Acadia Yurts also has electric heat inside each yurt so that you can be comfortable during any season. About Karen Roper
Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others. Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen teaches yoga during the summer months among some of Acadia's favorite vistas- Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Parkman Mountain and ocean front in Bar Harbor. Karen is presently enrolled in massage school and will graduate April 2015 with hopes of sharing the gift of massage at Acadia Yurts. As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

Truly an amazing experience! Very clean and well kept, set up incredibly well and comfortably. Absolutely would recommend and I am looking forwards to returning!
The yurts were great.
Very nice and clean. Quiet location. Owners were very nice and offered a lot of help. A little pricey considering they ask you to clean everything before you leave but they did return the deposit very quickly. I would recommend and would stay there again.
Great. Relaxing location
Very clean, private, quiet. Relaxing
We had a fantastic stay at Acadia Yurts! The yurt we stayed in was gorgeous—we were deeply impressed by the taste and attention to detail Karen and Aaron had devoted to the interior. It’s amazing how much you can stretch out in a yurt, even with a built-in, quite ample kitchen and bathroom! It was also wonderful that we could bring our dog, who immediately made himself right at home. Karen and Aaron were both very thoughtful during our stay—greetings us with a handwritten note on the dining table upon arrival, reaching out after our first night with an email to see how things had gone, and answering our questions in person and by phone about where to eat and what to see on MDI. We accidentally left behind a raincoat when we departed the yurt, and they mailed it to us the next day! We can hardly wait to return to stay again.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind and thorough review! We look forward to hosting your family again soon!
Beautiful and relaxing
We loved staying at the yurts for our spring break. Everything was clean, beautiful, and well stocked. It worked out great for our small family with a toddler, and was so nice to come home to after a day of hiking!
A yurt oasis in a private but accessible location on Mount Desert Island, Maine!
My husband and I can't say enough about or trip to Acadia Yurts! We brought along our beloved Irishdoodle as well who was thrilled to accompany us on daily hikes. What a treat to find dog-friendly accommodations. Certainly better than any hotel or Inn around!
The yurt itself is in Southwest Harbor. A lovely quiet spot in the Acadia region. We felt peaceful here but also were also to scoot out for morning espresso or get to trailheads quickly for day hiking.
The yurt itself feels spacious. It is beautifully made and there is great attention to detail. There is a perfect kitchen set up and the yurt is close to an IGA for any supplies you may need for the mini fridge. There are even details like a strong flashlight for taking your pup out at night. The hot water in the showers is even better than in my house; which is always appreciated after a cool fall hike. Tip: make popcorn on the stove! (theres no microwave but this is way more tasty and fun!
We would recommend Beals Lobster Pier; although it was pricey, the lobster rolls are FANTASTIC! (and I'm from Maine, so I've had a lot of lobster.) We also liked Sips for their risotto. Both are in Southwest Harbor. We recommend hiking Mt. Mansell and finding lightly used trails on the south side of Acadia. We also visited a spectacular 'dog park' on little long pond, which meanders around a carriage trail with views of Cadillac mountain. The walk to Bar Island at low tide (in Bar Harbor) is a bit crowded but a great couple of hours by the sea.
We are so happy to have gone in October as it is our favorite month. The foliage and temps were perfect. Some day we will stay there and race on MDI marathon weekend! Thank you Karen & Aaron!
