From our 4th Floor Penthouse look into the water or see endless Ocean views
Our floor plan is unique to Papakea - we removed walls to create an open, flowing space that combines our living room AND our Den giving you 30' of ocean view. Both rooms directly face the ocean and the island of Molokai. In addition we removed the standard sliding doors to the lanai replacing them with stacking sliders that open the living room double-wide to the lanai.
With the ocean only steps away, the waves breaking on our protective reef, Molokai just across the channel, the island of Lanai to the south and island palms swaying in the breeze you may choose not to leave our 4th floor lanai - Especially during Whale Watching Season!

Every room offers you superior comfort with an eclectic mix of modern and ethnic furnishings. Fresh ocean breezes and 8 ceiling fans keep you cool. 4 oversized air conditioners complete your comfort when needed.

The MAIN FLOOR BEDROOM suite has an additional separate entrance to the main floor bath. Cool mountain breezes flow through the shutters and an oversized fan spins above. The Chinese armoire houses a flat screen TV and DVD/CD player.

About Jeanne Rea
Our visits to Papakea started when our children were quite young. We have a shot of our daughter in a 'little grass skirt' by the pool for her 8th birthday - she's 42 now!! In 1985 we sailed our 45' Hardin sailboat from Seattle to Hawaii. We kept the boat in Honolulu for 2 years and flew back to cruise the islands during our kids' school breaks. Almost always sailing to Maui and Lanai - often anchoring at Black Rock just in front of the Sheraton at Kaanapali beach. Upon sailing back to Seattle we knew for sure we needed a Maui home. We considered several properties - Papakea always came out the winner! For many years now, we have spent close to 6 months every year here at our Papakea home. Tennis daily is our norm. Swimming in the ocean and long beach walks add to Jeanne's pleasure. A studio where she makes glass beads is so fulfilling too. The family home is in Seattle, but skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho and cruising the Northwest in the summers in Desolation Sound, BC complete our circle of favorite places and activities.
Jeanne Rea purchased this Condo in 2000
Why Jeanne Rea chose Honokowai
Papakea's unassuming low-rise profile and luscious, tropical landscaping, huge oceanfront exposure and the great Aloha spirit of the staff drew us and has kept us here. The unspoiled local feeling appeals far more to us than the overdeveloped hotel resorts. We first bought adjacent ground-floor units B105 and B106 in 1989, scheming to merge them together, but the allure of 'flat-out-awesome-on top of the ocean' views moved us to A building. Guess we never gave up the urge to move walls though - we opened wide the wall between the living room and front bedroom changing that room to a den and the front bath to the kitchen. We so love the results. We no longer live in a rectangle and our extended, curved loft changed the feeling of the entire space.
What makes this Condo unique
The ocean for swimming - even having had whales swim so close we could hear them while we were in the water, and coming upon the 'biggest turtle in the world' just last week plus tennis matches and league play everywhere are our favorite things. Watching Whales breech, tail slap and wave their fins goodbye as they escort the newborns north reminds this place is beyond special. All viewed from our lanai and den. The lighted tennis courts are a main benefit most smaller properties don't provide. The free activities of Yoga, Swimmercize, Golf putting tournament and Tennis round robins directed by a pro and the Mai Tai parties are always fun. With the new boardwalk and hotels and Duke's restaurant just south of us we love knowing we can get all our needs filled without even having to go 'as far' as Lahaina. So much to do, so little time ........ but, on the other hand just sitting on the lanai and viewing the wonders of our world is probably the best!

