About Gigi Rechel

Two attorney family with one late in life young child. We love the outdoors, hiking, biking, sight seeing and love sharing our time in the mountains with our home in Florida and other vacation home at the beach.

Gigi Rechel purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Gigi Rechel chose Lake Toxaway

We looked for several years in Highlands, Cashiers and Lake Toxaway. Love this location because it feels like you are camping in the woods but in reality residing in a safe upscale mountain community. You can see no other home and the 5 acre property is flat so kids can run and play safely. We picked the location for quick access to Ashville airport, City of Brevard and Ashville, Sapphire, Cashiers and Highlands.

What makes this cottage unique

The property affords four season enjoyment. Summer cool mountain air and festivals. Fall colorful leaf change, apple picking and country fairs. Winter skiing at Sapphire and Cattalochee. Spring blooming of the rhodendrums and other spring beauty.

Beautiful cabin, with a great view

  • 5 of 5

If you need a nice quite vacation, then this is the place you should plan on staying. From booking till checkout, it was a very pleasant experience. Owner was very very helpful.

We arrived late, the house was well lit and clean. Kids had a great christmas. This was our 5th or 6th trip to Asheville, and we had a very enjoyable trip.

THANKSGIVING BLESSING!

  • 5 of 5

Qualla Retreat was more than our family ever expected. It was a long time dream to gather all of us for a Thanksgiving vacation in the hills of North Carolina and we were thrilled with the house. Plenty of room for all of us and we didn't need any of the "stuff" we hauled up. The kitchen was fully stocked and we were happy to have the second refrigerator downstairs for the leftovers. We hiked, shopped, visited the Biltmore (one sister never left the house..enjoyed the quiet time by the warmth of the fireplace) and over all enjoyed every minute of our stay.

We will hopefully return in the summer to enjoy a different season..Highly recommend!!!

Very comfortable. Many thanks!

  • 5 of 5

We liked your house, thank you. It was perfect for our seven adults and two children.

I suggest stenciling some identifier on your canoe. We took your suggestion and walked to the lake with the paddles. It wasn't at all clear which boat, so we chose one of roughly the right color and set out. Later another boater told us that a neighbor awaited us and his canoe on the dock. He actually didn't seem too upset, but good management should avoid such situations. Hope it's the worst thing that happens to you all year!

Great family time!

  • 5 of 5

There was plenty of room for our family reunion. The porch was our favorite place to sit and take in the beauty and quietness of the mountains! The layout of the house worked great with the kids having their own area while the adults had theirs. Children loved the bunk room! We enjoyed playing in the lake and being able to use the canoe and paddle boat! Centrally located to waterfalls and trails.

Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

We shared this house with another family of four. We were all very impressed with the number of separate rooms for everyone to sleep in. Perfect for two couples, two teens, and two younger children. A third family could easily have also joined us--there were left-over beds.

I'm kind of a neat-freak, and was very happy with the cleanliness of the furniture, carpet, rugs, and bathrooms. Towels and bed linens were very clean and plentiful. Owners had plenty of cleaning supplies on hand for us to use as well. My only gripe in this department was that the cabinets in the kitchen are jam-packed so it was hard to find places to put all our food, but that was easily remedied. This house has a second refrigerator and a bar area with more counter space, so this was a non-issue.

There is a washer and dryer, which came in handy after a day of strenuous hiking!

The location is great. Not far from several beautiful lakes, Brevard, Cashiers, Flat Rock, and Highlands. Several rental options relatively close by for tubing, boating, jet-skiing, kayaking...you name it.

At night, after a day in the sun, a great meal easily prepared in the well-equipped kitchen, there are games, puzzles, direct tv, and wi-Fi. There are even a bunch of oldie-but-goodie VHS movies on hand for a movie-and-popcorn night. The fire pit was fantastic--we had s'mores several nights during our stay.

We would definitely stay here again, and cannot recommend it enough. I wish we could keep it a secret! Owners are wonderful to work with and extremely responsive throughout the entire process. It was a fabulous stay!

Wonderful Christmas get away!

  • 5 of 5

The view was fantastic. It was very private and there was plenty to do. We came for Christmas and there was even a Christmas tree put up which was beautiful. There were enough games to keep the kids busy. The house definitely had a homey feeling. It was cozy and the fireplace was amazing. We tried to visit multiple water falls but unfortunately the best one was closed due to the fires. The other waterfall we went to was ok but at least the hike there was great. For a place that had a lot of modern technology in the kitchen the tvs were really antiques. Did not help that we bought blu rays to watch and couldn't but luckily we made due. It was great getaway and a place we would love to stay at again. Highly recommend this place for a vacation.
