Beautiful, peaceful home in the perfect location. Located in beautiful, quiet Bass Harbor. Bedroom upstairs was perfect for my kids and they had their own bathroom. Located right near the water made for incredible early morning and evening views. House had everything we needed to feel at home. We walked to the nearby ferry and visited Swan Island for the day. Perfect vacation. The hosts were wondering and caring.

Perfect size and layout for our group of 4, offering comfortable group space, but ease to have privacy when desired. Ocean breeze, sunrise and sunset, lots of natural light are nature’s offerings.Sea rose has all the conveniences of home in working order:Laundry, dishwasher, 2 full bathrooms, gas grill, deck. There is no air conditioning but we were there during a heat wave and between the breeze and the available fans, we were comfortable. My husband is wheelchair bound. The ramp to front door and fully accessible first floor including deck made our stay possible. Just be aware that It is not ADA compliant with grab bars for toilet or bath and doorways are standard and passible with care but not extra wide. The neighborhood provides a taste of traditional Downeast Maine in its timeless charm. A couple of family oriented seafood restaurants, neighbors with charming gardens and honor system pie stands, the roads are twisty and narrow, the lobster boats rumble out of the harbor around 5 am and the seagulls rule the low tide mudflats.A bit of a drive to Bar Harbor. For the most part, we tried to enjoy the quiet side of MDI.Sea snd freshwater kayaking, a sail trip out of Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor light,Wonderland & Ships Harbor trails early in the am.Our family would definitely recommend this property.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful and detailed review. We are so grateful that you chose Seaside Rose for your family’s stay and that you took the time to share not only your experience at the house, but also what makes this corner of Mount Desert Island so special. It means a lot to hear that the layout, ocean breezes, natural light, and accessible first-floor spaces helped make the home a comfortable place for your family. We appreciate you sharing the details about your husband’s wheelchair accessibility needs as well. While Seaside Rose was not built to full ADA standards, we are always grateful for feedback that helps future guests understand the home’s features and limitations clearly. We especially loved your description of the “quiet side” of MDI. The early morning lobster boats, the gardens, the pie stands, the winding roads, and the rhythm of a traditional Downeast community are exactly the things that make this area so memorable. It sounds like you embraced the slower pace and found some wonderful adventures around the island. Thank you also for sharing your beautiful sunset photo. Those oceanfront moments are some of our favorite parts of Seaside Rose, and we are delighted you got to experience them. We would be thrilled to welcome your family back anytime!

We loved this place! The house is in a beautiful spot right on the harbor. It was fun to watch the tide come in and out. It is a very clean and well appointed house with comfortable beds and it had everything we needed. We enjoyed staying on the “quiet” side of Mt. Desert Island. Wonderful location

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The views are wonderful and the house was clean and had everything we needed. Excellent proximity to the lighthouse and Seawall where I photographed the sunrise, sunset, and Milky Way. Can’t beat rolling out of bed and driving only 5 minutes to these southern points. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Thanks for the great review Robin. It's true! The quiet side of the island is filled with gorgeous places, many of which aren't as crowded as those closer to downtown Bar Harbor. The Bass Harbor lighthouse is the BEST place on the island to catch the sunset! I'm so glad to hear you captured such memorable photographs! - Amber

Nice Place to Stayu

We had a great time and the house was as advertised. The only negatives were the weather that had some showers but the owner can't control the weather. Nice views of the harbor and we enjoyed seeing the tides fill the "pond" and then draining it. It is very near some nice places to walk and see the Maine Coast. We had a very fine stay.

Thanks for the review Peter! It is such a bummer when you're in an outdoor destination and the weather is poor. For our future guests who are caught in the rain, I love to get out on the trails when it's a bit drizzly - I basically have the whole park to myself! Another great rainy day activity is to take a Paddle Board trip with Acadia SUP located in downtown Bar Harbor. In the summer, it's often warm enough even in the rain, and on the paddle boards you can get in and out of the lake and really enjoy being wet! For indoor activities I recommend the Seal Cove Auto Museum, the Abbe Museum, the Bar Harbor Historical Society, the George Dorr Museum of Natural History, the Sieur de Monte Nature Center, or the Great Harbor Maritime Museum. - Amber

Very nice little house right on the water. We thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the lobster boats come and go. The house had all the necessities and was a very nice "home base" during our trip. The bbeds were all very firm but easily remedied with a few foam mattress toppers. We will return again!

Family vacation!

Our family of six stayed at this house as we were there to hike Acadia national Park. The house is spotless, and a very accessible area, and had outdoor space to play spike ball in cornhole and ride bikes. We did the nature tour right in our harbor, went to Thurston’s the yellow building right across the harbor and visited the boat museum. Our only suggestion would be furniture upstairs that you can sit on to hang out that is a little bit more comfortable than two chairs. The teens wanted their own space to hangout together. The neighbors were fantastic and even let our kids hold their parrot, Uno. We would 100% book again..

Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful review! We love hearing how your family enjoyed not only Seaside Rose, but also the unique experiences that make Bass Harbor such a special place. From spike ball and bike rides in the yard to exploring the harbor, visiting Thurston’s, and even meeting Uno the neighborhood parrot, it sounds like you truly embraced the slower pace and local charm of the area. We’re so glad the home was a comfortable and welcoming place for your family after days of hiking and exploring Acadia. We also appreciate your helpful feedback about creating a more comfortable upstairs gathering space for teens. That’s a great suggestion, and we’re always looking for ways to make Seaside Rose even more enjoyable for our guests. Thank you for choosing our family-owned home. We would be delighted to welcome your family back for another MDI adventure!