We had a great vacation staying in this condo. The view from the lanai and even in the condo was amazing! Furnishings were comfortable. If all you wanted to do on your vacation was relax, this is the perfect place to do so.
We're so glad you enjoyed your visit at our condo. Relaxing and being right on the ocean's edge are primary reasons for choosing our condo.
Because we have nearly 32' of large window views the inside is as great as being on the lanai. Both our living room and our den face the ocean directly and being only about 40' from the water plus with our 4th floor height there isn't much you will miss. Look deep into the water and see turtles up close to the sea wall or Whales, Sunsets, Rainbows, "Moonsets" (in the mornings" and the enormous cruise ships gliding by all lit up at night.
We hope you will choose Papakea A402 when you return to Maui.
Beautiful place, had everything we could possibly need. Highly recommend would book again. Loved it
Owners had everything in the condo we could possibly need. Ocean View to die for, great location. Quiet property close to everything we wanted to do. I would book this place again!
Linda, we're so pleased that you found everything to your liking. The quiet, relaxed atmosphere of Papakea's grounds along with our views of creatures in the water, miles and miles of ocean stretching between Molokai and Lanai and sunny Hawaiian skies of glorious blues, oranges and reds of sunsets and the bonus of rainbows when rain hangs out the channel are what we love to share with guests (and take endless photos for ourselves)
Well maintained and well situated unit contributed materially to a fantastic Maui holiday
Unit was clean and in excellent condition. Fourth floor ocean front location was beautiful. Unit configuration with extra ocean front "family room" was delightful. We like the Papakea location because it is within walkable distance to amenities (groceries, food, supplies, farmers market, etc.) as well as beaches. While Papakea itself doesn't have a sandy beach directly in front (it has a seawall), it is adjacent to the Ka'anapali beaches accessible within a 5 minute walk, and just enough removed from the higher density Ka'anapali area to feel relaxed. Owner was direct, pleasant, and very easy to deal with. There were no problems arranging the reservation. When we made our reservation the owner informed us that there was seawall renovation underway which was expected to finish before our visit. When the seawall work was inevitably delayed, the owner gave us clear up to date information, gave us the option to cancel, and a discount because of the unanticipated work during our stay. After email dialog with the owner, we kept our reservation, and found the situation exactly as described by the owner, and not an impediment at all to our vacation. I heartily recommend this unit to anyone, especially friends and family ... except when we want to come back and stay there again ... as we will.
Your comments are much appreciated as were your questions and follow-ups previous to your visit - I always strive to be sure guests are aware of what to expect both positive and negative before making the choice of booking our condo.
We share with our guests the same amenities in our condo as we personally enjoy during our time there.
Our reasons for choosing to own at Papakea Resort were the same that you pointed out - in particular the low density and relaxed atmosphere.
The grass area in front of the seawall allows for lounging on chaises immediately adjacent to the ocean (during the winter months one might get splashed).
From Spring through Fall the ocean swells are lower (or nearly non-existent in the Summer) and stairs at either end of our property allow access to the water for swimming and snorkeling.
We look forward to visits from you and friends in the future.
W O W
We recently had the chance to stay in this unit at Papakea and could not of asked for anything more. Not only was the unit beautiful and well maintained but the owner was an absolute pleasure to work with. We are already planning our next trip. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
Absolute perfect accommodations
The family stayed for a week at and found everthing as promised. The owner was very accomodating to our needs and provided all information to make the stay perfect. Jeanne has great taste as the furnishings and decorating were high quality and to be sure the recent renovations are of high standard. Our balcony opened to the ocean as we were absolute waterfront. No negatives with the decision to stay here.
The Perfect Maui Getaway
We had a fantastic vacation in this beautiful and unique condo. We opened the front door and went from room to room admiring the artwork from original blown glass to whimsical totem and mermaid. Each room has something to admire and amuse. The furnishings are extremely comfortable and the view breathtaking. We enjoyed snorkeling right out front between the reefs and almost daily turtle viewings. Shopping is convenient and there are many excellent dining experiences nearby. Thanks for sharing your perfect piece of paradise!
We're so glad you enjoyed your visit. We too, continue to find delight in our unique decor - so different from our mainland home.
You chose a good time for turtle viewing - they are around all year, but apparently summer brings them inside the reef more often. We've heard that Manta Rays favor this same season and are often seen inside our reef.
Mahalo for your kind words, it's rewarding to know that our goal to provide you a base for a wonderful vacation succeeded.
Jeanne and Larry
Papakea's low-rise buildings are situated on 11 acres of Oceanfront property with lush tropical flowers, enchanting Koi ponds and swaying palms. 2 Pools, 2 Hot Tubs, 2 Gazebos, 10 Gas BBQ grills, two 12 hole Putting Greens, 2 Lighted Tennis Courts, and 2 Shuffleboard courts. Lounges on the grass at the Seawall are favorites for sunning, whale watching and gathering for a glass of wine at sunset. Coral reefs right in front offer good snorkeling and create the feeling of having a protected salt water pool with a sandy bottom just for us. Find turtles just outside the reef,(sometimes inside) A several mile beach walk by sand or boardwalk takes you from Papakea all the way to the far end of Kaanapali passing great restaurants, great shopping at Whaler's Village or great swimming and snorkeling - take your pick or do it all!
