Enjoy the charm of an old building while taking advantage of modern green technology. Water is heated with solar panels on the roof, all permanent light fixtures are CFL, most materials were manufactured within 500 miles of Asheville, and paint and stains are all Low VOC resulting in very high indoor air quality. The beautiful hardwood floors are original.

Great downtown location

  • 4 of 5

Two couples shared this condo for a long weekend, Thursday through Sunday. The location could not have been better! We stayed in the Oddfellow Suite on the 3rd floor above the Altamont Theater. We loved the high ceilings and the original pine floors. One bedroom has a king bed with adjoining bath, and 2 windows overlooking Church Street. There was some noise from the street and from the theater but it was still worth it to be downtown, walking distance to music venues, restaurants, shops, galleries. The other bedroom is an interior room with no windows, a queen bed, and a bathroom just a few steps down the hallway. The queen room was somewhat cramped. Neither bedroom had a dresser for clothing storage although there were small closets in both bedrooms. In the queen room, there was no hanging bar or shelves in the closet, so it was basically useless except for storing an extra comforter and blanket on the floor. Instead, there was a rolling rack in the room, which took up valuable space and made it challenging to navigate around the end of the bed. The couple who stayed in the queen room reported quite a lot of noise from the adjoining condo, but that was only on the last night we stayed there. The curtains in the king room were single panels on each window, so difficult to open to let in light, and on one window, they were hung with a tension rod that fell each time we tried to pull open the curtain.

The kitchen is small, but we didn't intend to do much cooking. Pots and pans looked ample; however, there were only 2 wine glasses, 4 coffee cups, and 3 plates/bowls in the cabinet so we were forced to wash those items after each use since there were 4 of us in the unit. Also the dishwasher may have been newly installed, but it was not anchored, and tilted forward whenever it was opened. (We reported that to the owners.) We enjoyed the Keurig coffee maker, and also appreciated the option to pre-order a cheese/fruit tray and sampler of local beers that were provided upon our arrival.

There was lots of natural light in the living room; however no curtains or blinds on those windows. Comfortable living room and good size TV.

There were plentiful towels provided, & they were nice quality...not standard hotel fare. We loved being able to park our cars (recommend you get the parking passes) & walk all over downtown Asheville. Would not hesitate to stay here again...especially if they fix the dishwasher and the closet in the queen room & restock the kitchen.

Great Find in Great Location in Downtown Ashville

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in a 2-bedroom condo above the Altamont Theatre in downtown Asheville. The location was outstanding and enabled us to park our car upon arrival and never have to get into the car again until we were ready to leave.

The 2-bedroom unit we stayed in was very nice. It had a nice sitting area that merged with the dining room. There was more than enough room for 4 people. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the master bedroom had an adjoining bathroom. The 2nd bedroom had a private bathroom just down the hall.

The kitchen was adequate and well furnished. We brought some additional kitchen items along just in case they were needed.

The Altamont Theatre has frequent entertainment that usually ends no later than 11PM. If you are out on the town in the evening, this is no issue at all. If you plan on going to be early, you may want to consider staying somewhere else. Also, on Sunday mornings, the Theatre is used by a church which has singing. The good news is that the church doesn't meet early. Being above the Theatre was no issue at all for our crowd.

I would highly recommend the units at the Altamont if you are planning a trip to Asheville and want to stay downtown in something other than a B&B or Hotel. The rates are very good and the fact that you have a living room, dining room, and kitchen that can be shared by 2 couples makes it almost feel like home and much more comfortable than a hotel.

GREAT PLACE!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I came to Asheville and wanted to be downtown. This unit is awesome. The beautiful hardwood floors, high ceilings, and beautiful view of the mountains and church steeple was icing on the cake. My family is recovering from a horrible tragedy so the view of the steeple was comforting. We had no idea we were 2 blocks from the Orange Peel featuring my daughter's favorite band! The food and music options are endless. The Landlord was available and check in was a snap. I liked the late 60's to 70's decor. It was kind of retro. The only part of the 70's I would like to forget is synthetic fabrics. My only suggestion to the unit is get rid of the polyester rugs and comforters and go cotton. Its an easy fix.

Church Street Condo

  • 4 of 5

I give the location of this condo an A+. Church Street is a side street so it isn't subjected to some of the street noise of busier areas -- yet it is a short block away from all the action. The bed in the master bedroom was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on.

The condo itself is furnished sparely -- as depicted in the photos. It would be helpful to have a toaster, tea kettle, and alarm clock. The unit was quiet but when people staying below us were talking I realized how paper thin the walls were. Luckily this unit is on the top floor so we did not hear footsteps above.

Renters might also want to know that the secondary bedroom has no windows.

Owner's Response: We want to make one correction. The walls are actually quite well insulated for sound with sound reflecting sheet rock and insulation inside the walls. Sound is traveling between the floors. This building was constructed in 1896 and we chose the leave the beautiful original hardwood floors exposed, but that allows sound to travel through the floors because of the way it was built. We are considering covering the floors to reduce the noise transmission between floors.

Moogfest 2010

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the condo for Moogfest. Everything was as pictured in the photos. Owner was very courteous and prompt and answered all questions in a timely manner; he was very easy to deal with.

The condo is in a very central part of town, very easy to walk to all locations. We parked our car and didn't drive the entire weekend.

Furniture and decorations were very comfortable and kitchen was comfortably stocked. It was an extra bonus to have 2 BA along with the 2 BR. Most places only had one.

Perfect for one or two couples.
