About Marta Neely

I discovered this wonderful house when I needed to retreat from life in the fast lane. Walking by the lake, hiking on the trails, and watching the morning come while drinking coffee on the deck filled me with joy and renewed my spirit. When I needed to return to city life, I just couldn't sell my dream home -- one day, I'll move back for good. I always enjoyed sharing my home with friends and neighbors, so making it a vacation cabin has been a pleasure.

Marta Neely purchased this house in 2005

Why Marta Neely chose Big Bear Lake

I had no intention of buying a cabin the day I came up to look at a few properties 'just for the heck of it.' This cabin was the first one I saw -- when we arrived at the next property, I told the realtor, 'Stop! I want that one I just looked at!' The amazing views and the inviting rustic interior were exactly what I wanted, even though I didn't know it until I walked through the front door and saw the mountain views through the windows!

What makes this house unique

Luxury and comfort combined with rustic charm make this a wonderful place to enjoy life, but the magnificent views from huge decks are what truly makes this chalet unique!

Stargazers will be thrilled with the billions of stars visible in the night sky! When summer changes to fall, enjoy the bright colors of changing leaves. The invigorating cool, crisp air is ideal for hiking, biking, and brisk walks along the lake. In wintertime, bundle up for downhill/ cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding/ tubing down the breathtaking Alpine Slide! Bring the kids for the outdoor experience of a lifetime! Don't miss the excitement in the downtown Village -- take a ride in a horse drawn carriage, drink hot chocolate as the huge Christmas tree lights up, and visit shops and restaurants filled with Christmas cheer! Alas, when winter ends, spring awakens with bursting blooms and chirping birds. Dust off the hiking boots, unpack the golf clubs and fishing gear, and don't forget the kites and Frisbee -- cool, breezy days and fresh mountain air will lift your spirits as a glorious new season arrives in Southern California's alpine paradise -- sunny Big Bear Lake!

What a view!!!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Big Bear Lake with another couple. We chose Blue Spruce Chalet mainly because of the big decks and views of Bear Mountain. When we arrived, we were surprised with how spacious and comfortable the interior is -- even a lot better than the photos on VRBO, with new furniture and rustic decor. The master bedroom has a king-size Sleep Number bed, so my girlfriend and I set the firmness levels individually. That bedroom and another one have large windows with mountain views. They also are by the door to the lower deck with the spa, which we soaked in at night and also during the warm afternoon, since that deck is in the shade. The dining room and living room also have large view windows. Still the extra large upper deck is the best feature, and we had an awesome time barbecuing and watching what turned out to be a nice sunset. Also enjoyed viewing the stars that night and having breakfast on the deck the next morning. We definitely want to come back for ski season and bring the rest of the family!

Owner's Response: I'm grateful for having guests that take advantage of all Blue Spruce Chalet has to offer! I plan to have new photographs taken as soon as possible to reflect all the new decor -- it truly is much nicer than in the current photos!

Bring you friends

  • 5 of 5

This is a very clean and well organized cabin. The cabin is in a quiet neighborhood with a great view of Bear Mountain (formerly goldmine). A good location to quickly access stores and trails. Bring friends to simply enjoy the company in a comfortable place.

Lovely view, great location but, property layout did not work well for two couples.

  • 2 of 5

Property layout included two bathroom on main floor and one for all three bedrooms to share on lower level. Had to cross through a bedroom to get to another bedroom then bathroom. The house was not very clean and there were no towels.

Owner's Response: Blue Spruce Chalet is a very special cabin, with possibly the largest decks in Big Bear Lake -- including one deck with a private jacuzzi -- magnificent views, beautiful wildlife art and other unique rustic decor, and so many other features. So many guests tell me what wonderful times they had with family and friends, and that my customer service added to their great experiences! It's difficult to understand why anyone would be unhappy because of not wanting to use the large master bathroom connected to two of the bedrooms! I had spent about 10 minutes speaking with her on the phone before she made the reservation. I explained the layout very clearly -- that the cabin has two floors and two bathrooms, so one of bathrooms is on the main floor with the living room, kitchen, dining room, and upper deck, and the large master bathroom is downstairs. I'm very sorry to hear that even though I spent so much time describing it to her, she misunderstood. That she walked 15 feet to the bathroom because she chose to sleep in the bedroom with awesome mountain views . . . well, what can I say? In addition, my hundreds of guests have always been pleased with how clean my cabin is -- I have a loyal husband and wife team that does an outstanding job, and I often inspect it just to make sure! I always tell guests to call me if there's anything at all I can do to make their vacation more enjoyable, or if they questions or concerns -- I'm available 24 hours a day. Our local motto is: "Another day in Paradise!" That's how I want everyone to feel!

Birthday celebration

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at Marta's wonderful chateau. The location was great, close to town and shops. The scenery was beautiful. Loved her two decks including a spa on lower deck. She could not have been nicer. Very accomadating and fair. Large great room and a nicely stocked kitchen. Would recommend.
