The lanai offers a serene area for morning coffee at sunrise and evening relaxation. Sleeping accommodations include a comfortable queen size bed and queen sofa/sleeper in the living room. Condo has an unobstructed view of the ocean with flow through ocean breezes. Each room has a 52" ceiling fan. The large, noisy AC units are installed on the lanais, and spoil the serenity, which is why we do not have AC!

Located in the heart of Kapaa town, Pono Kai Resort is walking distance to shops, restaurants and groceries! The resort's amenities include a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, 2 saunas, a workout studio, shuffleboard, putting greens, concierge services and more!

Kapaa's central location affords easy access to all island beaches. Numerous beaches within a 10-15 minute drive from this unit! Only 20 minutes away to the beautiful Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, 35 minutes to the beautiful Hanalei Bay both on the north shore. If you want to hit the sunny side of the island, its only a 45 minute (or less) drive to the south!

About John Strizver

This condo was purchased by us with my Dad as a place we could gather family to make those memories that last a lifetime and beyond. My Dad was very instrumental in making the Pono Kai into the destination it is today. He served on the Board of Directors, and his contributions are remembered by the Association with a palm tree dedicated to his memory right outside of this condo.

My family has built our own memories in Kauai using the Pono Kai as our home. Our sons are now making their own trips, taking friends that need to experience what Kauai has to offer.

Paradise found!

The condo was beautiful, comfortable, and very clean. The place was stocked with plenty of appliances, 3 large floor fans/ceiling fans, linens and towels (including 4 beach towels). The owners were actually staying in their other unit at Pono Kai and were extremely friendly and helpful. We loved watching the sunrise from the Lanai and would walk to Java Kai for delicious morning coffee and breakfast! We stayed here with our 2-year old daughter and felt like we had all the comforts of our own home. It was really hard to leave! I would definitely recommend this condo.

Incredible view of ocean, nice condo, lacks air conditioner

A very beautiful view of the ocean. Amenities are nice inside and out, kitchen and bathroom are nicely redone. Kapaa is a really fun town just a quick walk away. There is a strong breeze off the ocean that blows through the unit, except at night when you close the slider for security. It was very hot and muggy at night. Most of the other units had air conditioners. I would stay again, just not in August.

Beautiful Condo with Wonderful View

This condo is a newly renovated, modern condo. The property (Pono Kai) itself is somewhat dated but it is well kept and maintained and very clean. The condo was in a great, central location that made it easy to explore the entire island. We loved the patio and sitting out in the morning to watch the ocean (we even saw a whale in the distance one day!). The condo was stocked with almost everything we needed (cooking oil, spices, coffee filters, one lawn chair, flippers (no snorkel), umbrellas, beach mats, etc.) and we were provided with some kauai coffee and cookies to enjoy on our arrival. While we enjoyed our stay here and the condo, there are a few things to note: (1) as mentioned by others the internet is very unreliable and we often could not get access to the network. There are other units that do have their own networks (and we ended up using those quite often rather than the resort's own network) and the front desk was not overly helpful in terms of re-setting the modem, etc. We knew from the listing that wifi would be unreliable so it was not unexpected but it does seem strange that you would have to purchase upgraded internet in this day and age, particularly given the amount of other networks available at the property and the amount paid to stay here; (2) we were only provided with 3 toilet paper rolls for our entire visit and when we ran out we were told that they only provide a starter kit and implied we would have to buy additional toilet paper if we needed more. The property management company did bring us 2 additional rolls when we asked, but we thought this was kind of strange and have never experienced a toilet paper ration at any other condo we have rented, particularly given the amount paid. Our friends stayed at Waipouli Beach Resort and while the amenities at that resort are newer and nicer, we preferred this condo (particularly due to the amazing view). All in all, we would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend this condo. The owner was great to deal with and we had no issues in this regard.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Janelle Thank you for your review. We need the feedback from our guests to keep us on our toes, and keep improving that Kauaian experience. Frankly, I forgot about the wifi issue. It was on my "to-do" list a while back, but fell through the cracks. We will be adding our own service in both of our Pono Kai condos in the near future, and I thank you for reminding me about that. As I mentioned to my team, hearing about a shortage of paper products is like nails on a blackboard to me. Should NEVER happen! We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. It was a miscommunication and there are going to have backup starter supplies stocked in the condo to help prevent this in the future. Have a great day! Great time in John's Condo

My young daughter and I were in Kauai for a wedding and had what my daughter called "the best vacation ever!" I couldn't agree more with her.

John's condo with all the amenities of home was a big reason it was the best ever. I was able to whip up a grilled cheese with ease, load the ice chest with ice (thanks to the automatic ice maker) and snorkel, hike and sightsee from the condo's central location.

And the property management and owners were super responsive to make sure we had the greatest time.

I had the pleasure of meeting John and his lovely wife and their warmth made our trip all the more delightful.

I would stay at their condo again for sure. Two thumbs up from us!

Comfortable and homey

We stayed for 5 nights at the PK. The community is a little dated but has a lot of Hawaiian charm. It's located adjacent to downtown Kapa'a. You can walk to eat and shop. We drove 1 mile to the Foodland (great deli that carries Boar's Head and bakery) Safeway, but there is a Big Save within walking distance. Employees were friendly, and we took advantage of the mini golf and pool/spa. The actual unit has been remodeled, and it is very spacious. The location of this unit was central to pool and beach. We didn't swim in the ocean because there was trash and the waves were big when we were there. But we loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. Also, the view cannot be beat. Please note that there is no AC, so you have to open up all the windows. The owner of the unit was very helpful and accessible. Thank you!
