"SO glad we happened to find this place while surfing the web. We had a wonderful stay, everything was perfect."

Secretly set near Yosemite, this spectacular, creekside, custom-built Tri-Level home is hidden away on 8 secluded acres (TOTALLY private!) and is ideally located between two different entrances to Yosemite, both well under an hour away. "It's PERFECT for a Romantic Getaway or Honeymoon!"

Intriguing architecture adds much to the allure of this amazing place that comfortably accommodates from two, to five guests. SierraScape is beautifully furnished with an eclectic mix of comfort and style, has a FULLY-equipped kitchen with EVERY convenience, large, beautifully done bedrooms as well as the most incredible outdoor patio you have possibly ever seen.

"When we arrived, we thought we'd died and gone to Heaven, when we departed, we knew we'd found Heaven on Earth...WHAT a PLACE!" 2/27/11

THE LIVING, KITCHEN & DINING AREAS...

SierraScape’s living room has Gorgeous, new Oak flooring, high, open-beam ceilings and includes a reclining sofa, several comfortable chairs, the big stone fireplace, Stereo system w/iPod port, TV w/DVD/VCR and extensive satellite channels, including HBO. There is an abundance of board games, an interesting collection of books and novels as well as access out the French doors, leading directly out onto the back deck area and Hot Tub.

This room sits adjacent to the sunny dining area and just beyond that, the arched entrance leads you into the well-stocked, fully-equipped kitchen with modern appliances, gas stove, refrigerator, stainless sink with plumbed, purified RO drinking water, Granite countertops, dishwasher, microwave, multiple windows and a BEAUTIFUL view...

THE BEDROOMS & BATHS...

The large, Master Bedroom is located on the second level and has open-beam, cathedral ceilings & skylight, a Queen bed, loveseat, a vanity/sink and a side door that opens onto its own private deck, leading down to the Spa. The Lodge Room is located on the third level, at one end of the catwalk and has a Queen bed, high open-beam ceilings and several distant views.

The Room With a View is located at the other end of the catwalk, also on the third level and has high, open-beam ceilings, a King-size bed, beautiful view and French doors that lead out onto a private balcony, overlooking the creek. The upstairs, half-bath is also located along the catwalk, separating the two upper bedrooms and allowing for more privacy and convenience.

All three bedrooms are beautifully outfitted with both modern & antique furniture as well as comfortable, quality beds. Each room has a ceiling fan, a sitting/reading area and writing desk, adding to the comfort and solitude of each individual space.

Located on the first floor is the unique, full bathroom with an open, 6' tile shower (it's terrific for two!) which has dual shower heads, multiple windows and private, distant views. It also has a large soaking tub, a real treat! Conveniently, this main bathroom is accessible from common living space as is the half-bath upstairs so no traipsing through someone else's bedroom on your way to the loo ;-).

And OUTSIDE…

You’ll find the incredible, multi-level Sunny Garden Deck that is absolutely, positively fantastic. This area overlooks the boulder filled ITALIAN CREEK and surrounding hills and leads past the spa, up to the garden gate that leads you down a short path, right to the water's edge. The creek is seasonal however there is water running 6-8 months of the year and small pools amongst the rocks year-round.

The full-size Spa is transcendent, it is TOTALLY private & sunken so is easy to get in and out of, EXCEPTIONALLY well-kept, available ALL year long and is incredibly inviting... While just 10 or so steps from the living room door, this Hot Tub is unreal, decadently perched over the creek and under the wide-open, star-studded sky.

"Regardless of how stressed one may be, if they cannot get their mind in a better place sitting out on your deck and listening to nature, they need professional help."

There are two separate table and chair combinations as well as lounge furniture, a vine covered trellis, full feeders that attract a wide variety of birds, a clean Gas Grill and an abundance of flowering pots and native plants that surround you.

** LOCATION **

* 4 hours from Los Angeles
*2.5 hours from the Greater SF Bay Area/San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose International Airports.
* 1 hour from Fresno International Airport
*35 min from Yosemite's Arch Rock Entrance, 50 min to Yosemite Valley
*50 min to Yosemite's South Entrance, (Glacier Point, Wawona & Giant Sequoias etc.)
*10 min to town (Mariposa), 25 min to Oakhurst, 35 min to Bass Lake

SierraScape sits well off Hwy 49 just nine miles south of the town of Mariposa and is ideally located between two different entrances to Yosemite National Park. These two entrance routes (via HWY 41 or HWY 140) offer myriad activities and attractions along the way to the park.

