“Red Sky in the morning, sailor’s warning, red sky at night, sailor’s delight”
Sailor’s Delight sits on open water with a view across the Manatee River to Bradenton, yet provides protected harborage for your boat around the point on the east side of the property. Call seven two seven, six eight six, eight five four five for more information or to negotiate pricing. Located in Palmetto, an “Old Florida” historic town just north of Bradenton and south of St. Petersburg, FL, this sophisticated home, which is offered as a vacation rental only since December 2015, sits on a point where the water swirls past on a windy day and the sun dances on the surface broken by the dorsal fins of dolphins swimming nearby. An inlet curves around Sailor's Delight from the Manatee River, and the river is only a short distance from the Gulf of Mexico. Because the inlet has warmer water than the river, many fish congregate at the junction and as a result sea birds, pelicans, seagulls, ospreys among others, constantly fish just off the seawall. The viewing is spectacular. Sailor's offers 3 kayaks and 2 paddle-boards to launch off your own floating dock.
If you sail in from the Gulf of Mexico, just at the mouth of Tampa Bay, you, your friends and family, (human and/or canine), can tie up at the new dock and step into a yard ringed with trees, including coconut, royal and cabbage palm, magnolia, two varieties of avocado, Meyer lemon, Persian lime, ruby red grapefruit, and navel orange. At the right time of year you can pick all these fruits and combine them for a delicious citrus and avocado salad.
THE HOUSE: Inside the house, you make that salad in a fully equipped gourmet kitchen designed for the whole family to create culinary masterpieces together. Kitchen equipment includes brand new stainless steel appliances and fixtures, including double convection ovens; 36” induction cooktop with 36” hood; two separate sinks, each with its own dishwasher; two separate microwaves; through-the-door water/ice dispensing refrigerator/freezer; new white cabinets, granite countertops, and an island that accommodates small electric appliances, including blenders, toasters, toaster oven, food processor, crock pot, Keurig coffee maker, standard coffee pot and a teapot. The island also houses a wine cooler and provides seating for 6 people. A grill sits on the patio, for outdoor cooking to compliment dishes from the kitchen.
As you sit in the kitchen sipping your morning coffee, perhaps watching the morning news on the 40” curved Ultra High Definition TV mounted on the wall near the induction cooktop, you look outside to see boats idling by, manatees mating off the dock (you should be at least 18 years old to witness some of these things) , and small schools of dolphins charging through to catch mullet. A Brown Pelican, which was removed from from the Endangered Species List in 2009, dive-bombs a hapless fish, then glides away with a bulging beak.
“What a wonderful bird is the Pelican, his beak can hold more than his belly can.”
New this summer is a floating dock for kayak launches. We have three kayaks for your use, you may paddle kayaks just off the dock, and as you launch it, you may glimpse a Snook lurking under the dock, daring you to catch him, or see hundreds of rays swim by. An osprey sits atop the mast of my old sailboat as a cormorant, perched on a tie pole, spreads his wings to dry.
The house itself contains three bdrms and two bathrooms. The master-bedroom has a king size bed, a 43 inch 4K Ultra High Definition TV, a bathroom with a shower and a walk-in closet. The 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed, TV, water views in two directions, and shares the main bath (which has a tub/shower) with the third bedroom, which has three bunk beds and also has a TV and water view. The bedrooms have spacious chests of drawers to store your belongings.
The pet-friendly house itself is finished throughout with Travertine tiles and the back yard is fenced for your dog. Inside, you will find comfortable furniture and original art. Generous bright lighting throughout the house illuminates kitchen preparations and other activities. The bookshelf contains books, magazines, playing cards, a jigsaw puzzle, board games, dvds, music cds and a boom box, for a rainy day. The upright piano hopes it will be played, but if not, you may watch the 55” curved Ultra High Definnition TV mounted just above the piano.
Outside, on the patio, you might try gyotaku, rubbings made with dead fish on rice paper. If you don’t catch a fish off the dock, you may buy one from the nearby Publix supermarket, and an art store just across the Green Bridge will sell you ink and rice-paper.
Just off the patio is the new swimming pool which was installed in February 2016. It is a salt water pool which means there will be no chlorine and the water will be more pleasant, especially since it is also a heated pool with a heavy-duty heat pump to keep the water temperature comfortable even in January and February.
Solar panels were installed in August to reduce our carbon footprint and electric bill. As Fall approaches, the citrus fruit in the yard will be ready to eat.

What makes this House unique
This house sits at the intersection of the Manatee River and an inlet. The inlet has warmer water and fish (and manatees) congregate there. Many types of seabirds, including Brown Pelicans, Cormorants, Sea Gulls and Ospreys fish constantly where the waters meet. Additionally you can see dolphins charge into the inlet after the hapless fish (often mullets) and, at certain times of the year, rays will congregate as well as the occasional snook.

