We are located on Channel Ridge looking toward Vancouver Island at approximately 450 ft. elevation. This makes us eye level with the eagle's nest in the front yard. Our custom home on a 5 secluded acre estate is an elegant West Coast contemporary built in 2005 that offers absolute privacy, sensational ocean vistas, and majestic forests with rambling trails for hiking, or biking on several hundred adjacent wild acres.

Endless views

Loved the house. Comfortable beds, well-stocked kitchen, owner is very responsive to questions. Enjoyed this stay immensely. Drive is steep as mentioned, be car-prepared. But that’s how you get to enjoy the fabulous views.

Fantastic bamboo grove

We had a wonderful time on SaltSpring and Bamboo Grove heightened the experience. The setting is perfect with access to trails and the shore nearby. The home itself is very thoughtfully designed and maintained. We look forward to future visits.

Wonderful property and host

Our family (4 adults and 2 young children) enjoyed our visit to Bamboo Grove. Eliot was a gracious and welcoming host, and the house and its surroundings are spectacular. We spent hours in the trails behind the house in the mornings, explored the Island in the afternoon, and returned to the house to watch the beautiful sunset in the evenings. We can’t wait to return!

Every Window is a Painting

If you ever want to be one with nature while staying in an authentic, Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home overlooking the ocean, then this is the place. Stunning house with windows and terraces overlooking forests, nature, and water. The sunsets were a great way to end the day before retiring to cozy beds. The mornings were peaceful with coffee on the balcony followed by a hot rain shower. Hiking and walks to watch the tides roll in were within minutes. We had the best sleep and ate some wonderful meals in the modern kitchen stocked with every appliance. The island is also full of beautiful scenery and has many great places to explore, whether you enjoy art galleries, farmer markets, artisan coffee, or just hiking amongst beautiful nature. Salt Spring Island was the most perfect place for a relaxing vacation.

Beautiful and tranquil

We enjoyed our quiet and restful week in this gorgeous house. The view is amazing. I was lucky enough one early morning to catch the full moon turning the water bright silver all the way to Vancouver Island. Magical! We found everything exactly as advertised. The location is private, the house is spacious, furnishings are comfortable and attractive, the kitchen is well equipped, the host is welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend, and we look forward to returning in the future.

ridge rest and relax

Beautiful peace and quiet in the bamboo grove at the top of the ridge with a backyard of nature trails and sunsets to watch. Great views from all rooms with excellent doors, windows, sky lights and screens. We enjoyed yoga on the deck, hiking, and close by paddling, tennis, pickle ball, biking, market and shopping. Eliot made sure all was well and all operation instructions were clear. Really enjoyed our stay and exploring this end of the island. Thank you Eliot!

Beautiful, restful, peaceful.

We spent a week here with our family (2 adults, 8 y/o, 5 y/o) and we were so happy that we decided to book it. We were there for a wedding, so were driving to Ganges quite often to meet up with family, but it wasn't too bad, maybe 15 min each way. The four of us had more than enough room to spread out, we were not for want of anything. It's a stunning property, extremely peaceful, could easily spend another week there just resting :) Elliot was very kind and communicative and was happy to assist with any questions we had.

Bamboo Grove Sep 2019

Its not easy to find wonderful places to vacation that are dog friendly so we felt very fortunate when we happened upon Bamboo Grove! What a magical house and location. Phenomenal views from all rooms in the house and great hiking right from the back door. Eliot is the perfect host, even with our crazy puppy! We were very lucky to be there for the release of a young eagle who spent the summer in rehabilitation after Eliot rescued the eaglet in the spring! Bamboo Grove is a perfect place to relax, hike, and explore Salt Spring Island. We are looking forward to going back soon!

Every sunset is a dream

We had a relaxing 4 week stay at Bamboo Grove. A very spacious, comfortable and clean home. We had lots of privacy but if needed, Eliot was down the drive to help with questions and recommendations on local restaurants, hidden beaches and mountain biking. The house faces West; every sunset is a dream. The library is stocked with games and books and the internet works great if you have remote work to do. The whole house is integrated with nature with forest and ocean views. Access to bike trails is directly out the back door and the Japanese soaker tub with surround widows opens onto the forest. We can't wait to visit again!

Can't say enough good things....house, location, view!

My husband and I had a short but amazing stay at Bamboo Grove (cut short when our daughter at home got very ill with Covid). The house is beautifully designed for relaxation, has everything one might need, is spotless and has the most amazing view. Eliot is extremely friendly and was helpful with everything ...the house, what to do on the island, where to hike... There are acres of beautiful hiking/running/biking trails right behind the house. The location is out of the way and peaceful, yet close to everything one might want to see or do on the island. We really wished we could have stayed longer and will without a doubt book another stay. Thank you so much for everything Eliot!

Wonderful place with a view to die for ...

The house is elegant and well-appointed, and the owner extremely helpful. We stayed for a week (adult couple), with visiting friends staying for a long weekend in the guest suite and studio (6 adults in total). It's been lovingly designed with windows everywhere, and feels individual, light and airy. The Japanese soaker was well-used, and its design and positioning makes you feel like you're bathing in the forest. The views from the front deck across the channel to Vancouver Island are simply stunning, and we spent a load of time kicking back and enjoying the sunsets. It's a short drive to Ganges for supplies, restaurants etc, and the Channel Ridge trails accessed from the back of the house cover a wide range of habitats and views. We'd have no hesitation recommending Bamboo Grove to friends and family.