HWY 140, the only “all weather highway”, winds through the Scenic Merced River Canyon and takes you directly into Yosemite Valley, through the “Arch Rock” entrance. The Merced River Rec Area at Briceburg is just a 14 mile drive & has small, private sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing & hiking and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting.

Traveling in the other direction, up HWY 41 outside of Oakhurst will lead you to the south entrance into Yosemite where you’ll find the world famous Mariposa Grove’s GIANT SEQUOIAS, GLACIER POINT, BADGER PASS SKI Area and of course beautiful BASS LAKE with its water sports, beaches and restaurants. In addition, there are some fantastic hiking trails, many that welcome dogs, and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad, really fun!

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2002

~Evan and Jerry at the waterfall, I'm the photographer ;-)~

Jerry and I (Kirsty) are both semi-retired professionals and consider ourselves extremely fortunate to live so close to Yosemite. We are local, managing owners who live a convenient 10 miles away from this home (we do not reside "on-site" at any of our three rental properties, rest assured your stay with us will remain private). We have over 44 combined years living in the Yosemite area and are nearly always available for assistance without EVER being underfoot or intrusive.

**OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE** This home's driveway, unlike MANY in our rural mountain area, is accessed right off a quiet, PAVED country road, something to seriously consider when choosing a vacation rental as you'll likely be making the trip many times... you won't have to navigate miles of steep, rough, un-paved, muddy/dusty or rutted dirt roads to reach this vacation rental and the long, gravel driveway allows for virtually any car, in any weather to easily access the property.

To see MORE PHOTOS, GUESTBOOK entries and OUR TWO OTHER PROPERTIES, please CLICK on the LINK at the bottom of this page, in the "Links to more information" section, right below "RATES".

Hope to see you soon, at SierraScape!!

Why the Owner Chose Mariposa

In 2002, we were left to decide which of our two homes we would live in. It was a difficult decision but we decided to stay where we are now and rather than lose our ability to continue enjoying all of the luxuries of SierraScape (by renting it out full-time, selling was NEVER a consideration as Jerry built it), we thought we'd instead try offering The Scape to vacationers who were looking for an exceptional, discreet and distinguished place to stay, near Yosemite National Park but who also desired to be well away from the crowds once they'd been there.

We are happy and humbled to say that SierraScape has been a HUGE hit as a vacation rental and in the eight years since its inception has become one of the most popular and sought after places in the Yosemite area. As a result, the home is often filled with return guests as they continue to come back, year after year, often alternating seasons so as to experience it anew each time they arrive. It seems, too that people are unable to contain their enthusiasm about The Scape as the number of referrals we receive is astounding...(thanks, everyone!)

~ All emails and phone messages WILL be returned promptly, within 1-12 hours

~ Between TWO and SEVEN night minimum stay required...
~ Minimum number of nights required varies depending upon Season, as well as the number of nights available - PLEASE INQUIRE
~ Security deposits are refundable within 7 days of departure (terms must be met)

Please Visit our HOME SITE (link right below the rates section) for more photos, some great local area information, an incredibly helpful summary of the seasons and our guestbook, kind of fun to read. ;-)

The Unique Benefits of this House

Although a short distance from Yosemite itself, staying at SierraScape (or either of our two other homes) provides visitors a combined element of peace, privacy and affordability that accommodations inside the park cannot.

If you’re looking to be conveniently close to Yosemite but would prefer to not spend your vacation placed in an over-crowded development or conventional hotel then we may have JUST what you’re looking for!

Visit our home site for more photos, local, area info & a helpful summary of the seasons.

Some of the totally unique benefits of staying at SierraScape are, well, the creek, for starters, the sight and sounds of it are incredible.

There's the custom, awesome architecture, especially the catwalk that looks down over the main level, and then there's the shower ;-)... It's really big and shares its space with the soaking tub so you can combine a shower and bath, together if you like, all the while enjoying the wilderness, right out the knee-height windows. Talk about unique.

I know of nowhere else in this area that has anything comparable to The Scape's decadent, lush, blossoming and sunny (some shade) Garden Deck where you'll find your very own, private, full-size Spa, overlooking that mountain creek. SierraScape is favored by the elite and sometimes famous for that very reason, no one knows it's there and the absolute privacy is extraordinary.

Can't neglect mentioning the beautiful stone fireplace that was built from rocks out of the creek, or the firewood we provide. There are also tasteful, comfortable and contemporary furnishings as well as a Non-Toxic, unscented earth-friendly environment and our guests consistently comment on all the "special touches" we've thought of, throughout the house and grounds.

Gold panning in the creek is fun, too and there's more but we don't want to give it ALL away, so please, come and find out for yourself...

