Oceanfront Eco Cottage on Burton Beach

Bedrooms 1
Space 500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Your Northwest Island Beach Paradise

Stay over the tides. Watch the sun rise across the water. Explore your private beach. Fish, crab, paddle or swim off the deck into Puget Sound. Hike off the property into old-growth Burton Woods. Bike the Burton loop. Walk 0.2 mile to Jensen’s Point for watercraft rentals. This is your off-the-road and over-the-ocean northwest island paradise.

Our Oceanfront Eco Cottage is a rare solar-powered home on pilings located on a private beach in Quartermaster Harbor on the Burton peninsula. A short walk down to the wrap-around deck will find you nestled in views and surrounded by wildlife.

Hear the water under you during high tide and beach comb the bounty of the Salish Sea during low tide. You will enjoy a large bay window with skylight over the water to the east, French doors that open onto the deck to the north, and a garden window to the south. The cottage sleeps up to four and features an organic mattress and linens. Chaise couch pulls out to a full size mattress in addition to the queen-size bed. The kitchen is fully equipped. We have a flat screen tv for use with dvd player, broadband wi-fi for high-speed internet access.

Our Oceanfront Eco Cottage is located on Vashon Island, where rural lifestyles (we don’t have any stop lights!) and natural wonders coexist a short ferry ride from urban pleasures in Seattle and Tacoma. Vashon Island hosts a vibrant arts community and many delights for the foodie (including May’s Kitchen, the best Thai in the region) and farm-fresh crowd. Vashon also has three vineyards, the historic Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie, and destination Lavender Hill Farm. Vashon’s downtown is a few miles from the cottage, though our Burton neighborhood market and excellent espresso stand are within biking or walking distance.

Beyond relaxing on the deck and playing in the water, you can enjoy the Island’s extensive nature trails and bird watching (Quartermaster Harbor is an Audubon hot spot), a local cinema and a plethora of artist studios, live theater and live music.

A rare find: a unique beach/island oasis of peace with easy access to a myriad of outdoor activities

  • 5 of 5

Oceanfront Eco Cottage is an unusual gem. Set over Quarter Master Harbor on stilts, we enjoyed a restful and enchanting week in this sleekly put together minimalist cottage that boasts water views from three sides.

Everything you could need is thoughtfully in place and you will enjoy seeing and listening to the water from the bed, couch, living area and kitchen!

The wrap around deck is an incredible place in its own right- lean over the edge at high tide and watch jellyfish float by, harbor seals poke their heads out and crabs scramble around. An excellent place for breakfast, dinner, watching the sunrise and the sunset.

Low tide allows for closer inspection with lots of treasures on the beach and shallow water to wade and view marine life. It also allows you to take the 10 minute walk down the beach to Vashon Watersports for kayak and paddle board rentals.

Rent or bring your own boat and explore the easy and more protected waters of Quarter Master Harbor.

Situated on the Burton Peninsula, a few minutes walk from the cottage is Burton Acres, a forest trail system filled with quiet walks, ferns and tall trees, blackberry bushes and a few Faerie trees. The loop itself is 3 miles and great for walking. The charming town of Burton is about a 15-20 minute walk and has a general store, coffee shop, seasonal pay-on-your-honor farm and flower stands, and a few shops.

The bus system is great and Vashon town is filled with good eats and quaint shops. It is a slower pace and a throwback to a quieter lifestyle.

Seana and Barron have done an impeccable job refurbishing an old house into a one of a kind retreat on a very special Puget Sound island. Friendly, warm, and Eco-minded they are very easy to rent from and we plan to return to this most excellent VRBO!

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

I loved staying at the Oceanfront Eco Cottage, however I do think guests should be aware that there is no microwave available, and that is a strenuous walk to and from the car.

Thanks Randi

Beautiful little house, amazing location and attentive hosts.

Everything we needed for a restful retreat. We put our kayaks in right off the deck steps. Really nice woods right opposite the driveway. House is perfect and beautiful. We'd love to come back.

Sweet, romantic, waterfront cabin in Burton on beautiful Vashon Island!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a quiet, private, waterfront cabin on Vashon Island for my wife's 50th birthday and we found exactly what we were looking for in this property! We love Vashon Island, so the idea of staying a few days on the island in a sweet little cabin was perfect. The owners of this cabin were wonderful from the time we booked our stay to the time we checked out. The cabin is located on Burton Beach, a spectacular location if peace and quiet are priorities. The Burton loop is wonderful for walking, cycling, beachcombing and berry picking. You can rent kayaks just down the street and paddle back to the cabin! The cabin itself is oozing with charm. From the white clapboard siding to the PNW décor, this cabin screams cute! The kitchen had everything we needed, even some wonderful herbs and spices, thank you very much! The bedroom nook is easy to navigate, the bedding luxurious. There is a cozy living area that looks out onto the water where you can read, relax or watch a movie. Our favorite spot to enjoy was the deck...... listening to the water lap up against the rocks..... there's something medicinal about that. These are sights and sounds and smells that cannot be created or experienced online. Go there. See for yourself. You won't be disappointed. And stop off at the Vashon coffee roasters on your way in. That place is amazing!!! We can't wait to go back!

Lovely, peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This little home was so warm and welcoming! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We especially loved sitting on the deck morning, noon, and night - it was so peaceful yet there is so much to see! Especially enjoyed watching the otters play and eat in the water. Even the weather cooperated - it was so clear that at night we were able to stargaze and watch satellites pass by! Seana was wonderful, very comfortable to talk to and she made sure all was good! We loved our stayed on Vashon Island and will hopefully be back!

Jensen Point Park in Quartermaster Harbor is around the corner. Enjoy this 4.0 acre shoreline activity park located on the east shore of Burton Peninsula off Harbor Drive.

Jensen Point provides one of two island boat launch and parking areas for motorized craft and a put-in access for hand carry kayaks and canoes. A small grassy area and picnic tables have been installed along the sand and cobblestone beach, which, due to the shallow water depth, is relatively warm for Puget Sound waters during the summer months.

The boathouse is home to Vashon Watersports, a kayak rental center, and to Vashon Island Rowing Club. It is also host to the Vashon Jr. Crew rowing program, operated in cooperation with the local rowing club and providing permanent instruction and operating space. Vashon Island Rowing Club is a year round adult rowing program, and Junior Crew is for boys and girls age 13 - 18. Juniors have a 12 week Fall season starting the last week of August and a 16 week Spring season starting the end of January in addition to summer camps.

Kayak and rowing classes are available for all ages. Vashon Watersports offers kayak rental and instruction out of the boathouse.
