Property type farmhouse

Overview

About the property

Farmhouse, 6 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

This Saltwater Farmhouse is a classic 130+ year-old clapboard house with attached barn on 80 private acres, including woods and a hay field gently sloping to the rocky Maine coast. Reminders of its days as a working farm can be found in the carefully maintained barn, including stalls and antique farm equipment. The farm equipment is displayed in the barn with safety fencing to protect small curious visitors. Bicycles of all sizes, ping-pong, croquet, badminton and lawns large enough for soccer and baseball games will provide plenty of 'at home' activities. Cooking out can be on the deck or a short walk to grill on the rocks.

Located on St. George Peninsula between the fishing villages of Tenants Harbor and Pt.Clyde, you are only a short distance from popular restaurants, kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking, beaches, movie theaters, antique & novelty shops, Marshall Point Lighthouse, which was seen in the movie Forrest Gump, and ferries to nearby scenic islands. In nearby Rockland, the Farnsworth Museum with its collection of Wyeth paintings , is well worth a visit.

The farmhouse has 6 bedrooms, so there's plenty of room for family & friends. The dining room seats 10-12 for fun family dinners. The living room's lovely natural light make this a cozy room for quiet reading by the fireplace. A forced air furnace keeps you warm on cool Maine evenings. The back deck is just the place to begin your day, as you look across the hayfield to the ocean. Watch the local lobstermen as they check out their traps, then head into town to pick up fresh lobster for dinner.

The farmhouse can be your base as you explore the beautiful state of Maine, including Acadia Park to the north and Freeport with infamous L.L.Bean's to the south.

About Maggie & Bill Lang

Bill's family purchased this home in 1959 with many summers spent enjoying the Maine coast, big family dinners, playing on the rocks and antiquing, all contributing to family memories. Our children have grown up spending parts of every summer here and we continue to enjoy coming in early summer for family reunions. Sitting on the back deck at the beginning & end of each day and long walks have become some of our favorite activities.

Love everything about the farmhouse. It is charming, secluded and spacious for family time. I will keep going back. The owners are awesome to work with. They are as lovely as their home.

Amazing place!!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at the beautiful Farmhouse! Plenty of comfy beds for the family-well organized kitchen and loved the barn. Very much enjoyed the nature we saw along the walk through the field to the rocky coastline--saw Ospreys, seals-visited the Marshall Point lighthouse close by. Thanks so much for making our stay so comfortable and enjoyable!!

This Side of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Magical oceanfront setting and a unique historic farmhouse. Our family spent a wonderful week at this Maine saltwater farm. The house is charming and well kempt given its age. The basketball court in the grand barn is unique. The ocean setting is magnificent. We rented a boat and docked it at Tenants Harbor for the week, as a deep water dock is not available on this coast given the waves. A grand setting for family to be together and a good base for travel to Acadia, Monhegan Is., the inland mountains, and beautiful towns along the coast like Camden. Great restaurants nearby in Tenants Harbor and just a few miles down to Port Clyde.

The house is clearly beloved and deservedly so. Pless Family Atlanta

Large, beautiful, peaceful home!!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful 7 nights at the farmhouse with 4 of us (my husband and I and our 2 sons (age 9 and 5). We had a plethora of room and plenty room for more! :) The mosquitoes and ticks were quite bad, so make sure bug spray is kept handy. But that did not detract from our amazing experience on the St. George Peninsula. We enjoyed the activities in the barn, loved the view of the water and the walk to the rocky beach, and we took advantage of the nearby communities (Tenants Harbor, Pt. Clyde, Thomason, Rockland, etc) in planning extra activities for our days. We did a lobster boat tour in Rockland, which I would highly recommend. Just don't pack your days too full, because you won't want to miss relaxing in the farmhouse and cooking in the kitchen! Maybe someday we'll be back...if only Nebraska wasn't 1500 miles away :-).

Owner's Response: Annette, Thank you for your review and we're so glad that you enjoyed your time in Maine. We haven't done the lobster tour and glad to hear that your family enjoyed it. Our sons, now grown, still love the barn activities, especially playing basketball. We definitely are on the lookout for ticks and have found that bug spray around the bottom of pant legs is very effective. Hope that you return as guests again if Maine is ever in your future plans. Best wishes, Maggie & Bill

Tenant Harbor and Pt. Clyde areas are beautiful in scenic views and ocean/fishing activities. Ferry trips to the islands offer a different landscape and glimpse into island life. We love the quiet peaceful times on the farm , reading by the fire, playing games or sorting out puzzles, walks to the ocean and cookouts on the rocks.