"We stayed at the other luxury, Mariposa cabin for our honeymoon but wish we'd chosen this FAR more private, 'owners not on site' gem, instead... A real class act, SierraScape, thanks for the incredibly private, Creekside Anniversary stay!"

Sierrascape is a true gem....

Guest: newlywedhorns (Allentown, PA)
Date of Stay: 11/07/11 Review Submitted: 11/17/11

Our stay at Sierrascape was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I were hoping for a special getaway after seeing the photos and reading the listing, but when we pulled up to it and walked through the front door we were so, so delighted! Not only was the cottage secluded in a beautiful, quiet, natural setting, but every detail of the cottage was just lovely. The layout and furnishings inside and out have the perfect blend of rustic charm, character, and comfort. It is evident the owners have put much thought and care into making each visitor feel at home during their stay. This was the perfect spot to visit Yosemite, and we also enjoyed our trips into town which is only ~10 miles away. We are so excited to visit again - it was hard to leave such a special place!

Loved it. I would go back again ! The owners have done an excellent job with this home. They have provided every detail you can imagine. It is clean and charming. The living room is a little small but the outdoor area is incredible and spacious. We rented this home so we could see Yosemite ...To my delight the property was like a mini-park as well. You cant go wrong with this one.

Owner response:Looking forward to having you three back again, I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy seeing SierraScape in an entirely contrasting season. We appreciate your kind comments and are really pleased that you found the home, and surroundings so to your liking, it's an incredible setting to be sure. Thanks! K & J

Fantastic Honeymoon at SierraScapes

Guest: SerenaS (Cork, Co. cork, Ireland)

This property was beautifully decorated, super tidy, easy to settle into, and had a clean, well maintained hot tub that my new husband and I really enjoyed relaxing in after such a busy wedding! We loved the location of the house- so close to Mariposa and a very easy and gorgeous drive into Yosemite National Park. We really couldn't have enjoyed our time at SierraScapes more!

Owner response:Thanks so much for submitting your review, all the way from Ireland! We were thrilled that you both found The Scape so to your liking and that you enjoyed such a special honeymoon there. We look forward to hearing from you again when you're here in California, you'll be amazed at how different things are with the changing of the seasons! Congratulations, once again ~ K & J

Yosemite Retreat

Guest: Pat (Lincolnshire IL)
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 08/28/11

It's off the beaten path, best to get there in daylight. The owner gave great directions the day before; we also went to two places with great directions. The listing was accurate and the property was clean, with many amenities for those who need computer connections. The property had many extras, such as a washer and dryer, gas grill and hot tub. The owners were available and helpful for questions and directions. We went to Bass Lake, the Merced River recreation area, and multiple trips to Yosemite using the Rt 41 and 140 entrances. We visited, Yosemite Valley, Mariposa Grove and Glacier Point. We ate at Yosemite Lodge and a pizza place with a salad bar that was great. There are 2 good food stores in Oakhurst. I would suggest shopping after you see the house, as many food and paper products are provided. I would recommend this property to anyone who would like to get away from the tourist crowds. We saw chipmunks, finches, deer and hawks. The creek behind the house was dry, but fun to climb around.

Owner response:Well it's good to know that you found our directions to both the house, and surrounding attractions so helpful Pat and also, that you all so enjoyed SierraScape and Yosemite. Good to know, too that the coffee, condiments, bottle of wine, full spice rack and plentiful paper products were to your liking, sorry if you ended up having duplicated some of those items ;-). It was a pleasure having you all at SierraScape. K & J

Wonderful Rental

Guest: Steve B. (Cedar Park, Texas, USA)
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 07/28/11

Our experience with this rental property was nothing less than fantastic! The home is lovely and well appointed, and we immediately felt at home. The property is wonderful as well...clean air, large trees, wildlife, and a beautiful little creek off the back of the house. The spa was a welcome treat after a day of hiking in Yosemite National Park. This home will be the litmus test for all future rentals we stay in. We would recommend this property to anyone, it is truly a jewel.

Owner response:We LOVE hearing that Denise, can't say enough about how much it means to us that your experience with SierraScape was nothing less than "fantastic"! Our cleaning staff appreciates the feedback, too, they work so hard at preparing the home and it's nice to know it's apparent. Thanks for saying so, we sure do appreciate your review. Kirsty & Jerry

A Respite from Reality

Guest: Linda (East Peoria, IL USA)
Date of Stay: 06/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/01/11

From the moment we stepped in the door, we knew it was a haven for rest and relaxation. The description of the home and location were exactly as described on the website. There were so many amenities to enjoy - privacy, peacefulness, the creek, a spa, comfort, the acreage, and furnishings. This property is very well maintained and equipped with everything you may need or may need to know. The owners are extremely helpful with any concerns or questions. We would never hesitate to recommend this property to friends or relatives. Naturally, Yosemite was the main reason we searched this area. in addition to the park, we also enjoyed our day trips to Coulterville, Groveland (a beautiful drive), and Fresno. We discovered the Mariposa Coffee Co. - a "must-stop" if you love coffee, ate at Salvadore's in Mariposa several times (Mexican fare), and attended the local art fair and wine tasting event. All in all, this place is awesome!!!

