About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Cabin #1, known as “Bear Ridge View”, is located on 64 privately-owned acres atop Mine Mountain, which is approximately five minutes from the entrance to Pisgah Forest. The cabin was recently renovated and contains two bedrooms (1 King & 1 Queen), 2 baths, and a modern kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. It also features generous outside decks with an outdoor eating area, wireless internet, Direct TV, a DVD player and library, a washer and dryer, and a gas grill. Guests can enjoy the solitude of the area while rocking on the newly constructed covered back porch. This porch, which overlooks Pisgah Forest, features ample seating for large groups, as well as a ceiling fan and variable lighting to guarantee year-round comfort. Bear Ridge View, with its knotty-pine paneling and charming décor featuring a mix of unique antiques and newer pieces, is an ideal cabin for couples or small families.

The efficiency cabin, known as the “Moonshine Shack”, is located adjacent to this cabin and features one large main room, including a kitchenette and sleeping area, as well as one bath and a covered porch. This cabin got its name due to the fact that it was the site of a moonshine operation run by the prior owner. The Moonshine Shack can be used to provide additional sleeping quarters for either cabin, or by a group of bikers, hikers, or others that simply want a place to store their gear and sleep after a day of exploring the beauty of the Pisgah Forest and surrounding area.

Please see the link to our blog for more information on the property and surrounding area.

Why Lisa Sykes chose Smoky Mountains

We chose to purchase rental property in the Brevard area due to its proximity to the beautiful scenery, wildlife, outdoor activities (i.e., hiking, fly-fishing, rock climbing, and bike riding, etc.) available in the hundreds of acres of state and national forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition, Brevard is a charming Appalachian town that offers a thriving music and arts community, as well as fantastic shopping and dining.

What makes this cabin unique

While a mere 5 minute drive to wonderful downtown Brevard area, visitors to this cabin will enjoy a private, secluded haven complete with astonishing views, a beautiful setting atop Mine Mountain, and the potential to see a large variety of the wildlife indigenous to this region (including the unusual white squirrels Brevard is known for).

What an incredibly delightful place! The very private location makes guests feel like they are living alone on that beautiful mountain. And yet, less than 3 miles down the mountain you are back to civilization. The furnishings are tastefully unique, with a rustic touch and gorgeous antiques. Being there was like staying at the home of a friend who was temporarily away. Our two grandchildren loved the Moonshine Shack and we all loved the serenity and view from the deck. With nearby Sliding Rock and amazing hiking trails, there is so much to do--if that's what you like. We grandparents spent our time on the covered deck in the very comfortable furniture, reading and doing needlework, while our elderly dog slept at our feet. How could it be better? P.S. The excellent and accurate photos cannot capture the warm atmosphere and beauty of the place. We plan to return next summer.

Perfect spot for getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Bear Ridge and Moonshine Cabins were perfect and the amenities included were as ideal as the location. The two bedroom/two bath Bear Ridge Cabin was beautiful inside and the wrap around porch plus two huge decks allowed us to enjoy the peaceful quiet of the deep, mountainside woods. Our 15 yr old thoroughly enjoyed having the adjacent Moonshine Cabin as his own getaway from Mom & Dad and little brother. The location was at once secluded and remote while also mere minutes from groceries, ice cream, and the Pisgah National Forest entrance. During our week-long stay we managed several waterfall hikes, whitewater rafting (NOC-French Broad), fly fishing (Davidson River Outfitters), zip lining (The Gorge), a visit to the Biltmore Estate, and some great meals in Asheville and Brevard while also carving out crucial time to just sit on the deck and listen to the wisdom of the breeze in the trees. These are well-maintained vacation properties perfect for family or small group mountain getaways. We will indeed come back for more.

All around great experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Beer Ridge cabin. The directions and working with the owners was great. Our dogs loved the freedom of checking out the property and we enjoyed the quiet. The place was perfect for us and for our friends with two younger kids. The fire place is great and really warmed us up when the weather was in the teen's! Home has everything you need to enjoy your quiet vacation in nature and close enough to get anything you need from the grocery. Anyone who likes to hike, bike or poke around town and have a great meal Brevard and this cabin is a great choice. There is even a bike wash area. Can't wait to come back again.

Heavenly Hospitality

850 feet above rural SR 280~Asheville Highway on secluded Mine Mountain, this Bear Ridge Cabin retreat is a perfect place for rest, relaxation, renewal, rejuvenation, and recreation. Beauty and comfort in a rustic yet elegant home was our stay courtesy of Lisa and Clay Sykes, a hosting couple extraordinaire! They captured our hearts and our love for North Carolina and its mountain magic. We hope to return to Bear Ridge Cabin again and again to keep the love going and flowing. It doesn’t get much better than this! Cheers and blessings, y’all!

Great private getaway with the dogs

  • 5 of 5

Amazing home in a secluded location just minutes from the Pisgah National Forest and downtown Brevard. Very quiet and private...we were able to just let the dogs out with no fear of them bothering anybody else. We will definitely stay there again, added to my favorites list!
