About Anne Newhouse

Visits here are always rejuvenating for everyone! The cool mountain forests, nearby Mirror Lake, the ever-present sound of the nearby waterfall, and the vast entertainment opportunities make for an ideal relaxing vacation. We love including family and friends for a step back to an easier life-style. Living in Atlanta we are only 2 hours away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Just a few days here allows for a great attitude adjustment in our hectic city lives!

Anne Newhouse purchased this cottage in 1972

Why Anne Newhouse chose Mirror Lake

Our family has owned Trail's Inn for 40 years! Originally purchased by my Dad to escape the summer heat of Florida, we have had the opportunities to create so many family memories through the years.

What makes this cottage unique

Highlands has so many different hiking trails that we try a different one on each visit. With the shops, restaurants, and art galleries so nearby, there is always something to do. However, we often find that just sitting in the sun room or by the fire reading away the afternoon is the best alternative!

Beautiful mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have been staying at Trail's Inn for almost a decade now, and it gets better every year. It is incredibly clean, comfortable, and very thoughtfully appointed~ no detail has been left untended. It is also conveniently located and is a very short drive (or lovely walk) to the Bascom and downtown. It feels like you are in a secluded mountain hideaway, yet the many charms of Highlands are within easy reach. The owners do a beautiful job of maintaining the home and are exceptionally welcoming and helpful, including keeping a binder filled with wonderful details about hiking, food, and activity options in and around Highlands. They have thought of everything to make a stay here as comfortable and relaxing as possible and you feel it from the moment you walk through the door.

The open interior with vaulted ceiling, the exceptionally equipped kitchen, the sunroom and deck with mountain views, comfortable beds, modern tiled baths, and all so close to town. The gracious hosts have thought of those special and welcoming details to make our visit complete and comfortable. We can't wait to return!

Mountain haven in the city

  • 5 of 5

What a special place to enjoy the stresses of life ! We have stayed in Cashiers, Sapphire and everywhere in between . This is our first visit staying so close to town and we loved it ! The house was perfect for us and exceeded our expectations for being able to enjoy Highlands without driving 30 minutes on hazardous roads..... We felt like locals and tried to enjoy all the local restaurants. I want to stay a month next year !

This cottage is in a perfect setting for a peaceful mountain experience. The home is beautifully appointed, comfortable and spacious. The Newhouse's have thought of everything to make Trail's Inn feel like home. The grounds are gorgeous with hosta's and hydrangeas. We enjoyed every minute of our two weeks at Trail's Inn and plan to return.

Very cozy and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We had such a nice stay at Trail's Inn. Great location close to town and great restaurants. But with a secluded, private feeling. The area is great for walking and exploring.

The owners provided everything needed to make our stay so easy and pleasant.

We hope to return again soon!
