Why CLAIRE PERRY chose Owls Head
This cottage has been in our family since I was young and was built as a summer home by the ocean. It was previously owned and occupied (summers) by two wonderful sisters who loved it dearly. It truly has a peaceful, healing quality that appeals to and attracts lovely people; especially artists. A truly unique cottage that hasn't been made to feel like a hotel room or a California beach house. This IS a Maine cottage that has retained all of the charm of a Maine Cottage on the ocean ! There aren't a lot of them left. Very few are available as summer rentals. I think that is what makes Traumerei unique: The amazing location and cottage ambiance....the ocean and nature, at their finest.
What makes this Cottage unique
Spacious lawn area. An absolutely gorgeous pebble beach. A working lobster-boat harbor that is coveted by schooners as a nightly stop-over spot. They will set anchor right in front of the beach. Great kayak launching and swimming beach. Sweet screened porch as well as open side porch and patio...all with ocean views.

Perfect, Beautiful and Wonderful place for our fam
A surprise of loveliness and beauty! Our family arrived and were anxious, but all that went quickly away when we settled in and soaked up this unique and special home. The screen room was absolutely wonderful, and the living spaces were so comfortable. The yard and beach was spacious and private....we couldn't have imagined any place more perfect for our time away. Thank you, Claire!
Perfect cottage for rest and recharge
Traumerei is the perfect cottage to reconnect with family. Claire is so easy and uncomplicated - her charming cottage is a reflection of her spirit. Her fish art is whimsical and fun - truly unique! The cottage is a combination of rustic and captivating - it has everything you need for a magical week by the sea.
My husband was inspired to write this poem as we packed up to leave and reflected upon our stay at Traumerei.
Pink sunrise and silent schooners,
The gentle sounds of a land-tamed sea
with a picture-postcard setting for croquet.
Our little niece writes her name in stones on the beach
Plenty of time and space for solitude
We leave, our batteries recharged.
cozy oceanside retreat
This rental fulfilled all my expectations for hosting an aunties yearly winter get-together. The home was rustic, yet cozy...full of whimsy, and breathtaking views from every window. Despite the frigid temperatures, we were inspired to beachcomb and lapped up the sunshine. Our furry friends also felt right at home, and enjoyed daily walks out to OwlsHead lighthouse, and a jaunt out to Birch Point. Never did make it to the Camden Snowbowl, which offers lots of winter fun, but did find some great sledding hills, and cross country trails up at Beauchamp Point in Rockport. Mostly though, the house was just nice to hang out in, play games and enjoy eachothers company. Great find, lovely owner...highly recommend for a quiet winter retreat with the ocean as your focal point.
We loved our time at Trau...
We loved our time at Traumerie and are making plans to return next summer. The cottage is a very special place -- a work of love; an old lady of the sea that has been restored and updated beautifully. The artist-owner (Claire) is a hoot and a half, and the caretaker (Dave) -- who masterfully re-built much of the cottage -- is very friendly and helpful (and has the cutest three-legged dog named Kareena). We filled the cottage to the brim (4 adults, 4 kids aged 12-16) but always had space. The screened front porch is a slice of heaven, looking down an expansive field to the private beach and waters of Penobscot Bay. The grounds are beautiful; the space is very private; and the Mussel Ridge channel provides a parade of boats, from three-masted schooners, luxury yachts with spinnakers in bloom, to the many lobster boats that use Owl's Head Harbor (an-honest-to-goodness, picturesque, old-style, working lobster port). The many offerings of Rockland, Rockport and Camden are easily reached by heading north on Rt 1, as are Tenant's Harbor and Port Clyde by going south. We felt the cottage was magical inside and out, and was perefctly situated to explore up and down the coast. Because the cottage is close to a working lobster fleet, and the bedrooms face east, most of us were up quite early -- with sun streaming in and the lobster boats motoring out. We did not plan on such early starts; they just happened in keeping with the rhythym of the place. Another unexpected experience was the nearby Owl's Head Lighthouse foghorn -- we all adjusted to the sound, which in a good fog is pretty well muffled. We left with wonderful memories, and with our bodies and souls filled with Maine. We can't wait to go back.
Well...where to begin??? ...
Well...where to begin??? This cottage is one of the most special places we have ever stayed. It is comfortable, cozy, and relaxing. Everything we needed was there. It is just what an ocean cottage should be. I loved the simplicity of it along with the artsy flair. Sitting down by the water was so peaceful. Hunting for "treasures" was very special. The area is nice and quiet. We had the beach just down the road completely to ourselves. Claire (the owner) is a unique, and very warm lady. She made sure we had everything we needed and it was perfect for us. Fresh flowers, beautiful music playing as we arrived, a nice note with suggestions on where to eat, visit, etc. Once you stay at Traumerei you are guaranteed to want to come back. The only negative thing I can say is the time went by too quickly and we had to leave. Traumerei is going to stay in our hearts forever.

My family (2 adults, 3 children and our beloved black lab) spent a delightful week in August at Traumerei. The location was wonderful with views of the water from most every window, a large lawn leading down to the water and a very peaceful and quiet (we never saw another soul) rocky beach with views of the harbor and islands.
The cottage, itself, could not have been more suitable for us. We had brought along a family friend and there was plenty of space to spread out for privacy, while still managing to feel very warm and cozy. The cottage boasts 3+ bedrooms, two full baths, eat in kitchen, large living room, cozy den with fireplace (which we actually used one evening!), a large screened in porch, a sizeable deck, and a wonderful outdoor patio with table and chairs next to the grill.
The cottage was very clean with all the amenities one needs to spend time away from home. (The washer and drier was a definite bonus!) All cooking utensils, coffee pot, towels (in abundance), linens and beach chairs were provided for our comfort.
I would also like to add that we were fortunate to meet the owner of the property as well as the caretaker who were both very accommodating in helping us with any questions we had during our stay, whether it concerned the house or recommendations for restaurants or sightseeing. They were always available, but never intrusive.
We enjoyed our stay so thoroughly that we are hoping to return to this little slice of heaven next summer!
