This vacation house had everything we needed to have relaxed, fun getaway. Kitchen well stocked with dishes, pans, and cooking utensils. Appreciated it had such a private setting and was right on the water.

House is large and spacious. Pool table was popular with the kids. Also the porch swing.

Cooking was somewhat difficult as the sharp knives were not at all sharp and the pots and pans were too old and even unhealthy to cook out of. The dish washer worked fine; so did the washer and dryer. Both lakes were too warm for swimming and murky, especially the smaller one. Lake Lure was the cleaner of the two but the cottage is not on it, as I was told. Swimming was not good as the water was not refreshing; it was too warm. I had specifically asked for a mountain lake on the cool and clean side for swimming. I was disappointed.

Owner's Response: I guess the thank you note that was left the kitchen counter Saying how much you enjoyed your stay was from another family member. I didn't expect to get a 2 star review... Sorry you were disappointed with the Lake Lure and Bald Mountain Lake swimming. We do offer 3 great pools in the resort in the summer if you find the lake water is not your thing. I think you may have had a conversation with another property owner about location on Lake Lure. My advertising description is quite specific that I am on Bald Mountain Lake and would not have told you my house was on Lake Lure. The Resort where my house is located is on Lake Lure. I will take inventory of my pots and pans and correct the knife and pot issue. I cleaned the house myself the week prior to your arrival just to make sure the house was perfect for you , there are lots of pots and pans and at least 6 good frying pans out of the 9 there, but I guess the inventory is too large and some probably need to be retired. Sorry the lake and my pots disappointed you. I am glad some of your family members enjoyed their stay . Update. I sharpened all the knives and left the knife sharpener for the guests to use, added 2 large baking dishes and I got rid of the 3 Teflon frying pans that were scratched.

Mountain get-a-way

  • 4 of 5

This year we decided our family vacation would be in the mountains instead of on the beach and we enjoyed it very much. We had 10 people and the house accommodated us very well with the 5 bedrooms. Both children and adults enjoyed having the pool table to use on the ground floor and it also provided a second space for the kids to play or watch their own tv shows. The cable and wi-fi worked well. The laundry area was great as we had 4 families there. We liked that the kitchen was open to the dining and livingroom and it had everything you might need but having a couple of Corningware type casserole dishes would have been great as we cooked in everyday. We were able to have a fire one night to toast marshmallows but gathering wood wasn't as easy as one might think even with all the woods around. The paddle boat was fun but only used one as the other had no rudder but that was enough. We brought along several yard games to play but didn't get them out as we were there the week that the yard wasn't scheduled to be mowed. Would recommend having it done weekly in the summer months. As for the resort, everyone loved the amenities. The kids were at the beach and pool every day and got to play putt-putt. The guys got in a few rounds of golf on the beautiful course and not to leave the girls out, a spa day was had! All in all, we had a great time and would come back again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. Yes I added the second paddle boat this summer. The rudder kept getting bent on the original boat from being drug up onto the grass. It is much easier to steer with a paddle. Great for boat races...

A perfect week!

  • 5 of 5

The house was set up perfectly for our two families. We had so much fun swimming in the lake and using the boats. The yard was perfect for our dog and he had as much fun in the lake as the rest of us. The pool table was a hit with young and old and the big windows and porches gave us a beautiful view of nature and lots of wildlife. The house was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. We had an amazing time!

Family fun

  • 5 of 5

The house was great for our multi-generational family. Kitchen had everything, enough free space to have some separate time. Beaches and pools were wonderful

Review

We truly enjoyed our stay. The space within the house was perfect for the amount of people we had. It provided everything needed for cooking, entertainment, etc.. We don't have many negative things to mention. One of the few things that couls have made our stay better was the grass being cut before out arrival vs afterwards. Also, swimming off the deck was not quite as inviting as it appeared to be from pictures. It was wonderful having the canoe and paddle boat, which we truly enjoyed.

With kind regards, Kurt

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. I am glad you enjoyed your vacation. The grass gets mowed every 2 weeks as needed, but they are always happy to come sooner if a guest requests it. The lake bottom is kind of muddy , fun to swim in as long as you can keep your feet off the bottom. The beach in the resort has a sandy bottom and perfect for lake swimming. Hope you can come again soon...