Great location, lots to offer!

We spent a week at Seaside Rose last week of July. Weather was perfect! It was a great location for our family to have activities near by (Island Cruises, National Park kayak rentals, hikes, restaurants) and downtime fun at the house (exploring at low tide and floating around at high tide). It’s 30 minutes to get to most spots in Acadia, but it was worth having a variety of options to explore for the week without the crowding of Bar Harbor. We went to the park several days, used the free bus option from the visitor center to avoid parking issues. The house was clean, had great views of the sunset and was perfect for our family of 4 (kids had whole upstairs)

Quiet, beautiful and peaceful!

We loved our stay in Bass Harbor, the "quiet side" of Acadia National Park. The house has a wonderful view of the harbor and the sunsets from the deck are lovely! The photos online do not do the house justice. The house is much better, with the entire living and dining room windows facing Bass Harbor. The house has nice decor and a fully stocked kitchen and laundry room. Good location to SW Harbor and just down the street from the lighthouse. If you're into hiking, don't miss hiking up to the fire tower at the summit of Beech Mountain. Incredible views of the Cranberry Islands, Bartlett Island and Long Pond. Picturesque picnic spots at the Seawall, just about 5 minutes from the house. These accommodations and Acadia National Park highly recommended!

Quiet, beautiful view

This home was very cute in the quiet area on Bass Harbor. We did several Acadia hikes, went to Bar Harbor took the ferry to Swan’s Island and road ebikes and went to Cadillac Mt. We were pretty active and even enjoyed the rainy days. Communication and check in was easy. Local restaurants are very quaint with good food. The downside is the overall comfort. The master bed caused back pain for my husband and I. He slept on the sofa. You can feel the springs when you lay down. The decorative chairs in the LR feel like boards. The view is great with seating arranged around windows, but relaxing at the end of a long hike did not happen. We had our 3 sons 15+ with us and we could not all be in the living room in comfort. We often separated and and all went to different rooms to lay down. We tried to keep busy and only sleep and make meals in the house. The sofa is very comfortable, but not big enough for 5. I did appreciate the views out the windows and the well stocked kitchen/bathroom. Overall, if there were some comfort changes, I would consider staying again. If you have any type of back or neck issues, it could be an issue for you. I am currently home and icing my back.

AMAZING!!!

This property was AMAZING! First, let me say kudos for the perfect communication. We had all we needed to find the property (excellent directions) and gain entry and enjoy our stay. The property was MORE than expected regarding location and amenities! We fell in LOVE the "quiet" side of the island and being able to see the bay. Sleeping with windows open and smelling the salt air and hearing the bay sounds were wonderful The décor was so homey and beautiful and made Seaside Rose perfect. I took some ideas back for my own home But truly, what amazed me more than anything was the cleanliness of the home. I have stayed in lots of accommodation's through the years in my travels, and am always a bit leery and prepared to clean if needed upon arrival. But Seaside Rose was spotless! Please pass on to your crew how impressed I was with their diligence, you could tell they took pride in their work! I would LOVE if they lived closer as they would be a blessing to have in our area! I have never felt more at home, and at ease than at Seaside Rose. I traveled with my mother, and knowing that we both were comfortable in the space (first floor accommodations were perfect for her) set my mind at ease and allowed us to be excited to come "home" each evening. THANK YOU for the perfect stay in sweet Bass Harbor, Maine. If we are every blessed to go back to the area- Seaside Rose would be my top choice!

About the host

Hosted by Amber

Host profile image
Seaside Rose is owned by Peter and Valerie, 30-year island residents and managed by their daughter Amber.

A message from the owners - Having lived on Mount Desert Island most of our lives, we can say that it is sometimes easy to take for granted all that we have here. But when we begin to describe all that the Island has to offer a visitor we remember just how lucky we are to live here. The mountains, the sea, the woods, lakes, and the people make this one of the most unique and enjoyable places we have ever known. We hope you will take full advantage of what Mount Desert Island has to offer your visit

Why they chose this property

Mount Desert Island has been home to our family for many years, and Seaside Rose represents a long-held dream of having a place where we could truly enjoy and share the beauty of this special corner of MDI.

We chose this neighborhood because of its peaceful, authentic Downeast character. This is a working harbor where lobster boats head out in the early morning, neighbors know one another, and the pace of life follows the rhythm of the tides. It’s a place to slow down, enjoy the view, and experience a quieter side of MDI while still being close to Acadia National Park and the island’s many attractions.

For our family, being on the water has always been special. We hope guests enjoy the same simple pleasures that drew us here: watching boats pass by, listening to the sounds of the harbor, exploring the coastline, and ending the day with a beautiful sunset over the water.

What makes this property unique

What makes Seaside Rose unique is the opportunity to experience authentic coastal Maine right from your doorstep. This oceanfront cottage sits directly on Bass Harbor, a traditional working harbor where guests can watch lobster boats head out in the morning, sailboats drift by, seabirds gather along the shoreline, and the sunset paint the water each evening.

Seaside Rose allows guests to truly experience the rhythm of the harbor from multiple spaces throughout the cottage, including the outdoor deck, open-concept living area, and upstairs sitting area.

As a family-owned home, Seaside Rose is thoughtfully cared for and reflects our family’s deep connection to this special place. We hope guests enjoy not only the beauty of the views, but also the peaceful, authentic Downeast Maine experience that makes Bass Harbor so memorable.