Owner response:Ahh, Linda, what fun we had having you two as our guests! It means the world to us, knowing that you found our representation of the home and location to be so accurate and we're just thrilled that you both found your stay so interesting, and enjoyable................... We very much appreciate your willingness to recommend us to relatives and friends, and for your having taken the time to post this review. We hope to perhaps have you visit us again someday, but seeing as you came from so far, the memories may have to suffice! ;-) Thanks once again for choosing us and take care ~ Kirsty and Jerry

Not as described!

Guest: peg (Temecula)
Date of Stay: 06/24/11 Review Submitted: 06/27/11

I just returned from spending the weekend at Sierrascape with my Sister and Brother in Law. The owners told me there were 2 bathrooms with one being a Master Bath. The only bathroom with a shower was located upstairs from the Master next to the kitchen. We all had to share the bathroom shower. There is one small powder room between the two upper bedrooms which didn't work. The small air conditioner in the livingroom that barely cooled the downstairs while the two bedrooms upstairs were like an oven til midnight. I had to sleep on the floor downstairs in front of the ac. To top it all off there were three books of strict rules and regulations which were meant to be read upon arrival. We found it all so unfriendly. The home is located off a dirt road also not mentioned and 10 miles from town. Mosqitoes were a nightmare and made enjoying the patio impossible. All in all not worth the money!

Owner response:Wow... We are absolutely amazed at the incredible inaccuracy and unfairness of this spiteful woman's deceitful description of SierraScape. We suppose that as unfortunate as it is, when one offers their vacation homes for long enough, sooner or later something like this is eventually bound to occur. This was our 965th guest in over seven years of renting and never, ever have we encountered such bizarre and vindictive behavior. After an incredibly minor change in her cleaning fee that was in complete compliance with her rental agreement, this woman quite unexpectedly went off the deep end, threatening to report me to VRBO and to Visa. For what, exactly, I wondered but in an effort to avoid what was quickly becoming an unreasonable objection to an agreed upon fee, I immediately refunded her that amount as it certainly wasn't worth the ordeal... that was not good enough... I was abruptly accused of being a "psycho!!" and her retaliatory review immediately followed. As for Peggy's description of the home's layout, I can only assume she did not even BEGIN pay attention to our online listing. We take great pride in providing a complete, and ACCURATE description of the entire home… "Master Bath"? never. It is called a "full bath", which it is, AND we explain exactly which level of the home it is on., the “First floor”. The online description also clearly explains that the 2nd bath is in fact only a "half" bath (which is always in FULL working order, I assure you). And "three books of strict rules and regulations" Huh?? Our "welcome book" is full of local information, restaurant suggestions, coupons, schedules, detailed directions, the few necessary check-out procedures etc., but nowhere are there “strict rules & regulations”, and we have only ONE book, not three. "Located off a ‘dirt’ road". Say WHAT?? This home is in fact located DIRECTLY off a paved, county maintained road & the driveway is gravel, not dirt, ALL the way up to the house. We are proud, managing owners of 3 well-established (since 2004) Yosemite area vacation rentals and are extremely conscientious, treating all of our guests with the utmost respect & consideration. It is our hope that you will take this retaliatory review with a grain of salt and give equal, or greater value to the other reviews that have been thoughtfully submitted by our many, more reliable guests. (you may also refer to VRBO ID's 71178 & 72162 for additional reviews on how we, in truth, do business). K & J

"Little Yosemite" at SierraScape

Guest: Granite (Bay Area, CA)
Date of Stay: 02/02/11 Review Submitted: 02/10/11

Hi Kirsty, We had a wonderful, quiet time at your place with our dogs. The rushing creek and large boulders on your property is like a "little Yosemite." And enjoyed the beautiful surroundings with birds, bright stars in a well designed and unique secluded home. Enjoyed everything about your place! We would love to come back and visit the SierraScape soon :-) Thanks again for providing such a wonderful place to get away. JH

Owner response:You are more than welcome, and thank you both so much for your kind words and for treating the home so nicely. We are always thrilled to learn that yet another of our guests have been pleased with their accommodations and appreciative of the incredible location and setting of SierraScape. Looking forward to your return!
