About Cher Trenholme
Aloha to all my family of guests past and future! I am currently living in Florida with my new husband Richard, however, my heart is always in Molokai where I was teaching 2nd grade in 2006. I enjoy travel and have recently visited Peru, China, 7 Western European countries, as well as 10 National Parks and numerous Nat. Monuments and state Parks in the Southwest. We also stayed 2 weeks this summer in my favorite location, Cottage 2A, Molokai. We explored the east end, swam in the waterfall pools at the Halawa Falls, snorkeled right out front and sipped wine on the lanai each night to a majestic sunset over Oahu. Please feel free to contact me or my assistant Michelle; you'll find I'm an accessible, helpful and friendly hostess! I know you will fall in love with Molokai and Cottage 2A, as I did!
Cher Trenholme purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why Cher Trenholme chose Maunaloa
The moment I saw Cottage 2A, right on the ocean, I fell in love! I love being 100 steps to the sand, living in my fully furnished tropical home, which I am delighted to share with you. We had been looking on Maui, but this is truly paradise, unspoiled and uncrowded Hawaii as it has been for centuries.
What makes this Cottage unique
Located at the quiet, secluded northern edge of the Kaluakoi Villas, Cottage 2A affords privacy, spectacular views and the constant music of the waves. You will think you are on your own private island! The ultimate in relaxation.

Relax in Molokai
We took a couple's trip away from the kids and city life in search of quiet and relaxation. We definitely found it here! The sounds of the ocean (just steps off of the lanai) lulled us to sleep and the chirps of the birds and geckos were nature's alarm. Awesome getaway! Mahalo to Cher, Michelle, and Carol 😊
Beachfront on Molokai
Enjoyed our 3 days on Molokai; first time to visit the island. Property is right above a small beach popular with local surfers and a short walk further to a splendid wide beach. The unit was well-equipped; had the charm of Hawaii of 20 years ago. Good ocean views from bedroom and living room. Two added comments are that a) the location is a goodly distance (about 20 - 30 minutes) from the airport, stores and other activities and b) being located on the grounds of the defunct Sheraton resort (closed for many years now) there are a number of closed-off buildings nearby that detract from the ambiance. However, they are "out of sight" from the beach and the unit itself so that does not detract much from the experience. As well as a decent pool less than 5 minutes walk from the unit, there is a small convenience store on the property that is well-stocked. Prices are high but can save one a long trip into the main area of Molokai. The store at Maunaloa closed earlier in 2020 so the store at the condo/resort area is the only option in the immediate area. Best to buy all provisions in the central area of Molokai. I would consider returning to this unit if I were to return to Molokai in the near future.
It was great in every aspect. Carol was very helpful when we had questions. We will be back!
Thank you Cher for sharing your wonderful home with us.
We had stayed in another condo in this area, but wanted to be closer to the ocean this trip. Cher’s place fit that description! You are as close as you can be without getting wet! Falling asleep to the thundering waves was wonderful. We watched the local surfers on good wave days, whales playing, sunsets, and just the waves in general, right from the lanai. There are great walking/hiking trails right from the cottage, and several beaches within walking distance; many times you are the only one there! But a word of caution: the currents here in winter are treacherous, so swimming is not advised most days.
Aside from the great location, this cottage has everything you need for a beach vacation: towels, beach chairs and umbrella, even boogie boards! There is cable tv, good WiFi, and plenty of books and some games for the occasional rainy day. Communication with the owner, and housekeeper, is very good. Any questions or concerns I had were quickly responded to. I would highly recommend renting this cottage!
A note about Molokai: there are few restaurants, and town is a half hour drive, so be prepared to do your own cooking. If you are looking for upscale dining, vibrant nightlife, endless tourist activities, and lots of shopping, this is NOT the island for you! If you want laid-back, relaxing days, with friendly folks waving hello wherever you go, this IS the island for you! As the saying goes, “Don’t change Moloka’i, let Moloka’i change you”.
Some favorites this trip: Hālawa Valley cultural tour, fly fishing with Captain Clay of HallelujahHou Fishing, seeing whales breaching, hiking to the top of Kaiawa Rock (just to the south of the resort).
Excellent location!! We did not even want to leave our lanai. Excellent location for watching the surf and surfers all day long!
Donkey ride or flights to Kalapapa historic leper colony, Saint 'Father Damien' monuments, sugar museum, plumeria farm, sightseeing, hiking, Nature Conservancy, biking, Kite Factory Maunaloa, serene and relaxing, pristine beaches galore, no traffic, commune with nature, enjoy sunsets, privacy and solitude, Coffees of Hawaii tour and hayride, tour of macadamia nut farm, Ironwoods golf course, drive to beautiful Halava Valley or simply watch the waves and relax!