Wonderful Christmas Vacation
Property was perfect for our group ranging in age from 5-71 this Christmas! There were things for everyone to do - fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, the heated pool, etc. it was nice to be outside in December in flip flops!
The owners greeted us upon arrival with Christmas cookies, egg nog and champagne- what a treat! We loved the ability to pick fruit straight from the trees!
Thank you for such a nice review. We are impressed that you completed the manatee jigsaw puzzle, you are the first to have done so. Hope your trip home was easy. Thanks for being our guests. Happy New Year!
Wonderful Stay - Great Location
We recently stayed at Sailor's Delight while our son attended a baseball event at the Pirate City training facility. We really enjoyed our stay, the house was perfect for our family. EVE JOY was such a gracious host to us. Upon arrival, there was a delicious key lime pie for us and a box of treats for the dogs. The house was well stocked with everything we needed. Our son loved being right on the water and having the paddleboards and kayaks to use each day. We can't wait to come back for another family vacation!
Thank you so much for such a nice review. We enjoyed having you as guests! Hope we all meet again. Best regards, EVE Joy
Eve and Bill were wonderful . They met us there upon arrival. Had goodies for all of us cookies, fruit , juice and even bones for the dog. The house and views were definitely better than the pictures. The house had everything we needed. The whole family loved the pool and boat dock. It was a great time for all of us . The kids were busy the whole time swimming and fishing off the dock and my husband and I had lots of relaxation . Thanks for allowing us to make wonderful vacation memories in your home. We will definitely be booking with you again. I think we have found our new vacation home. Thanks Eve
We feel in love!
We have a large family (8) and a standard poodle, so it is not easy to find somewhere to accommodate our family. We had plenty of space even when we invited our local family members over. Eve and Bill made sure we were comfortable leaving us fruit, champagne (cider for the kids), cookies, and even dog treats. The house is fully stocked. There was something for everyone to do, we never heard a single,"I'm bored"! We will definitely return. This had to be one of our favorite family vacations!
Thank you so much, it was a pleasure having your family at Sailor's Delight!
A dream come true
Our family gathered here over the Thanksgiving holiday. Honestly I just hoped it wouldn't be too bad since everyone was flying in from out of state. I was way off the mark - this place was fabulous! The house was much larger than I envisioned, and being the internet junkie that I am, I appreciated having wifi readily available. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. Everything was decorated in an inviting manner. Don't miss the lighted mirror in the bathroom that is motion activated - It was amazing! The kitchen made me instantly envious - if I could, I would remove it and take it home. It was spacious and set up in a manner that made it a cook's dream - including double ovens and a huge island for prep. Several people are able to cook at once and never stumble over each other. We had 14 people present for the Thanksgiving meal. Never did it feel crowded or uncomfortable. I stepped into the backyard and could not believe my eyes! There was a large heated salt water pool overlooking the beautiful river. Just standing there looking out over the stunning horizon was a moment that could make you into a new human being. I ate outside, sitting at the large table near the pool. We were actually able to watch dolphins swimming right by the yard. I've never been anywhere like it. But if that wasn't enough, there was a dock and kayaks, just begging you to explore the river.
The biggest problem with this place was having to go home.
A slice of paradise
Stayed here with the family over the Thanksgiving holiday. This location is an unbelievable treasure! Located at the end of a quiet cul de sac on the Manatee River, this home offers everything you could ask for in a vacation home.
The house is spacious and has a very welcoming decor. Our Thanksgiving was made much easier to prepare for by the double oven and large cook top in the kitchen. Lots of counter space and an island made it a breeze to have everyone prepping without stumbling over one another. Gorgeous flat screen TVs were in every room, including the kitchen, so no one had to miss a football play.
The weather was amazing, which made it easy to enjoy the yard - and what a phenomenal yard it was! The whole family enjoyed the heated pool. Being a salt water pool, there wasn't any of that unbearable chlorine burn. The water was always blissfully warm, even in November. The lights within the pool made night swimming and amazing experience as well.
We enjoyed drinks on the dock in the back yard. Dolphins visited us everyday - although they were probably more there for the fish than our company. There was also a floating dock that made it easy to launch kayaks (provided on site) into the river. There is a nice network of canals to access the neighborhood cul de sacs for a relaxing kayak experience as well as the full open river for the adventurous.
There are grocery stores, local meat and seafood markets and other amenities all within a few minutes of the house. About 10 - 15 minutes away is a massive outlet mall collection for great shopping. There is also quick access to the major highways nearby to facilitate getting to Busch Gardens, downtown Tampa, Disney, Naples, you name it.
Also, there was an amazing wealth of information about the location and services left onsite by the owner. There was even contact information for a massage therapist that will come see you at the house - amazing luxury.
This is easily among the best stays I have ever had through a vacation rental. The only regret is having to go home.
You won't be disappointed. This is a stay that you'll remember for a lifetime.
