About Karen Roper
Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others. Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen teaches yoga during the summer months among some of Acadia's favorite vistas- Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Parkman Mountain and ocean front in Bar Harbor. Karen is presently enrolled in massage school and will graduate April 2015 with hopes of sharing the gift of massage at Acadia Yurts. As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

Mom's Escape Glamping Trip
Tales from the Yurt! We had a fantastic time at Acadia Yurts and loved that we were in the quiet part of MDI. Aaron & Karen are lovely hosts and the yurt was clean, new, and had all the amenities we were looking for. We were "Glamping"! Loved that we could do some scenic 'moderate' hikes in the park then drive to a delicious restaurant for a late lunch, shop a little, then escape from the tourist crowds back to our quiet yurt and take a hot shower and have some wine & light snacks. The bed was firm but easily remedied with an egg crate. It was warm & cozy but bring slippers as the cement slab they sit on is chilly. I bet that keeps things very comfortable in the summer though.
So much more to do and see that we really look forward to returning for a similar mom's get away next year....and we hope to book some massages then too ;-)
Unique idea in a wooded area with well thought out floor plan and everything you need provided
We enjoyed the yurts, good location for getting to the less frequented parts of Acadia and still close to town. Late September best time to go.
We loved it!
We loved the yurt! It was the exact experience we were looking for especially with our pup! The bathroom was great surprisingly really big and the kitchen had everything we needed for the week. The shared room of games and movies was perfect! The location was great very close to bar harbor and a ton of trails.
To offer suggestions, we got in after dark and the walk from the parking pad to yurt is very dark. The solar powered lights are not very effective. Also a few other guests did not abide to parking rules and were driving cars and starting before hours. I'd suggest a sign that reminds guests of the rules regarding parking the cars in the pad.
We would definitely come back and recommend the yurt to others! We truly enjoyed the week!
Good. Well maintained. Beautiful area.
Had a great time.
Spotlessly clean yurt, well equipped and in a convenient location to Acadia.
Karen and Aaron were wonderful hosts. Very eager to make everything perfect for our stay.
Surprising spacious in a wonderful location.
The yurt was comfortable and well equipped. It was amazingly spacious with everything we needed including a really great shower! The setting is lovely and peaceful and the location is convenient for exploring Acadia.
