Owner's Map of Napa
It was a misty February when our family moved to the Napa Valley in 1982. Transplants to Southern California from New Jersey, we longed to have a small rural community to raise our children. What a paradise we found in Napa! Incredible generousity and charity is a signature of wine country, complimenting the breathtaking beauty of the distinct landscape. Making new friends through volunteer work, enjoying the natural surroundings, and making the most of proximity to cultural activities fueled our desire to invite others to our "home".

Dear Roseanne & Bruce, We really enjoyed our Thanksgiving Holiday at your lovely "Highland House". It is perfect for us, nice size, beautifully appointed with everything we need. You have updated it so well, yet keeping some of the details that make it so charming. The location was convenient; we walked to Morimoto's last night for dinner. We visited Humbolt Redwood Park and Point Reyes. Thanks for renting your house to us. Best,

My wife, two young kids and I stayed at the Highland House for a long weekend in late November. We arrived to find a tastefully upgraded and very comfortable two bedroom/one bath house with everything we needed to feel right at home. Highlights include open living/dining room with plenty of windows/natural light with an elevated and covered patio just outside the sliding door. The entire living area is elevated above the street level giving an overall private feel. All amenities were provided including flat screen TV with cable, iron/ironing board, laundry washer/dryer in garage, fully functional kitchen with all plates/bowls/glasses and cooking utensils, dishwasher, granite countertops, etc. Owner/manager was very responsive and there were no issues with our rental agreement/contract. The only concern for future renters would be the proximity to Silverado Trail, which is somewhat of a thoroughfare and passing cars could be heard when the house was quiet. The road traffic slowed down significantly at night and was not a problem for us or our kids who were in the room closer to the road. However, if you are a light sleeper, it may keep you up.

A big thanks to the owners for creating a great stay in Napa. The house was well appointed and had everything we needed. We chose The Highland House as it appeared to be central to all of our activities. It was perfect. Do not miss the Oxbow Market - very easy, short walk, yes walk, to the Market and into town. Thanks again!

My sisters and I just spent a couple of days in Napa for the first time and were lucky enough to find this darling cottage. Full of every amenity you could ever need, completely convenient to downtown district, Oxbow market, and literally ON the Silverado Trail, just minutes from hundreds of wineries! Just bring your clothes and come on in! Kitchen has every appliance, cookware, dishes, utensils you could possibly need (and of course plenty of wine glasses)! Owners leave lots of useful information about the area...maps, brochures, etc. Excellent choice for first timers!!

We stayed at Highland house last weekend and had a wonderful stay! While not officially baby-proofed, we brought our 1 year old and the space was great for him! The owners were nice enough to provide a pack-and-play. Its in a convenient location and the random little Mexican place right around the corner is actually pretty tasty. It is located on a busy street but the car noises didn't bother us a bit. Just bring some ear plugs if you are concerned about it. One thing about downtown Napa..I hadn't been there in years and was really sad to see how many shops, etc. had shut down. So sad. Hopefully it will pick up a bit this summer. We had a fabulous dinner at Celedon...highly recommend it. Thanks Roseanne!
Owner response:Thank you, Melissa. We hope that you will visit The Highland House again soon! The downtown area of Napa continues to evolve and so many changes continue to develop. With the departure of some, comes the arrival of new restaurants, retail merchants, entertainment venues and the growth of "festivals" on the weekends to encourage tourists and locals alike to patronize the downtown and its river front. A brand new visitor center on the riverfront, not very far from The Highland House, is a polished welcoming center for exploring options for activities in the beautiful Napa Valley. The Highland House is just across the Silverado Trail from a niche of the Napa River Trail known as the Oxbow Preserve; we invite our guests to explore the bend of the river there, which will someday (soon?) link the entire riverfront trail for hiking, biking, and such.

We stayed in this home for two nights. There were 4 people and it was just perfect. The house is located in a neighborhood, but very close to restaurants, shopping and all of the wineries. The house is very clean and well equipped. Even though it was a little chilly we sat out on the deck and drank wine. We will definately come back to Napa, and stay again in this home.

We stayed for 3 nights in this beautiful, very comfortable home and enjoyed every minute of it! The home is very cozy and everything we needed was supplied. We stayed in and cooked a few of our own meals which a definite plus over staying in a hotel and not having your own kitchen. This was our first time staying in a vacation home and now we are hooked! The location of the house is great and it is very easy to find. We loved our stay here and will always look back fondly at our time in the Napa Valley and the comfort we experienced at The Highland House. Thanks for everything!

Four of us went to Napa to celebrate my birthday and it was such a perfect place for 2 couples! This was our second trip to Napa but we had stayed in a hotel the first time and being in a house was so much more convenient. The location couldn't have been better, it's right on the Silverado Trail (can be a bit noisy but we come from Chicago so we were used to it!) and very close to the downtown and Oxbow Market which everyone should visit. A wonderful stay in a very nice, clean and comfortable place! Many thanks!!

Two girlfriends from high school and myself met here for some relaxing "catch up" time. The house was perfect in every way. It was clean, beautifully decorated, and a great place to start our days and wind down at night. The full kitchen (with almost everything you need from plates, to glasses, to storage bowls) made it so easy to pack a picnic each day before we headed off to visit a few wineries. The bathroom is spacious and is equipped with items you may have left home (hair dryer, bath gel, etc.). During your stay-make sure you take the short drive to St. Helena. It is a great little town (most everything closes around 5p). Try Rutherford's for dinner. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. Mustard's has the famous Mongolian porkchop that totally lives up to it's name (be prepared for it is pricey). If you are going to splurge-try Balloons Above the Valley. You will not be dissappointed! Ask for Jonathan to be your pilot-he is wonderful! Sift in downtown Napa is a great little cupcakery and they are super nice. You can stop in and make your purchase, drop them off at the house (they are very close by), and return home that night to a fabulous dessert after a day of sightseeing. Beringer Winery was our favorite. They were just so friendly and easy going. Castilla de Amorosa was breathtaking and offered a great tasting experience. Mumm Vineyards is a great place to visit early afternoon. Sit back with some sparkling wine and the wonderful views they offer from their veranda. We had a great time, and would definitely return.