Don't tell too many people about this special spot

I'm loathe to write how truly magical Eliot's home is for fear that it will be fully booked next time we can make it to Salt Spring. This has to be the absolute best view of Vancouver Island and sunsets on the entire island. One of those homes that you don't feel guilty not leaving because the views are that incredible. Eliot, your host, is kind, friendly, personable and has gone out of his way to provide information and activities to do on Salt Spring. We can't wait to come back. We were in the house during a heat wave and with no AC, we really baked with the house getting up to 88 degrees during the day even with all of the solar shades down. We understand that is very much not the norm (so far) for Salt Spring but something to note if thinking about going in July.

Clean and Beautiful Views

We stayed for 1 month. Beds were pretty comfortable but a few pillows could be upgraded. Rental is very clean. Even with them accepting dogs, there are no weird smells. Even the towels smelled like fresh laundry. And when I stayed I was pregnant, so I had the most sensitive nose. I was initially worried about bugs because it’s surrounded by nature, but the patio doors and windows have screens so you can leave the doors open to catch the breeze without letting mosquitoes in. Doors and windows provide cross breeze on hot days. Views are better in person than the photos. One thing I’d change is the lack of shades on some of the bathroom windows. The forest behind the house is pretty private and to bathe/shower with a view of the trees is relaxing, but, I’d feel more comfortable with shades in the bathroom. The kitchen is stocked with pretty much everything you need including a blender. The cooking utensils could use an upgrade and some organization though. Location is perfect if you’re looking for peace and quiet. Trails behind the house are a huge plus. The trail starting behind the house that connects to the trail system is a bit steep for like 50 meters but it does level off at the top. I did it 5 months pregnant. Trails are marked and maintained well. The owner has a little cottage down the driveway but we never felt he was invasive or being nosy. Still felt really private and he’s a really nice guy. We can’t wait to return!

Remote, quiet and full of nature

Fantastic location and property. We had a relaxing visit! Only tips for others would be to know that there is no hot tub, but rather a large Japanese bathtub. Also, only one shower on the property. Hiking nearby is amazing with Arbutus Tree groves. View is also very nice and you feel like you're in the middle of the woods. One last note would be that many of the windows have no curtains.

Breath Taking Views!!!

This home is simply AMAZING! The views from the porch were stunning. The home was beautiful & spacious. Everything you needed was there and more. The pictures really don't do it justice. Plus the island was a great destination with so much to do. And the cool weather was so appreciated - - - we came from Dallas, Tx, You will not be disappointed if you rent this home.

Treasured Experience ~ Unique Getaway!

This home has thoughtful quality craftmanship throughout as it blends seamlessly with nature. From the electromagnetic off switch in the master bedroom, to the master bath and shower surrounded by windows and stunning forest views. Amazing view

Bamboo Grove is a beautiful place. It is a hike up the steep hill but well worth it. We enjoyed hiking through the trails on the property. The place was very comfortable. We enjoyed some cozy evenings by the fire. The view is breathtaking. We greatly appreciated our host being so accommodating and helpful. We look forward to the next time. We would recommend this wonderful get away.

Pristine Getaway

Bamboo Grove sits on a steep hill near the north end of Salt Spring Island. It is a very well-appointed, clean, spacious, and quiet hideaway. The house itself is lovely, with high ceilings, larger view windows, and nice woodwork. There are 15 km of hiking trails right behind the house, and the views from the hill toward Vancouver Island are wonderful. The kitchen is full appointed, so once you do your grocery shopping, you can hunker in for a retreat. The bathroom off of the primary suite has large windows facing uphill into the woods, so that takes some getting used to. And you will need an AWD to safely make it up the steep road, especially in bad weather. But Eliot, the owner, is helpful and communicative without being intrusive, and the location and property are lovely. It's about a 20-30 minute drive into town, but if you want to feel like you're getting away from it all - while still having all the comforts of home - this is your place. An idyllic island getaway.

Amazing place! Eliot’s house is gorgeous with fantastic views, quiet, spacious and very clean.. Lots of hiking opportunities around the property. Spent an amazing week relaxing, enjoying the peace and beauty of our surroundings. Highly recommend, we look forward to coming back again!!

We moved to Salt Spring in 2005, after living for many years in more urban environments, delighted by the quiet peace of this rural landscape, and the surrounding sea, and built this custom home, and more recently, the guest cottage.

Salt Spring Island, as if hidden behind the "veil of Avalon", feels like a long sought sanctuary after an arduous journey! Numerous organic farms, and incredible natural diversity, among nestled valleys and mountain peaks unusual among the islands, along with several accessible lakes, all surrounded by the inland waters of the Salish Sea, make the silence and the ambiance of the island more than engaging! Mountain biking and hiking trails begin right at the back door, and days of kayak adventures can be initiated only minutes from the house.

What makes this property unique

The house is a very meditative space. It sits high up on a hill overlooking the spectacular mountains of Vancouver Island, and is eye level with an active eagles nest in the front yard. Miles of hiking and biking trails begin at the back door, and the ocean is a short stroll. The gourmet kitchen is the house's equal, with quality appliances throughout, stocked with Iron Clad cookware. The propane based BBQ just outside the kitchen door will help facilitate delicious meals from abundant local farms seasonal offerings (or the farmer's markets).
