'Trillium' at RIVERWALK...Private, Cozy AND Immaculate! Spend a weekend or a week in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Great location for every season of the year!
Each of our cabins, Trillium & Morning Glory, provide a large, private, 6-person hot tub just outside the door. Sit in one of the front porch rockers to enjoy the view of the Cane River and the horses in the pasture along the rivers border. At night, look up and be amazed by the abundant number of stars in the sky like you've never seen before.
What would a mountain cabin be without the scent and warmth of a wood burning fireplace? Each of our cabins has a wood burning fireplace. We provide free and unlimited wood for our guests so you can enjoy cozy fires all day and all night, if you'd like.
If you demand comfort and ease while away from home, you'll find it here! Each kitchen is equipped as if it were our own for year round use. We also provide a starter supply of coffee, tea, hot cocoa and related supplies (sweetners & creamer) so you can arrive late, if necessary, and without feeling pressure to immediately run out for supplies. Tissue & toilet paper, paper towels, bath soap, dish soap, laundry soap, iron, blow dryer...it's all there. If you need something out of the ordinary, let us know. Chances are we can make it available. Once you check in we want you to sit back and relax.
Comfort, we demand it and so should you! Every guest will rest well in our beds. Our mattresses are all Simmons Beautyrest and guests continue to give our beds the highest marks. Each cabin sleeps up to 6 guests. The master bedroom has a queen bed while the loft bedroom upstairs provides guests the option of either 2 twin beds or a king. Simply specify your preference when booking the reservation. Each of the 2-floors has a full size bathroom. The sleeper sofa in the living area will sleep 2 additional guests. A porta crib is available upon request.
Wireless internet, telephone with unlimited long distance and the best cable package Direct TV has to offer is all included with our cabins.
Get out and see the surrounding area or stay on the property for your entire vacation (which is what many repeat guests enjoy doing). All the property surrounding our cabins is family owned and available for exploration by our guests. The neighboring barn and horse riding arena are owned by Laura's parents, Paul & Judi Ewing (the original Riverwalk cabin owners). For a small fee, guests may now book time with Judi and her horses. Kids especially get a kick out of learning how to care for and groom a horse.
Two private, family owned, riverside parks are available for guest use as well. Between these two parks guests can enjoy river tubing, a youth zip line, built-in swimming pool, fabulous trout fishing, a LARGE fire pit and a covered picnic pavilion with grill. Did I mention how fabulous our parks are for outdoor events? Weddings, family reunions, birthdays??? Yes, FABULOUS!!
2-wheel drive vehicles are usually adequate to get to and from the cabins to the state road. If you have any difficulty whatsoever, we live just around the corner and are available to help you 24/7.

About Laura Watrous
I'm Laura Watrous. My husband and partner, Brett Watrous, are the owners of the two luxury vacation cabins that make up Riverwalk Vacation Rentals. We love our life in the mountains and find great joy sharing our special piece of the world with guests. Our cabins were originally designed with the kind of comfort and luxury we strive for when we vacation.
Laura Watrous purchased this Cabin in 2006
Why Laura Watrous chose Pensacola
The saying goes: 'I wasn't born in Burnsville but I got here as quickly as I could' The climate is perfect with four different seasons: Beautiful cool Summers, colorful Falls, relatively mild Winters, and fresh colorful Springs. Trillium is in a perfect location to make the most of why a Blue Ridge Mountain vacation is great any time of the year.
What makes this Cabin unique
Trillium cabin is private yet convenient to features not available anywhere else. This cabin sits just above the Cane River. The view from the front porch is of the river as well as of the horse pasture which borders the river. Guests of Riverwalk also have access to two privately owned riverside parks which cater to our guests. One with pool & playground, the other with picnic pavilion, river tubes, large fire pit and youth zip line. There are 200+ acres of hiking and exploring right on the Riverwalk property. Neighboring farm with people friendly horses, donkeys and a goat. Farm owner offers horse 'time' for a small fee. Riverwalk is close to Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Mitchell and The Pisgah National Forest (pedestrian, bike, equestrian trails).

Loved our stay as usual
As always enjoyed very much even though stay was shortened due to a personnal matter. Cabin is very cozy and quite. The owner is the most accommodating in the world. Firewood was easily ignitable with left over newspaper even though fire starter was supplied. If you want a week-end get away this is gold.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review, as well as having become a "loyal lodger" :-) Looking forward to your return! Laura
Let's just say that it was not our cup of tea.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review on VRBO, as well as on Google. I apologize if there is anything we didn't address that (within our control) we could have done better to improve your stay. I wish you much success the next time you are in search of lodging in having all of your expectations met. Laura
perfect down to the last detail
this is an amazing rental. as soon as you walk in you can feel how much love and attention is put into this cabin. the cabin is so well stocked with little things you wouldnt even think to pack. everything was high quality and clean and comfortable. the location was beautiful right on the river. we had some issues during our travels to the cabin and Laura was easy to contact and quick to help us. we would definitely recommend this cabin.
