Vacation in an ancient circular dwelling with all comforts of home

Acadia Yurts offers visitors the most unique way to stay on Mount Desert Island. Four fun, eco-friendly Yurts will bring you as close to nature as camping, with all the amenities of home. Located on 5 acres of lovely wooded land, surrounded by Acadia National Park property, Acadia Yurts offer a peaceful retreat for your small group (up to 4 guests per Yurt). Acadia Yurts is also ideal for large groups traveling with accommodations for up to 16 people on 1 site.

A yurt is a tent-like circular fabric structure with a wood lattice frame that originated among the nomadic tribes in Asia. These permanent structures have thick canvas exterior walls that include reflective insulation so they can be used in all seasons. Acadia Yurts also has electric heat inside each yurt so that you can be comfortable during any season. Yurts are quickly becoming a new vacation experience that vacationers are enjoying throughout the US from cliff side views in California to ski lodges in Colorado. This is a memorable place to stay while enjoying the beauty of Acadia!

About Karen Roper

Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others.

Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen teaches yoga during the summer months among some of Acadia's favorite vistas- Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Parkman Mountain and ocean front in Bar Harbor. Karen is presently enrolled in massage school and will graduate April 2015 with hopes of sharing the gift of massage at Acadia Yurts.

As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

Having never stayed in a yurt, we were pleasantly surprised with the accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

We have never stayed in a yurt...nor are we campers...we weren't sure what to expect. We were amazed at the spacious size of the yurt! It was very well appointed with everything you would expect at home. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need (except for a microwave), and the bathroom is large and has indoor plumbing and hot water, not like roughing it at all! The location is very quiet and serene. There are two hammocks which we made good use of! We were especially happy with the yurt because we were permitted to bring our dog, which made our vacation extra special. I would recommend this property and we hope to return in the future. Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

It is always a joy when your expectations are exceeded in a VRBO booking. That was the case with Acadia Yurts. The whole experience was easy and amazing. The yurt was comfortable, cozy, clean, and a great change from house and hotel! Aaron and Karen's attention to details, pride of ownership, and desire for a true adventure were evident in every aspect of the property. The Yurt we stayed in was pet friendly and our doggies loved the experience as well.

If you are going to Acadia, do your self a favor, and book an Acadia Yurt!

"Glamping" in its finest!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Flying Mountain yurt.

On first arrival the yurt was clean and we immediately felt a warmth of homieness.

A lovely note from Aaron and Karen welcomed us and offered their help with whatever needs or questions we had.

Southwest Harbor is beautiful and quiet compared to the craziness of Bar Harbor. We visited but we're glad to come back to the peace and quiet of our yurt.

I could go on and on about how great our stay was but to much goodness and u may stop believing what I say. Just book your week at Arcadia Yurts. You won't be disappointed.

Peace & Comfort!

  • 5 of 5

When we first saw the photos of our yurt, I was hopeful that it looked like what we saw online. When we opened the door, every detail was exactly the same as what was online! We were very happy and stayed in our extremely comfortable yurt for the first night. How lovely to have AC, heat, hot showers, and a lovely kitchen complete with local coffee right in the middle of Acadia. We deemed ourselves "glampers" instead of campers as this was so very glamorous!

Aaron & Karen checked in on us via a phone call after first night and we knew they were there if we needed anything at all!

The red barn has so many supplies and board games for rainy days!

We absolutely loved Acadia Yurts and look forward to only staying there in the future! What a find! THANK YOU!!!!
