• Well equipped and one of the most popular homes on the Island - over 75 excellent reviews!

Coquina Cove is your very own private tropical oasis in the sun. This wonderful, very well kept, two bedroom, two bath lagoon-front home offers great Gulf and water views from every room, warm Gulf breezes and your own private dock. Decorated in a tropical island style you’ll enjoy quiet walks down the beach with hardly a person in sight!

No crowds here, just miles of unspoiled, 100% natural Florida (the way it used to be!). World renowned shelling, fantastic sunsets, bird watching galore, kayaking right out the back door, dolphins, gopher tortoise, and a lively lagoon where fish jump all day long. Don Pedro State park is a short walk down the beach. You’ll want to capture the Island’s charm by traveling via golf cart, we rarely use cars here. Golf cart rental is available.

Bring your boat or rent one for the ultimate in Florida lifestyle. The private dock will accommodate a single boat up to 22 feet. Like to fish? Fish right off the dock or try your luck surf fishing or book a charter with one of the local guides for a thrilling day of sport fishing or backwater challenges. Trout, Redfish, Snook, Tarpon and Grouper are just a few of the many species that call our waters home.

Don Pedro Island (Palm Island) is a barrier island and a stones throw from the mainland. You’ll arrive via a short car ferry ride that takes about three minutes. Our island has a terrific resort that offers a casual restaurant, ice cream/deli shop, sundries store and a pirate show for the kids. The island is almost all single family homes so you’ll quickly find it has a pristine 'non-commercial” family feel. There are no large high-rise resorts, beach bars or traffic and noise. If you’re looking for that place in the sun that you can actually hear the wind whistle through the palms - you’ve found your place.

Off island you’ll be close to restaurants, shops, golf courses and world famous Boca Grande as well as other attractions. As we like to say... civilization is close but not too close. Boca Grande offers exclusive shopping, dining and sightseeing. By boat you can reach Cayo Costa Island State Park and Cabbage Key where Jimmy Buffet was inspired to write 'Cheeseburger In Paradise.' Do it all, or do nothing at all, that’s the “island” lifestyle. It’s laid back, always casual (leave your tie at home) and Florida at its best.

Sleeps four - five comfortably. No smoking. Pets allowed with owner's permission, additional pet deposit and fee per pet applies. Fenced area for your convenience. Open floor plan. Fully equipped kitchen. Nice screened patio that opens into the living room. Master bedroom with private bath. cable TV, wifi, hammock, hot tub and more!

Don Pedro is an island experience like no other. Come to our island and see why so many have fallen in love with this little 'slice' of paradise!

About Julie

I grew up in Florida and as a child and teenager we would always head over to the Gulf Coast beaches for our recreation and vacations. It was a lot of fun and holds a bunch of fond memories for me. Back then, the Gulf Coast was less discovered and certainly less developed. Today, it's hard to find a beach with so few people and so underdeveloped. Quite refreshing to say the least. We chose Don Pedro Island (Palm Island) for the natural beauty and 'Old Florida' feel. This chain of islands just may be the last true Florida beach you can walk down (7 miles long) and hardly see another person. We also liked that there are no beach bars and high-rise buildings. It is the best of Old Florida, natural, unspoiled and a genuine paradise.

Julie purchased this house in 2003

Why Julie chose Florida South West

We bought here for the unspoiled beauty of the island and the area in general. Englewood is a low-key Old Florida 'beach town' that reminds you of how Florida looked many years ago, without the huge high-rise condominiums and massive hotels clogging the beach. There are plenty of local 'home-grown' shops and restaurants and the fishing is some of the best in world. The beaches are fantastic and the boating is world-class. If you are looking for a great family area that is close to everything, but far away from the congestion, traffic and noise, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place. The only way to get on and off the island is by a 3 minute car ferry ride. Having no bridge to the island allows for a semi-private atmosphere and keeps beach going traffic to an absolute minimum. The island is all residential other than the resort area at the north end of Palm Island which offers a quality restaurant, ice cream/deli shoppe and sundries store. Most all of the island traffic is by golf cart.

