So close but yet soooo far!!!!
When you stay with us you will feel like you are far away from everything. But in reality everything you could possibly want to do is just around the corner.
We are close to everything Asheville has to offer—Biltmore House, hiking, biking, shopping, tubing, running, the arts....the list is endless. Eclectic and funky West Asheville is minutes away offering a great collection of eateries, galleries and shops. Downtown Asheville is just minutes beyond that with a dazzling array of shops, restaurants, galleries and arts events, all infused with that unique Asheville laid back vibe. Just around the corner is the River Arts District where you can spend a day exploring one of the most active and accessible communities of working artists in North Carolina. If you get tired gallery hopping, you will find many great options for food and drink to rest a spell and rub shoulders with friendly locals who will be happy to tell you about the best local breweries.
Once you have worn yourself out with all there is to do in and around Asheville, you come back to a comfortable cozy cottage that is designed with relaxation in mind. Just renovated from top to bottom, our cottage includes a huge kitchen with new appliances, granite countertops, a washer/dryer nook and plenty of room for group dining. The very large living room is fronted by a spacious sunroom that is perfect for your morning coffee or curling up with a good book. The back deck is private with a grill and beautiful view of the woods. If you are lucky you will see some of the wildlife we have on the property including deer, turkey and the occasional fox.
The Master suite comes with a queen size bed and a glorious, dual shower bathroom for a spa-like experience. Bedrooms two and three share a large, fully refurbished bathroom with tile floors and granite vanity. Bedroom two has a double bed and bedroom three has two twin beds providing a great variety of sleeping arrangements. Other features include a 50' High Definition TV in the living room, TV's in each bedroom and a fire pit out from for late night s'mores or sipping wine under the stars.
This is our family. My mother and I still live close to this cottage and the others have moved off. We all grew up in Asheville. I am a Builder/Contractor and my mother sales Real Estate.
We grew up on the property where this house is located. The kids that moved away would bring their families back and there were so many of us we needed room to stay. This cottage was the 'overflow' house. As their families got older the stays were shorter. We decided to share our lovely location here on VRBO.
Location and privacy just scratch the surface as to why you should stay here. No other place can offer the feeling of privacy and escape when in all actuality you are minutes from everything. Downtown is 4.5 miles away. Fantastic West Asheville is 1 mile away. The Biltmore House is 6 miles away. Bent Creek for hiking, biking and swimming is also 6 miles. We have added all we could think of to make your stay comfortable and refreshing. We are on 9 acres most of which are wooded. The private back deck looks off into the woods and makes for a wonderful place to grill, eat, sip coffee, chat or pretty much anything.

Penley Cottage is a perfect property! The entire house is comfortably appointed which makes for a truly enjoyable respite away from it all. Our family had a blast! We took in the Biltmore, downtown Asheville, Black Mountain, Pisgah brewery, and Montreat. We finished off our visit with an Easter brunch at the exquisite Grove Park Inn. After a while, we felt like we were going home as we returned to Penley cottage. The bedrooms, baths, kitchen, sunroom, living area, dining area, and grilling deck are as lovely and well done as anyone could expect. Michael, the owner, was most willing to make our stay the most pleasant experience--even down to providing the booster seat for our grandson. Had the weather cooperated, the firewood he supplied would have been consumed with a vengence in the firepit located in the large front yard. The serenity of the woods in the back is a great plus. We have used VRBO many times in the past, and this was
certainly one of our most pleasant times!

Comfy and sweet
I rented this home for my sisters bachelorette weekend. Their 8 girls and it couldn't have been more perfect. We all slept well and there was plenty of room in the bathrooms for us to get ready together. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and using the jacuzzi. Everyone was very comfortable and impressed with the home. It made for a perfect weekend. The owner was also wonderful, he stopped by to show us a few things and make sure we had what we needed. My family would love to return to Asheville for a family vacation and we hope to rent the home again.
This house was a great choice and comfortable for several people to stay and experience Asheville. It has a very private feel. The deck is probably the highlight with lots of room, peaceful setting and the nice hot tub. I would definitely stay here again.
My wife and I were super pleased with our stay! Micheal was very easy to work with and the property is well cared for. We were blown away with the attention to detail! The hot tub was probably the cleanest I've seen (rental or private) and they even had lumber ready in the firepit for our stay. We would love to stay here again in the future, and would recommend this rental to anyone!
We came in for a wedding, and this cottage was perfect for our family of four. The owners had it well stocked with all the important amenities and were very friendly. I'd recommend, and would book again.
We just finished a girls weekend in Asheville and had the best time. Michael's home was perfect for the 4 of us: plenty of space, comfortable rooms, nicely equipped kitchen, updated bathrooms and great perks of the hot tub and fire pit. We loved the location- it was an easy 10 minutes from downtown- but felt worlds away. It was so great to get away from the hustle and feel like we were returning to a retreat. Personally, I loved waking up to the sound of nature each morning! I highly recommend Michael's home and Michael himself was a great host. He was very attentive, communicable and helpful.
Can't wait to come back!