Lovely, peaceful and immaculate cabin
We spent a very pleasant week in this clean, airy, comfortable cabin. The set-up was comfortable and quite convenient: a master bedroom downstairs and, in our case, room in the loft for two twin beds for our kids. Separate bathrooms helped preserve everyone's sanity. The quality of the linens, towels, etc. was first-rate--the bed in the master bedroom was soooooo comfortable. The cabin was spotless and comfy, with an overstuffed couch, plenty of firewood (I'm slightly embarrassed to say we used it all! we kept the fire burning all week), and everything necessary in the kitchen. A few small issues--it was difficult to get in touch with the owner, sometimes requiring 2 or 3 emails before receiving an answer; the towels for the hot tub are running a bit threadbare, and towels had to be washed each day, as there were not enough for a family of four otherwise; some of the lights were burned out (such as the one next to the bed) and there were no replacement bulbs that we could find; the laundry detergent was strongly scented (one of us has a fragrance allergy, which we forgot to mention in advance, our mistake); one of the doors to the porch was non-functional; the gorgeous location and privacy are somewhat marred by the presence of private homes along the creek, just a stone's throw away--traffic and dogs were at times quite loud, and the homes had a clear view of the hot-tub, so not really private, and these homes are not mentioned in the listing; and twice we were disturbed by folks coming to "fix the hot-tub" who were clearly at the wrong cabin. Overall, however, we were very happy and found everything delightful--we spent many happy hours watching the fire burn down and relaxing in the hot tub, and it was a great comfort to be able to relax in such a thoughtfully decorated and spotlessly clean cabin. The owner's mother was also kind enough to introduce our kiddos to the horses--which was the highlight of our trip! A huge thank you to her for her generosity, which was very much appreciated. The location of the cabin, down an enormously windy road, also contributed greatly to its charm and helped us feel like we were 'getting away from it all.' Downtown Burnsville is cute, with a good bookstore and Snap Dragon, a wonderful gastropub, plus an old-timey movie theater. (About 45 minutes to drive to Asheville, though.) We'd highly recommend this to anyone seeking some quiet R&R or family time--really restful, peaceful, and comfortable! Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. For potential guests reading this review, I would like to clarify some of the less than pleasant experiences noted by this reporting guest.
(1) As an owner with an excellent reputation for responding quickly, review of the history of email communications with this guest shows nowhere any significant delay in my response to emails...
(2) This is a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom cabin. 8 bath towels, 8 hand towels and 8 washcloths (not to mention 5 bath size hot tub towels) are provided to each and every guest.
(3) While replacement light bulbs are not out and accessible to guests, I live only 3 minutes away and will respond quickly to any inconvenience a guest may experience...
(4) Including any allergy sensitivities.
(5) Nowhere in our VRBO-HomeAway listing do we lay claim to Trillium being super secluded. Yes, there are other homes on the opposite bank of the river. However, these are also vacation homes and seldom do guests of Trillium see anyone.
If you are a potential guest considering Trillium (any other home I oversee, or any other vacation home for that matter) as a lodging option, I encourage you to ask questions important in making your lodging choice prior to booking. Laura
Morning Glory indeed
We were switched to Morning Glory and was very pleasantly surprised of the secluded atmosphere. We enjoyed our stay and would even consider returning when it was warmer out. The host was very helpful with any questions we had. This cabin is all set up perfectly for two couples.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate ALL feedback provided by visiting guests as it helps us to know what we're already doing right, and what we need to work on to improve. Looking forward to hearing from you again as you consider the possibility of returning in the summer.
Perfect family getaway
We loved the location, the cabin was clean and well appointed. We loved being by the river, the open fields to run and play, the horses, the meadows. We enjoyed evenings under the stars in the hot tub, smores on the fire. Everything was provided and we felt completely taken care of! Would definitely return!
Trillium Cabin Google Maps or smartphone GPS destination address = State Rd 1112, Burnsville, NC “State Rd 1112, Burnsville, NC” is also known as “Toodies Creek Rd”, then: ? From 197 S / Pensacola Rd, turn right on “Toodies Creek Rd”, cross over bridge. Continue on “Toodies Creek Rd” by turning left on the other side of the bridge. Travel approximately ¾ mile up “Toodies Creek Rd” to “Ray Farm Rd”, turn left (be carefully looking for the street sign as it is visible but the actual street is not. “Ray Farm Rd” dips down so you cannot see the street until you turn onto it). Take “Ray Farm Rd” until you see the group of mailboxes to the left…continue straight entering “Sledrunner Rd”. Follow Sledrunner around the horse pasture, Trillium is 2nd cabin on the right.
