Maine Oceanfront Home -- Year-Round Rental!

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-11)

Aberdeen is an elegant oceanfront home built in the style of coastal New England craftsman cottages. It greets the morning sunrise with huge windows and airy interiors and faces east for spectacular sunrise views. It sits on the eastern side of Orr's Island and enjoys panoramic open-ocean views, cooling sea breezes and the sounds of an enthusiastic surf hitting the rocks--all delights to the senses! Built in the image of an old coastal-Maine cottage, it is a large house with all the modern amenities, privacy and a spacious interior. Complete down to the inglenook and wood-burning stove in the living room, it will take you back to the glories of the turn of the century while happily bypassing the inconveniences of that time. It has four bedrooms, plus a sleeping loft, two bathrooms, a laundry room with washer and dryer, a kitchen that overlooks the dining room, a living room, an entertainment room/office, a large front deck, and an enclosed porch. The entertainment room has a flat screen cable TV, DVD player, leather armchair, and there is wireless internet. Outside is a spacious deck, lawn and gardens, an outdoor shower, and a small stream down to the ocean. A beautiful wide swath of grass leads you to the rock-bound shoreline complete with ledges, a beach and tide pools. Kayaks can be launched from the beach, and kids can find sea glass and shells. The land is a total of 13 acres. Is available for rental year-round. For views, space, comfort, elegance and convenience, you can't beat Aberdeen. It is located 20 minutes from Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College, grocery stores, gas stations, shops, and 30 minutes from Freeport where you can shop at outlet stores and L.L. Bean.

About Natalie Shiras

I am a retired pastor of Church on the Hill (United Church of Christ) in Lenox, MA and I have two grown children. My grandfather bought this property in 1957 and my parents built this home in 1996 for their retirement. I inherited the property in 2010.

Why Natalie Shiras chose Portland & Casco Bay

This is a spectacular property on a quiet island. The home is winterized for a great vacation all year long. There are pathways and 13 acres (total) of wooded and shoreline property, board games, HD TV, stereo, and DVD player. The side yard has an enclosed dog-run. First floor includes a large kitchen and dining room; large living room; wood stove; entertainment room/office; a large porch with ocean views, a mudroom, and an enclosed porch. Full bath on first floor with shower. There is a large shed with wood storage and an outdoor shower. Second floor includes master bedroom with queen (oceanview); bedroom with full-sized bed (oceanview); bedroom with twin bed (oceanview); and a bedroom with twin bed (and a trundle bed underneath that slides out) with wooded view; and a full bathroom. The sleeping loft on the third floor has two twin beds and space for two mattresses (wooded and ocean views).

What makes this house unique

The ocean, fresh seafood, fresh lobster, beautiful sunrise views of the water. Home includes all kitchen and cooking utensils, including lobster picks, pot, plates, and aprons for eating lobster. The house is a carpenter's dream. All wood interior in the style of a New England craftsman cottage, with all modern conveniences. The property is spectacular, especially the one acre shore property. It is rocky, but yields to a small pebbly beach at low tide. 180 degree views of the open ocean from the shore. Shore access is a private path on our property, which is very close to the ocean. You can hear the ocean with the windows open from every room in the house.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a magical visit we have had on Orr's Island at your home Aberdeen! The privacy and the views were gorgeous, but the sweetness and harmony of the house allowed us to deeply relax and restore. Thank you, thank you.

There are perennial gardens, 13 wooded and oceanfront acres for nature walks, a private beach at low tide, a long path along the ocean, a large bench at the beach, and the property goes all the way to the water. There is also an outdoor shower that is fun to use during the summer and it makes it easy to rinse off after a swim in the ocean.

A Lovely and Cozy Retreat

  • 3 of 5

The finely made house is set in a glorious, private spot overlooking Casco Bay.

It has all of the amenities of home; classy and comfortable.

The rooms are spacious and the views are dreamy through tall thin pines that allow you to see the ever changing tide and light on the water.

Walking on the rocky shore is a lot of fun and the drives nearby offer classic views of the Maine coast. CHARMING!!

Don't let the word get out!

We had a wonderful weekend stay at Aberdeen that started out with a Nor'easter and 50 MPH winds, but woke to an amazing sunrise the next morning. The house flows perfectly and was cozy and comfortable for 6 adults. Enjoy this secluded gem; it's a perfect blend of style and comfort on the mid-coast!

Splendid home by the sea!

  • 5 of 5

The expansive front deck of this wonderfully spacious home may well be the most relaxing place on earth! The location offers great privacy and marvelous ocean views. Three generations of our family (7 in number) were very comfortably accommodated on the first two floors. This property bears no resemblance to a 'rental house'. Rather...... it's a special, very well equipped property that provides the warmth and comfort of an exceptionally tasteful home. Over the years, we've rented numerous oceanfront homes, none finer than Aberdeen.
