About Uwe or Nancy

Uwe & Nancy have lived in Three Rivers for 40 years. Uwe is originally from Germany & Nancy is a native Californian. Uwe was trained as a chef in Germany & Nancy is an RN...but they worked together for almost 30 years in the candy & ice cream business. They love to travel and have been to many places in the world, enjoying much of it on board of container ships. Since retiring & selling their business in 2005, they have not only more time to travel, but also to pursue other interests. Uwe loves his home orchard & little tractor. As a 'gentleman farmer' he converts many of his crops to jars of jams, toppings, yeasts cakes & chutneys. Nancy has turned to the fiber arts; she weaves, hand spins & dyes yarns & fibers. Both enjoy music & have an extensive collection of performances in classical, jazz, and other types of music.

Meeting new people who also enjoy travelling is one of the motivations to have a vacation rental.

Why Uwe or Nancy chose Sequoia, Kings Canyon

Our home is short distance from the River Haus. When this little gem on the water became available, we couldn't resist such a golden opportunity to have such a unique home on the river.

We have had it as a monthly rental for over 25 years and now want to share the beauty of this place with many more people...and we get to enjoy it ourselves!

What makes this house unique

This secluded retreat has a spectacular view of the river in complete privacy. Leaded glass at the front door, handcrafted cabinets and a carved interior wood door reflect the custom work done in the home. Redwood boards panel the walls. There are wooden floors throughout. It all comes together to give a cabin feel which says relax. It’s time to unwind.

Our location invites you to go out & explore the area...Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Mineral King and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Then return to a comfortable, private home and recount the adventures of your day.

Step into the Kaweah River Haus. Step in and forget your worries...and come back soon!

Relaxing house right on the river

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the landscaping and sitting on the deck by the river and mountains. One thing i might recommend bringing are gravity chairs; they allow you to sit all the way back so you can really check out the stars at night. You can get them at Amazon or Lowes and not too expensive. But the chairs here are just fine as well

We cooked here and the kitchen has just about everything you might need. I might recommend having another non stick pan or so if you plan to cook a lot. The grill outside is great, too. We utilize Hello Fresh, a meal kit delivery service which is super convenient to bring with you on trips. The food is all pre packaged for you so it makes it easy to pack, store, and best part no waste.

The bathroom has most of what you might need but I would still bring all your essentials like body lotion, soap, etc.

There is a fantastic swimming hole right by the house which my husband swam in. Unfortunately, one evening there were a few people there hanging out and one person actually threw a beer can into the river! Hopefully the neighboors can keep an eye out if they ever come back!!

The location of the house to the park is wonderful.

Beautiful spot!

  • 5 of 5

This little cabin by the river exceeded expectations, the deck overlooking the rushing river feels like an oasis of tranquility and Nancy is a wonderful host, and did her best to make us feel at home. She was out of our way but always available to make sure everything went smoothly. We definitely hope to come back to the same property.

Cozy, charming and sooo relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky to find this home on VRBO for the timeframe we needed, but didn't know how lucky we were until we arrived at the Kaweah River Haus. Nancy couldn't be kinder and more thoughtful in how the home is furnished and her attitude toward making a stay comfortable for her guests (and you really feel like you are her personal a good way!). The fresh fruit she leaves is amazing, the beds are incredibly comfortable, the kitchen extremely well appointed (we ate in every night) and the house is perfectly charming. The best part is the lovely view on the deck in the mornings and evenings. Our very favorite time (visiting multiple places in California) was here in Three Rivers. The proximity to the parks made day hikes convenient, and we really enjoyed coming "home" in the evenings, fixing a delicious meal, watching the Olympics and getting a good night's sleep to prepare for another great day of hiking. We would absolutely stay here again. Thank you so very much, Nancy!

Owner's Response: Thank you Carrie! I'm glad that you pointed out that it is "a nice place to come home to"...exactly what I want you to feel and besides that, it reminds me of an old song. You can do the "by the fire" part in the winter, which is also a nice time to stay. Would love to have you and your family come back. Thanks, Nancy

Magical cozy place in idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

This River Haus is by far the best place we have rented in quite some time. The place was spotless, equipped with every amenity you can think of. Both fresh oranges and lemons were left out upon our arrival alongside an electric squeezer, making it easy to enjoy freshly squeezed oj in the morning and lemonade after long hikes in the park. Every morning we were greeted by hummingbirds on the porch and we spotted two deer across the river. Nancy was super friendly and accommodating but also gave you your privacy- we felt very well taken care of. The space was perfect for all of us, including our teenage son. While we planned to eat in town, we ended up eating in as you couldn't beat the views. Swimming in the nearby swimming hole was refreshing and fun. Thanks Nancy for such a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Yes...the spot to eat in town! I'm happy that you found it so irresistible. And good for you that you spotted the deer. We have had a mom and her two fawns frolicking on the property here at the house too...such a joy to watch. Thanks for your comments, Nancy

Beautiful and cozy and perfect for our traveling family

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at River Haus for 3 nights during our hiking trip in CA. We were out hiking first in Yosemite and then to Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Found this house on VRBO and loved all the pics. We were so surprised when we arrived by how much more the pics didn't show of this beautiful property. Everything was beautiful and the river was so amazing to sit by at night and listen to the water after long days of hiking. We have two teenagers -one took the small bedroom and the other the pull out couch and we all had plenty of space to spread out. I loved cooking meals in the kitchen! The best was meeting Nancy and how much info she gave to us about the house and the surrounding areas. Also the best lemons I have ever tasted from their orchard!! Best lemonade recipe too! We filled our water bottles with fresh lemonade every day. We recommend everyone to this very special and beautiful home!!

Owner's Response: The hiking and walks in our "neck of the woods" are some of the best anywhere...and to have a comfortable place to rest your feet in the evening completes the experience. I'm glad you enjoyed the sofa bed's new has been very well received. Thanks for your input! Nancy

Riverside retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here (a family with two teenagers) for three nights as part of our California road trip and it was a great place to relax after a few nights in San Francisco. We chose the location for easy access to the National Park and it was perfect - just a 10-minute drive up the road to the entrance. The house is a quirky and charming family holiday home (don't go expecting super-modern fittings) with a large, sunny and totally private deck looking directly over the river – with table, plenty of chairs and cushions, a sun-bathing deck and a bbq. We spent most of our down-time here and it was a real highlight of the property. Just a minute's walk along the road, there's easy access to the river and a lovely spot where you can swim. Nancy was a kind and engaging host who was eager to ensure we had a great stay – which we did. Thank you, Nancy.
