The Boathouse must be the best bargain on the Island. The tenant gets one private floor that includes all kitchen facilities, comfortable bed, TV, VCR, bathroom, laundry facilities, and more. One can view and hear the ocean from the unit, and walk a very short distance to sit on the shore and observe sunsets and listen to the wave action. The greatest bonus is the free use of surf boards, snorkle gear, beach chairs and towels, fishing rods, and ice chests. All of this at about the same cost of a modest motel room with bed and TV as we travel across the mainland U.S.

We stayed in the Ti Room suite for 5 nights and I wish we could have stayed longer. The room was well lit and airy and felt very spacious for a studio because of the way that it was laid out. The view from the private lanai was gorgeous and the suite had everything that we needed including an outdoor gas grill, tons of beach gear and a fully stocked kitchen. The little snack basket of Hawaiian treats was a welcome sight and we sure did appreciate the cable TV and the free wifi! The suite is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood that is close to beaches and the main highway. Remember to stop by the Koloa Fish Market in Old Koloa Town for some great plate lunches and sweet potatoe pie. Thanks Monica and Steve for making our vacation so fun!

The Seaview Suite was wonderful: clean, bright, comfy, good location on the island. Monica and Steve were excellent hosts -- answering questions when we asked, but unobtrusive even though they live right above the suite. The place actually seemed bigger and more spacious than it appears in the photos. We spent a good deal of time on the lanai (private porch), which had views of the ocean in the distance. We even saw whales while sipping tea one afternoon! Salt Pond and Poi Pu beaches were a short car trip away and offered wonderful snorkeling and swimming with lifeguards to let us know when we ventured too close to churning waters. Ke'e beach on the north side of the island is a must. Grocery stores are easily accessible so we made most of our meals in the suite, buying fresh, local mahi-mahi and packing picnic lunches for a day at the beach. Lunch at the Hyatt in Poi Pu was a special treat as well. We recommend Seaview Suite and hope to return again!

Recently I had the pleasure of an extended stay in the Ti Room. This suite looked just like the pictures on the Website and was very clean, well equipped right down to a new popcorn popper to go along with some DVD's of movies filmed on Kauai. Getting up to the sound of the birds and having my coffee on the lanai while I watched the sea set the tone for my day. Steve and Monica are perfect hosts, available when I needed them to share their knowledge of Kauai, like a good swimming beach, where to shop, etc. I will be going back to visit the Ti Room and Steve and Monica soon

The floor plan of the suite was very good, but everything was shabby and needed a thorough cleaning rather than the apparent surface cleaning. We never saw the hosts but could tell that they had been in our suite when we were gone. There was no washer and dryer as advertised, and no dishwasher. We had a much nicer house on another island for $30.00 less a night than what we paid here.

Owner response: We were totally shaken by this review. This is the first time anyone has mentioned cleaning in a negative light. To the contrary, most guests compliment Monica for her meticulous attention to detail and cleanliness in general. We try not to intrude on our guests’ privacy, and occasionally will not meet them, as in this case. Some like things that way, while others come to our door or call on the phone. Some have become long-term friends. We did enter the suite one time only, to discreetly retrieve the lodging payment left for us. There most certainly is a washer and dryer, as we built a new laundry facility in November for our guests’ exclusive use. Had they called or knocked, we would have told them it is under the Seaview Suite lanai. We do not advertise a dishwasher in the suite. Perhaps these people did find a bargain on another island. Prices vary between the islands, and we have no way to make a comparison. We are priced in the low end of comparable units on Kauai. We feel that we offer clean, comfortable lodging for a very reasonable price. Upon meeting, our current guest stated as much, and complimented us for the many personal touches we include as well

Our first trip to Kauai and we sure did feel at home in the Boathouse. Steve and Monica thought of everything, including a thoughtful little welcoming basket of goodies. The unit was very clean and comfortable and well kitted out with beach chairs, masks, snorkles, fins, coolers, beach towels, etc. There was a great assortment of guide books and CD/DVDs . We enjoyed our own barbecue and had everything we needed for meal prep. It was nice to have a washer and dryer, especially after hiking in the canyon. What a great place to stay. This studio unit is very bright and spacious including a nice sized bathroom with plenty of towels and toiletries. Mahalo, Steve and Monica, your personal touches made our stay very enjoyable.

We had a great eleven days in the Ti' Room! Clean? Very! Immaculate! Although small (it is a suite), everything you might need is there, along with plenty of privacy! We cooked all of our meals there, so that we'd be able to spend our budget on DOING more things in Kaua'i. A large grill on the private lanai, with outdoor seating as well as indoor seating for meals, toaster-oven, microwave, electric appliances for everything, we were not limited in what we might cook! The hosts left treats for us, so when we arrived there were snack packages and cold Hawaiian beverages in the refrigerator and several other Hawaiian treats to last us for a while! We enjoyed the area, quieter than some tourist areas, yet close to everything. Thanks, Monica & Steve for sharing your little bit of paradise with us!

This was our first trip to the islands and we think we found the best rental on the first try! We only wish we could give the Boathouse more than 5 stars, because it deserves more. Steve and Monica are wonderful hosts who were more than willing to share their Kauai experience with us. The Boathouse has everything you could possibly need for your island vacation. Plenty of beach gear, plenty of room and a beautiful location right next to the beach. And friendly geckos too! There are lots of towels and the washer/dryer are very conveniently located. All of this on the sunny west side of the island in a peaceful neighborhood. If we get the chance to come back to Hawaii, it will be the Boathouse on Kauai for us! Big thanks to Steve & Monica!

My boyfriend and I stayed in a timeshare with a few family members for a week and we extended our stay for 3 nights here in the Ti Room. We wanted out of the resorty Poipu and Kalaheo is a cute town. They have a great steakhouse!!! I highly recommend it!!! The studio was a studio and having lived in one we knew what to expect.... it's small. However, we were able to cook, have coffee with the singing birds before going surfing and retire with the comfort of a necessary ammenities.... especially the ceiling fan! The price was right and we were very happy with the stay. : )

We have stayed numerous times at The Boathouse since 2004, once for 6 weeks but always several weeks at a time. We cannot brag enough about the location, the very clean studio, the privacy and Steve & Monica - owners. They are the BEST hosts and provide everything you need to make your stay wonderful. You cannot beat the price for excellent accommodations only 1/2 block from the beach. Incredible sunsets on the beach!!!!
