FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
DO YOU HAVE WATER ACCESS? No, we do not have waterfront property. Yet the ocean breezes and sounds of the gulls following the lobster boats in the cove can fool you. It is fair to say we have the most spectacular views of the water...better than our lower level neighbors.
IS IT QUIET? Yes, it is very quiet. Our land abuts an old Maine cemetery. Sometimes there are visitors or they mow the grass and you can hear these brief sounds in the distance.
CAN PETS OR CHILDREN PLAY OUTSIDE? We own 10 acres and are situated at the end of a long private driveway. It is quite safe for pets and kids to be outside.
HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM BAR HARBOR? We suggest that folks look at a Google map. But if you can't ...it is about a 25-35 minute drive.
This home offers you everything. Wonderful peace and quiet to meditate, read all those good books, make a fresh seafood meal and completely feel at ease. AND a great base for all the amazing outdoor activities available on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.
You DO deserve a vacation.

Why Carol G Carson chose Tremont
Mount Desert Island is a truly magical place! Acadia National Park is a national treasure.
What makes this House unique
From Acadia National Park website: www.nps.gov/acad/ The First Eastern National Park People have been drawn to the rugged coast of Maine throughout history. Awed by its beauty and diversity, early 20th-century visionaries donated the land that became Acadia National Park. The park is home to many plants and animals, and the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic coast. Today visitors come to Acadia to hike granite peaks, bike historic carriage roads, or relax and enjoy the scenery.

Very difficult to leave!
Our time at L'Acadie was very special. So special that we had difficulty leaving! The house was even more beautiful than the photos - lovely colors, tasteful art, huge number of books, great layout and views galore! There was not one thing we would have wanted changed which is unusual for a HomeAway rental. The house was immaculate, well designed and with all the amenities one would need. Best was the enormous master bedroom with luxurious linens, and stunning view both from the bed and from the walk- out deck. The "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island is THE place to be!!! The house was totally secluded yet a hop, skip and jump from so many activities, Thurston's Lobster pound, hiking, Southwest Harbor, and many Acadia trails. Thank you to our hosts for thinking of every last detail to make our stay perfect. Not one day went by where I didn't said "I want to own this home!!" We'll be back!
Lovely home with Beautiful view
Our stay at L 'Acadie was everything we hoped it would be. The house is very comfortable - everything you need is there. A perfect place to come home to after a day of biking or walking the carriage roads or hiking to a peak. And it was so nice to be able to bring our dog Butch with us. But by far the best part was the upstairs deck with its fabulous view. We began our day there in the morning with our coffee and finished the day there with a glass of wine. Staying at L 'Acadie made this a special vacation. We hope to return in the future.
We just returned from L 'Acadie with such beautiful memories. Our purpose was to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday so I wanted something that was out of the ordinary. We certainly found it at L'Acadie. We traveled with another couple and I was given the privilege of making all the arrangements. I knew from the reviews and the pictures that we wouldn't be disappointed but to see 65 plus year olds get excited about our location and accommodations was a treat in itself. The first evening we had the lunar eclipse and was able to experience that on the upper deck...what a site and start to a perfect week. We did have a lot of rain one day but even that was a good thing as it made us slow down just a bit and enjoy the quietness of the area. There was a great grocery store in South West Harbor, only a few minutes from L 'Acadie for the few things we needed. We had such a great time at a local restaurant too....if you get the chance, stop at Sipps in Southwest Harbor. Another highlight,on a rainy day was Oceanarium, north of Bar Harbor. Be sure to have popovers at Jordon Pond and Lobster stew...and don't forget Lobster at Thurston's about 5 minutes from L'Acadie...We all cannot wait to go back someday.
Beautiful and peaceful home
We loved our stay at L’Acadie this August. We were on MDI at the height of tourist season this year, and staying on the quiet side in the secluded L’Acadie cottage was perfect! We were within easy reach of all of the wonderful things Acadia has to offer, but also got the peace and quiet of this home. Everything here was very nice, but also so homey and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils/pots/pans that we needed to cook. The living space was open and filled with light, but we were often drawn upstairs to the upstairs deck and master bedroom. What an amazing view!!! All in all, the house was clean, comfortable, well stocked, peaceful… and we could go on and on. This was our first trip to MDI, we hope there will be many more, and we hope L’Acadie is available.
Everything was so absolutely perfect all week long. And the weather was great!
We settled in and felt at home immediately. It was restful and exciting at the same time. Each day we'd wake early in the beautiful master bedroom, (sunrise is so early so far east!) and plan where we would hike that day. And off we'd go to Acadia and Bar Harbor for the better part of each day, only to return with delicious lobster rolls and catch the sunset on the deck. We brought our dog Chulie with us and felt so comfortable having her there with us. And she was exhausted from all the adventures. The fireplace was so great for the one rainy evening we had. Such a treat to be there for a week; it was hard to leave. Beautiful place, comfortable in every way. Spacious and cozy, warm and airy. I can't wait to go back and see what a different season feels like at L'Acadie Cottage. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
We love this cabin, and October on the island. We stayed at L'Acadie Cottage in 2009, and this time we were back with our daughter and her family to introduce our 3YO granddaughter to Maine tide pools, lobsters, rocks, hikes, and all the wonderful things about Maine. The cottage, which had been wonderful when just the two of us stayed there, was even more wonderful with all of us staying. The kitchen was perfect for family dinners in the evening, and we really enjoyed the fireplace in the evening. I couldn't recommend this wonderful cottage more -- it's perfect!
Ferry boat rides to surrounding islands (Cranberry Isles, Swan's Island).
The National Park Service has wonderful excursions too!
