Maui is repeatedly ranked 'Best Island' by readers of Conde Nast, and Kaanapali is THE destination on Maui. The fabulous beach, Black Rock, the hotel strip (not over-developed like Miami or Honolulu) - you name it, if it's desirable, it's all at Kaanapali.

The problem is that Kaanapali has become quite pricey for a beachfront Condo or hotel room, which is why the Kaanapali Royal is such a welcome alternative.

Without a doubt the Kaanapali Royal is the best value in Kaanapali, and this unit is one of the best on property! Located on the golf course within easy walking distance to the beach and Whaler's Village- with its great shops, restaurants and activity centers.

The best of both worlds! Close to the action yet quiet and removed. The unit has been recently remodelled, and the grounds are just gorgeous. The large pool and spa have new flagstone, there are two excellent tennis courts. The complex is gated with night security (Not that you need it). Parking is at level grade under spreading shade trees. The front desk charges a flat fee for parking of $75.

Imagine 1500 square feet of living space with an expansive lanai, all mod-cons, sleeps six comfortably, full central air conditioning. Imagine the sunset view over the Pacific from your living room and lanai. Imagine a week or more in paradise!

I first went to Maui as a teenager, sleeping on beaches, eating fresh mangoes, and convinced that a carefree life swaying in a hammock under a palm tree was the epitome of ambition.

Now I am retired from being a politician in Metro Vancouver, dealing with everything from services to land use and Native Treaty rights, so coming to Maui with my partner is a nice opportunity to just unwind, do some snorkeling, swimming and warm weather hiking. There just is nothing like the perfume soft air of Maui to melt away tensions....

My parents bought a unit at the Kaanapali Royal at the time of original construction, because of its high quality, central location, and unique attributes- attached low rise, frontage on the golf course, concrete construction, central A/C. The pool area and tennis courts are top quality.

What makes this condo unique

The best thing about the KR is that it is a quiet oasis. There are no tourist crowds, no fighting for a poolside recliner. The landscaping is exquisite; everything is well maintained. I love that the beach is close by, but that there is complete privacy at the KR

want at Whaler's Village. Also, we really appreciated the large unit and the

Good condo at a great price

The view was amazing! It was just a short walk to the beach and the village. The property management staff, Peter & laura were phenomenal! Peter got back to me quickly with all my questions and allowed a later check out. The Internet went out, I know not a big deal on vacation, but I had some work with deadlines that had to be met, and laura was able to resolve the issue quickly and with plenty of time to meet my deadline.

I wasn't able to give 5 stars only because the condo needs a few updates and the AC didn't work all that well, but everything else was great. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and that the Internet issue was resolved (the modem had died- got a new one). Yes, the views are great, the location is near perfect (a bit away from the beach but easily walkable to get there ,plus a lot more private). Sorry about the A/C- it is now fixed, though it seems to require quite a lot of maintenance... With ceiling fans and the trade winds, most people don't actually rely on the A/C to keep cool. The decor is functional and all is well maintained, but no, this is not a super fancy unit. However, it is large, airy, with stellar ocean views, and priced well under some other units. Plus the complex itself is so appealing- with its lovely pool area, tennis courts and excellent landscaping with ground level shaded parking right by the units. Please come back again!

Clean, maintained & fabulous view overlooking 16th green & ocean.

First time we've stayed in a Maui condo. I will definitely choose to stay again. Kaanapali Royal is conveniently located, close to Whalers Village & beach. I didn't miss the hustle & bustle of beach hotels.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and the location. 'Close' means different things to different people- but the KR is easy walking distance to Whaler's Village and Kaanapali Beach. For those with very small children or with mobility problems, one can drive down (less than a minute), and if early enough, can get free beach parking beside the Westin. OR pay the few dollars to park at the parkade. And the big plus is to come back to a quiet relaxed haven!

Felt Like We Were Home!

Two years later and once again we returned to enjoy a great stay in this place. It felt like home with a gorgeous view, easy access to Whaler's Village and the beach. We discovered the convenience of the nearby walk-in clinic, when medical attention was required, and were delighted to enjoy rides on the tram shuttle. Most evenings we swam and barbecued down at the pool. Thanks again for a beautiful setting and a peaceful place, we now consider our home away from home.

Great Location - Close to Trolley

We really enjoyed the condo. The Condo was close to the property entrance where we caught the trolley. Enjoyed the well stocked condo (beach towels and portable chairs) and the sunset views from the lanai.

(Do wish the homeowners association did more for recycling.)

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! The KR has a great location, just across the golf course from Whalers Village and the beach. And the trolley makes it even easier if you don't care to walk that relatively short distance. The units are genuinely large and well appointed, so you really can feel at home. All the extra amenities reflect the fact this IS a home, not a hotel room. But I will talk to the management about recycling. After all, this is 2015.
