Located in the small town of Jenner, Sonoma County, California, our riverside house boasts river access and a quiet, yet central coastal location perfect for river, ocean and wine country exploration. Numerous activities abound nearby including kayaking & boating, beaches, wildlife viewing, hiking, golf, wineries, gourmet restaurants and much more! Whether you are looking for the perfect place to curl up with a book or to experience the bounties of California wine country, you'll find it here!
Why stay here and not elsewhere?: We believe that details make a difference, so we supply several complimentary extras to add to your enjoyment of the property. There will be a bottle of local wine and chocolates, seasonal decor, and what you might need to enjoy a day at the beach. We include beach bags with towels, mats, and frisbees. Also, special occasion extras upon request.
The Viking House is a prime location to enjoy the Sonoma County coast. While Bodega Bay is often foggy and grey, it's been our experience that Jenner generally gets more hours of sunshine, even in the winter. Although it's not unusual to see fog in the mornings in all four seasons, the weather remains pleasant throughout the majority of the year. In summer, it's bright with warm sun, but, with gentle ocean breezes, it remains much cooler than inland areas.
Russian River: Kayaking and canoeing are some of the best ways to experience the river. Just down the street from the house, you can rent a kayak and experience a whole different perspective of the town and the surrounding hills. Paddle around Penny Island, go to Goat Rock beach or get up close and personal with birds and seals fishing in the mouth of the river. When you get tired, you can bring the kayak up to shore at the house and rest before heading out again. Once you've explored the areas around Jenner, you can head upriver to Duncan's Mills and Guerneville where you can also rent equipment to enjoy redwood views in slower moving waters. For more details about the area and our home, visit our website, see link below.
Bodega Bay: A visit to the bustling fishing community of Bodega Bay will be a highlight of your stay. On the way, you can stop at a variety of beaches, including Shell beach, one of the best places to explore wildlife in Tidal pools and study interesting geological rock formations. When you get to Bodega Bay, exploring the shops, art galleries and fine restaurants is a pleasant way to enjoy the area. Also, many coastal adventures can be arranged. You can book and rent gear for all kinds of fishing and watersport outings, including deep sea fishing, whale watching (in season), surfing and more. Horse lovers will enjoy riding on the beach through Chanslor Stables. Golfers will relish memorable views while hitting a round at Bodega Harbour Golf Links, an 18 hole Scottish links style course. Film buffs will enjoy taking a short drive inland to the town of Bodega where Alfred Hitchcock filmed the classic movie, 'The Birds.'

A serene place to hide from the world
This a perfect getaway. I sat on the porch just admiring nature and played in the Russian river. Recommend for 2 to 3 people max. Would totally recommend to my friends and family. For dog lovers, things to know. my boys loved there swim in the Russian river. Homes are extremely close so neighbors porch is two steps from stairs. Which means you need strong recall command as there is no way to prevent them from being dogs especially if there off leash to swim. bedroom and showers is access from an outside staircase or inside narrow spiral staircase. So I slept in the cozy rocking chair upstairs with my two dogs to give them easy access at night to relieve themselves instead of them walking in the dark up and down the outside stairs. The house is on a hill but that’s why the view are incredible.
Thoroughly Enjoyed Our Stay
Relaxing is not hard to do at the Viking House. You can't beat the view. The house was comfortable and well appointed. It was also well suited to having a dog. We walked down to Cafe Aquatica, ordered sandwiches and brought them back to enjoy on the deck. We usually stay in Bodega Bay but were happy to be in Jenner as the sun definitely shone more in this location. We had an enjoyable dinner at River's End. We explored Guerneville and discovered some delicious pies at Chile Pies Baking Co. Duncan Mills was also fun to explore. We did a little shopping and had a yummy brunch at Cape Fear Cafe.
Perfect getaway with excellent views!!!
We loved everything about the Viking house, the setup of the place, the location and the 2 large decks overseeing the Russian river!
would come again in a heartbeat
This lovely house had everything one could need/want, and location was stunning!
Relaxing and beautiful
Very clean, roomy, great views of the river and ocean, dish TV and wifi that works! Well-stocked kitchen. Comfortable bed. Quiet. Treats and toys for our dog. Champagne waiting in the fridge! No complaints. My husband and I will definitely return!
Great time and Lovely house on the river
We had a great weekend and look forward to returning again. Thanks!
Located at the mouth of the Russian River, the small town of Jenner is an excellent place to get away from it all, while still enjoying proximity to Sonoma County attractions. Goat Rock beach is only minutes away and is an excellent place to walk and view coastal wildlife. Drive along Highway 1 for dramatic views and visit dozens of other unique beaches or see historical Fort Ross State Park. The bustling community of Bodega Bay is about 15 minutes south and offers a wealth of coastal tourist activities like fishing, golfing, surfing, whale watching, restaurants, and much more. About 10 minutes inland, you'll find the quaint village of Duncan's Mills, which hosts fun summer weekend events like civil war days, a rodeo, and an arts festival. Drive 20 minutes further and reach the larger community of Guerneville, home of the must-see towering redwood trees in Armstrong's Woods. Here you can also experience weekend concert events featuring A-list Jazz and Blues musicians each summer. Other Activities: kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, shopping, art galleries