What makes this house unique

Staying on the island is not for everyone. If you like lots of places to shop, tourist attractions, beach bars and chain restaurants, this isn't the place for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for un-crowded and un-spoiled beaches, great kayaking, fishing and swinging in a hammock under some breezy palms, this may be just the place. It's for a couple or family that wants some serious down-time ... a place to unplug and recharge your batteries and enjoy some great family time. Our house is pet-friendly with tile floors throughout, a private outdoor shower (which is great for pets!) and one of the only island homes with a tasteful fenced in yard. We always travel with our pets and we know many of you won't leave home without yours either. After all, they're part of the family. There's an entertainment area under the house with a very nice gas grill, bar area, table and chairs and a hot tub. Out back, you'll enjoy a private dock overlooking the lagoon with dock lights and water. On the property you'll see plenty of Gopher Tortoise and native birds. Our landscaping is all Florida native and offers a very private environment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is literally a "bring your suit and toothbrush" kind of place. So much just in case items were included. Additionally, the home was very clean which makes for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Perfectly peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful, beautiful old Florida charm. For Floridians this brings you back to your childhood. My wife is from Winter Haven and the cypress gardens ski from Dick pope was a hit. I am almost 50 from st pete and when I close my eyes this is what I see sitting on the beach with my family (my mom is from Bradenton, old school Florida) Our only negative - we should have stayed for 4 more days. Our entire family had something to do... skimboarding, boogie boarding, snorkeling, shelling (oh the sharks teeth we found), fishing, kayaking and relaxing on the beach.

I love going to the island because it allows our family to unplug. We have a rule on the beach, no digital device during daylight hours. Works great...

By yourself, with your significant other or family this is a wonderful place. Thank you for having us... the Gregory's.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for allowing us to spend our vacation in your lovely home. Everything was perfect - the house was well cleaned, adequately stocked and the mattresses were very comfortable. We enjoyed fishing off the dock and it was perfect for our small boat. The hot tub and kayaks were an added bonus enjoyed by all. We especially loved that we were able to bring our furry children with us. The resident gopher turtle made his rounds daily and we had a little rabbit visit us frequently. Our family had never been to this area before and we loved every minute of it. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer. We hope to come back soon. I highly recommend this home for a vacation get away. The owners were very helpful and friendly which was a great plus.

Great place to get away.....

  • 5 of 5

Don Pedro island is beautiful. The home is beautiful and well stocked, designed, and downright cozy. Bring extra bug spray and candles for the spa and bar area. With all the summer rain it's brutal from sunset forward. We highly recommend this great beach property.

This is a perfect get away to enjoy each other, the quiet beach, and plenty of outdoor activities. Lots of seashells and sharks teeth to search for. The view of the lagoon is nice. You can see the ocean from different rooms plus it is truly just a short walk to it.

Absolute paradise time stood still! Guy and Maggie

  • 5 of 5

Wowwwww ! When my wife says it's the best place she's ever stayed at-- believe me that is a superior compliment!

As mentioned above, strangely the time seemed to stand still for our only 5 days there ( we are coming back) .. the house interior was beautifully decorated to reflect the island mood, very clean and fresh considering the acceptance of pets ( usually there is a smell residue of some sort-- not this house) You have an over abundance of things from the kitchen supplies to the outdoor kayaks, fishing poles ( my main interest- fishing) yes ! an all out well built fishing pier ( cutting board, water hose etc.. boat storage etc..) and all is in working order!!

Do get the golf cart--well worth it to get around the island , to the restaurant etc...(ice cream shop.. yummy )

The outdoor shower--yes! sure comes handy after the long strolls on the gorgeous beach, just less than a minute away ( sea turtles nesting at least 5 came in during our stay), shells galore! Maggie found 1 sand dollar ( not easy ) this one will remain with us and with the offer of another sand dollar from a sweet, wonderful lady walking the beach...

I could go on and on... We loved it !!, one of the best place to have celebrated our young 54th anniversary popping a bottle of champagne on the sand watching a beautiful sunset! wowww!

Notes: The island restaurant was outstanding --ate there every day. The water taxi to Leverock restaurant on the mainland --Dave- the pilot-- absolutely the best - what a character! took time to show us jumping dolphins on the back of the boat!!

For the fisherman: there is an advantage to rent this home-- you have the best of two world, bayside fishing and ocean fishing, Yes.. one guy caught a big snook..yesssss! you may want to bring your heavier poll for those guys.. and oh, no bugs?? I expected sand fleas , squitos, none especially while fishing on the dock...

Like what's his name says: " I'LL be back!!"-- Thank You, merci beaucoup! Julie and Dale for sharing your beautiful island home!...Guy and Maggie

Owner's Response: Happy 54th Anniversary Maggie and Guy! I'm always happy to hear that other people enjoy staying at Coquina Cove as much as we do. Time really does seem to stand still when you're on the island. We call it Old Florida at its best. We'd love to have you come for a visit again soon. Thank You! Julie & Dale

Lovely quiet beach house

  • 5 of 5

We went with another couple for a warm quiet few days at the beach in mid January. It was perfect. The house is very well equipped and comfortable.

My only caution is that the house is up on stilts so you have to transport your belonging about 1.5 stories up the stairs. If you pack heavy suitcases you might regret doing so. We are older and a couple of us had a tough time going up and down them very often. This is a common situation with barrier island beach homes. We are still very happy we stayed here.
