Overview

About the property

Farmhouse, 6 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

This Saltwater Farmhouse is a classic 130+ year-old clapboard house with attached barn on 80 private acres, including woods and a hay field gently sloping to the rocky Maine coast. Reminders of its days as a working farm can be found in the carefully maintained barn, including stalls and antique farm equipment. The farm equipment is displayed in the barn with safety fencing to protect small curious visitors. Bicycles of all sizes, ping-pong, croquet, badminton and lawns large enough for soccer and baseball games will provide plenty of 'at home' activities. Cooking out can be on the deck or a short walk to grill on the rocks.

Located on St. George Peninsula between the fishing villages of Tenants Harbor and Pt.Clyde, you are only a short distance from popular restaurants, kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking, beaches, movie theaters, antique & novelty shops, Marshall Point Lighthouse, which was seen in the movie Forrest Gump, and ferries to nearby scenic islands. In nearby Rockland, the Farnsworth Museum with its collection of Wyeth paintings , is well worth a visit.

The farmhouse has 6 bedrooms, so there's plenty of room for family & friends. The dining room seats 10-12 for fun family dinners. The living room's lovely natural light make this a cozy room for quiet reading by the fireplace. A forced air furnace keeps you warm on cool Maine evenings. The back deck is just the place to begin your day, as you look across the hayfield to the ocean. Watch the local lobstermen as they check out their traps, then head into town to pick up fresh lobster for dinner.

The farmhouse can be your base as you explore the beautiful state of Maine, including Acadia Park to the north and Freeport with infamous L.L.Bean's to the south.

About Maggie & Bill Lang

Bill's family purchased this home in 1959 with many summers spent enjoying the Maine coast, big family dinners, playing on the rocks and antiquing, all contributing to family memories. Our children have grown up spending parts of every summer here and we continue to enjoy coming in early summer for family reunions. Sitting on the back deck at the beginning & end of each day and long walks have become some of our favorite activities.

Magical property, great for a group stay

  • 5 of 5

We've spent NYE at the Farmhouse for 2 years in a row now. I can't say enough about this place!

Totally spacious for 10 people. We cooked all of our meals at the house - cookware and dish ware is plentiful. We spent our days hanging out by the fire in the living room (plenty of chopped wood available), playing ping pong and basketball in the barn (it's decorated with christmas lights which make for a really cute environment in the evening), and walking out to the ocean. Maggie is a wonderful host, super responsive. I highly recommend this property for any type of stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Christine. We are delighted that you had a nice visit at the Farmhouse over New Years. We have also enjoyed having family & friends gather together for fun meal prep adventures, basketball contests & ping pong tournaments. Glad you were able to include those also. Walking to the shore and watching how the ocean changes throughout the day is also one of our favorite pastimes. We hope that you'll visit again next year and thank you for taking the time to send in a review. Best regards, Maggie

Perfect for pre-wedding festivities

  • 5 of 5

We rented the farmhouse to accommodate family and friends for a week in anticipation of our son's wedding nearby. It was perfect for our needs. We hosted the rehearsal dinner in the barn, a wonderful indoor space that easily held the 30 or so guests (we rented tables and chairs from a nearby service). The bedrooms were very comfortable, the kitchen well appointed, and all of us who stayed at the farmhouse enjoyed relaxing on the deck and wandering down to the ocean. The owner and caretaker were very helpful and gracious, and the farmhouse was in perfect order when we arrived. We recommend this highly for small gatherings of family and friends, and for anyone who likes a quiet retreat on the Maine coast that is close to Rockland and its restaurants, activities and the Wyeth museum.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review. We have also found it a wonderful location for family reunions with walks to the shore being a favorite activity. We also enjoy having a cookout on the rocks with the set up of the rocky campfire being the older children's responsibility. They loved roasting marshmellows, which usually led to some version of s'mores! Maggie

Paradise in Maine

  • 5 of 5

Maine Saltwater Farmhouse was the perfect start to our vacation in New England for our group of eight. Everything was perfect right from the start, fresh bowl of fruit on the table to the fresh flowers in every room, lovely furnishings and comfortable beds and fresh linens . Everyone in our group said the farmhouse was their favorite place that we stayed on our 2 week vacation, they felt like they were at home. The farmhouse was very clean, well organized and well equipped in the kitchen. Thank you for letting us having a piece of your paradise.

A delightful vacation

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our children, their spouses and our grandchildren at the farm in August. We enjoyed every aspect of our week vacation. The kitchen was well equipped. Beds comfortable. All the CDs available for the children early in the morning were appreciated especially by the adults. Our evenings spent on the back deck and our daily walks through the fields so enjoyable and the barn was wonderful for the little ones to ride bikes. Our entire family found many things to do away from the farm. A wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary and a very enjoyable week for the family. Thank you for sharing this lovely farm.

Magical

  • 5 of 5

The saltwater farmhouse is absolutely magical. The view of the ocean across the field is outstanding. We absolutely fell in love with this property. The weather was perfect and we just relaxed and walked to the rocky coast periodically to check out the tide pools and otherwise just enjoyed the ambiance. Our dogs loved the wide space to run and the swims in the ocean. The puffin tour leaving from Port Clyde is a must do if you are there at the right time of the year. Bring supplies because Rockland seems to be the closest sizable grocery store and it is a 30 minute drive at least.

Beautiful and peaceful sanctuary in Maine

  • 5 of 5

I recently spent a week at the farmhouse. It was simply lovely- so peaceful and serene. The farmhouse is a treasure and is well equipped to house parties of 1-12 or more. The house is warm, welcoming, cozy, and well-kept. Each day, my two dogs and I ventured down to the water. The youngest enjoyed the romp through the mowed field, as it provided the perfect setting for some excellent frisbee time, which is his absolute favorite past-time. The view down by the water is quite breathtaking. One could easily spend hours down on the rocks. I found it difficult to leave the water each day. It beckons you. I saw lots of wild turkey, deer, and an abundance of birds during my stay. Spring was definitely in the air and was such a nice time to visit. The bugs have yet to arrive, it's still nice and cool, and the crowds haven't emerged upon the Maine coast. The house is a short drive from Thomaston, Rockland, and Owl's Neck, yet you feel as if you are in your own little magical world. The cute little towns of Port Clyde and Tenant's Harbor are each right down the road. Make sure to check out Marshall Point lighthouse too, a short drive away.

Tenant Harbor and Pt. Clyde areas are beautiful in scenic views and ocean/fishing activities. Ferry trips to the islands offer a different landscape and glimpse into island life. We love the quiet peaceful times on the farm , reading by the fire, playing games or sorting out puzzles, walks to the ocean and cookouts on the rocks.
