About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, swimming pool

This is a fine home with a full size swimming pool that is located on a spectacular half mile avenue of antebellum huge live oak trees providing a unique peaceful cathedral shaded view. While this location is a destination in itself, it also provides easy access to Historic downtown Charleston (5 minutes), Folly Beach (10 minutes), Kiawah beach (15 minutes), James Island County Park (5 minutes).

The home and setting are so beautiful it was recently filmed by an LA production crew for use in a cable TV show! This quiet serene neighborhood is the hidden gem of Charleston as it loaded with huge oak trees with spainish moss and resurrection ferns, and it captures the sweet southeasterly breeze and sun sets off of the beautiful Stono River, 1/2 block away. A true lowcountry experience. Walk or bike the half mile to the Fine Arts Theater with four excellent restaurants, wine bar and club house. The municipal golf course and driving range is also just around the corner, as are picnic tables, playground and boat ramp on the intercoastal waterway.

The ambiance of lounging in the spacious front yard under the majestic oaks with a good book or glass of wine is unsurpassed. Artists come to paint or photograph the avenue in front of the house, but the real experience is just to sit and enjoy it with a friend. No reason to drive all over the place looking for Charleston beauty, it's in the front yard! The swimming pool (32' x 18' with brand new liner) and surrounding patio with pergola and shaded sitting area are so cool, calm and relaxing after a day of work or touring, it makes the Charleston summers a treat! Really, jog the neighborhood, bike with the kids and cool off in the pool !

The house is traditional style at 2400 sq ft and has been recently renovated. There are three bedrooms upstairs with two queen beds and one full bed and two full baths. And a fourth bedroom and full bath at the ground level entrance for easy access. The master bedroom is especially spacious with a large terrezo tile bathroom that has an open shower. Two of the bedrooms have large windows looking into the oak boughs covered with resurrection fern and birds galore, a perfect view when waking.

Downstairs there is the living room with a huge picture window looking out into the gorgeous front yard and

This is a beautiful home, very comfortable in an unbelievably pleasant setting, 5 minutes to downtown. This is one of the most beautiful place in the LowCountry I have seen in over 25 years, a "nice slice of life".

BUT. This is a quiet neighborhood and the rental is for families and professional couples and ladies groups only. NO wedding groups of any type or association. About Bert

I have lived in Charleston and the surrounding lowcountry for twenty years and have found the perfect spot, and am proud to provide to visitors to the beautiful LowCountry and Charleston area. I will gladly provide travel information and insights.

Bert purchased this house in 2010

Why Bert chose Riverland Terrace

A truly unique southern low country setting with HUGE live oaks making a 1/2 mile long magnificent cathedral of antebellum beauty. Literally every renter texts me "wow! this is a special place". This is a primary residence I happily rent to those who want to be a off the hard beaten path at the beach, but who want to be closer to downtown and who value relaxation. All linens, towels, utensils, basic condiments, several bikes, etc. are available for your use - no more hauling your home in your car to vacation! We do not accept ANY wedding related families or gatherings.

What makes this house unique

The setting is unique, and many say it is a "nice slice of life" . Looking out the front picture window into the huge live boughs as the spainish moss waves and the sunlight plays across the trunks, it is an active, dynamic view that is not often witnessed. Beautiful sunset views around the neighborhood as you walk under the oaks and enjoy the soft southeasterly breeze. After touring Charleston, then refreshing yourself in the swimming pool, you can walk or bike down the oak lane to the antique mall with fine arts theater and restaurants, or to the picnic tables and playground on the intercoastal waterway.

Lovely, peaceful stay in a quiet Southern neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, plus our daughter and her husband and two children (ages 8 and 9), had a delightful stay in this spacious home. The neighborhood is very quiet, and we respected that. Neighbors wave as you walk by.

The home is very comfortable, with lots of light coming in from the south (on the back of the house). We enjoyed elegant meals (especially breakfast in the morning sun) in the formal dining room.

There are three bedrooms upstair, one with an attached bathroom. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom off the hallway. They rooms are spacious and comfortable, with very nice cotton linens and soft towels. The fourth bedroom is downstairs.

One of the nice things was that the owner and other visitors leave some condiments, spices, coffee and tea for the next visitors. That is always a welcome surprise! You don't have to start from zero in the kitchen.

There were plenty of place settings, and plenty of pots and pans.

We had a problem with the internet when we arrived. Bert called the Internet Service Provider and they rectified the problem quickly. Thanks, Bert! And thanks for sharing your lovely home!

Nice house with great street view

  • 4 of 5

We stayed from august 3 to 8 2017. We loved about Charleston was its history, plantation and different beach. The house we stayed in was big enough for 8 people. Had everything in house that we need like paper supplies, condiments, bath towels and etc... The street view was amazing.. We did not use pool a lot as we found lot of mosquitos by pool side. Definitely can use pest control for that. Other than that it was good house and we enjoyed our stay in this house , great scenic oak street view , quiet and nice neighborhood..

Owner's Response: Thank you for your reservation, and taking care of the property so well. The location and setting is one of a kind and represents the best of the lowcountry. This year we have had especially heavy rainfall, way above normal and there are more mosquitoes in the early morning and at dusk than usual. However during the day in normal sunny swimming hours there have been no problems I or my neighbors have encountered. We will be more diligent about a non-chemical spraying of the area in the future. Thanks.

Owner's Response: Thank you! You were most tidy and respectful, and would love to have you visit again. Downtown is a short 7 minute drive, and the home an oasis from any traffic and hub bub.

Great house, lots of space for 2 families

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful tree lined street and really friendly neighbors. House has a lot of space to spread out. The kids loved the pool. Location to downtown was great, very close. Reason for 4 stars was wasp nest out by pool, right by door walking in and out of house. My husband decided to knock it down. Later saw caretaker who said they would've removed if was notified first.
