We just recently returned from a 9 day trip to RMNP and spent the first 6 nights at Greenbrook while we day hiked all over the east side of the park. I had debated staying in Estes Park, but after leaving our quiet little spot in Allenspark and driving through the crowded Estes Park streets, I'm so GLAD we stayed at Greenbrook!!! We drove the 10 minutes to the Wild Basin area for several hikes there (I HIGHLY recommend the Lion Lake trail) and also took at short stroll on the Mt. St. Vrain trail right down the road (and up another dirt one) from Allenspark.
One night my husband and I left our teenagers to fend for themselves and splurged on dinner at The Fawn Brook Inn, practically across the street from the cabin. The food and atmosphere was superb but the hummingbirds buzzing throughout the flowers in the front made the evening even more unique. We felt like we were in some kind of enchanted garden. 😉
Our daughter stayed in the second bedroom and our 14yr old took the loft where he had PLENTY of room. Two middle school aged kids could easily sleep in that space....or even 3 grade school kids (as long as one didn't roll around a lot). While he couldn't stand up completely to change clothes, he had plenty of space to stretch out. The other two bedrooms were private and quiet - as was the whole cabin. We could catch glimpses of other homes through the trees but still felt completely alone in the woods with a babbling brook nearby.
The drive into Estes Park and the Beaver Meadows entrance took about 20-30 minutes. If you're traveling in the summer I would recommend early starts to those more popular trails. Parking is usually full by 9am, but by driving early in the morning we not only avoided traffic on the roads, but we were also treated to bear, moose and multiple elk sightings.
Greenbrook was clean, comfortable and stocked with all the necessities to cook a good meal after a day on the trails. A binder is provided with additional information about the area. I'm glad we were mindful of the instructions to not keep groceries in the car. One morning there were large bear prints outside and an overturned (but safety locked) garbage can. While I know it's a minor annoyance for people who live in Allenspark, for us it just added to our fabulous adventure!!
I would recommend this cabin to a friend and we would definitely stay here again!!!
We thought our destination was Rocky Mountain National Park, and that Greenbrook would be a nice place to stay. We found out our destination was Greenbrook, and RMNP was a nice side trip. The cabin is comfortable and beautiful, full of surprises and lovely furnishings. We spent a lot of time on the front porch watching the squirrels and birds play and the wind stirring the aspens and singing in the pines. There is also a pretty little creek that flows along beside the property which murmurs prettily. It was hard to say goodbye when it was time to go. p.s. We also recommend the riding stable in Allenspark.
We were looking for a quiet, comfortable, peaceful place to relax. We found it at Green Brook Cabin! We felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. The cabin is located in the quaint little town of Allenspark, but because of the way it is situated, and the surrounding vegitatation you have the feeling of being far away from the world. The furnishing are comfortable, the bed was as comforable as our bed at home. Even though this is a historic cabin, there is plenty of hot water for showers, adequate heating and lighting. There are fluffy towels, a great shower and plenty of firewood. The cabin is stocked with many games to play, puzzels to put together, and books to read. We were glad to have the washer and dryer, as we got caught in a rain/sleet storm one day while hiking, it was nice to have a way to clean up our muddy clothes. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals, so you don't have to eat out. There is also a gas grill if you want to cook out. We could have spent every day staying at the cabin just relaxing, but our goal was to hike as many trails in RMNP as we could. Of the 8 days we were at the cabin we hiked 6 days. The cabin is located very close to the Wild Basin area of the park with many nice trails to great waterfalls. We also took the beautiful 20 minute drive up to the north entrance of the park a couple of days to hike more trails. Our one visit into Estes Park made us so glad we decided to stay in Allenspark. Too much traffic, and too many tourists for our liking. If you are looking for a peaceful, tranquil, comfortable place to get away we strongly suggest Green Brook Cabin. There was only 2 of us, but there is also another bedroom as well as a loft. The loft would be a great place for kids to stay. If you are into birding this is also a great place to see many brids. There is a couple of local restaurants within walking distance that are very good. We found the people in town to be very friendly and helpful. The next time we visit RNMP we will definitley be staying a Green Brook Cabin. Mike and Michele were very helpful answereing all of our questions about the area and things to do. We had a wonderful adventure and made to some memories during our visit to this beautiful piece of heavan.
We've gone the past 7 years to Estespark Colorado and rented cabins everytime. This year we went 20 minutes south os Estes to allenspark. It was well worth the money for the short drive. Greenbrook is the size of a small house. Full kitchen, full bath, 2 bedrooms, loft, decent sized living room with real fireplace, grill in back, and covered front deck. Greenbrook is a real old log cabin. Small creek maybe a foot deep at the most, provided great sound for sleeping at night. Although you are right "in town" the trees and bushes in front of the cabin make you feel miles away. Maybe 4 cars a hour come down the road. You are less than a football field away from 2 great mom and pop resturants, a horse stable, the post office and a bar on rt. 7. Five minutes to the wildbasin lodge and rmnp entrance. 20 minutes to Estes, 25 to lyons. I can't say enough how happy were to find it. My kids actually called it home by the end of the week.
