Wow.. This was Paradise, exactly what one would invision to stay at on Kauai. When you walk into the Lobby you can just feel how Grand of a place. The Waterfalls, many pools, and a sandbottom pool. Several hot tubs that all you hear is the sound of water falls all around you. The pool bar sits looking over the ocean. It simply is paradise. Everything is located right on site and if its not you are centrally located to both Lihue and Kapaa. All the activities is just a few miles away. Great Location and we still cant get over the value. The room was exactly what was described. It looks out onto a lagoon, and we were greated by black swans, ducks, geese and chickens every morning. The resort is exactly that a resort. You feel as if you are at a luxury hotel. They have wonderful entertainment almost every night. And after a long day of hikes, kayaking, snorkeling, bike riding, and adventure this was the perfect place to come back to and relax, have a drink at the pool bar or the lounge and a nice dinner just a few steps from your room. You just cant beat the value for a place in paradise!.. We will come back and stay here again! Ryan and Mary

Really disapointed...

  • 2 of 5

Well, let me begin by saying, "don't know where to start...?" Maybe the good news first.

The Hotel and surrounding pools, hot tubs with cascading waterfalls and gardens, the koi ponds, lagoons & fountains were SO beautiful! Especially, as everything was decorated for Christmas. The tree in the main lobby was truly one of the very loveliest I've seen with all the Hawaiian carvings and symbolic treasures, unique to the islands.

However, I felt 'the spirit of Aloha' severely lacking at KBR. When we received confirmation of our booking, we also received notice of a $25.00/day parking fee that literally put us over budget. (this was not mentioned prior to booking) I had a rental car tentatively booked for 2 weeks that I did not confirm. I went on the local Kauai website and discovered that there is a very extensive bus service and as my husband & I are rather adventurous and resorseful, we would rather enjoy taking bus trips and engage with the local people of this quaint tropical paradise. So, after our enquiries at the front desk as to where the bus stop was, we were informed that there were NO bus stops in the immediate vicinity and we should call a taxi and take it to the airport to catch the bus. The airport is a $15.00 cab ride away. Well, that just sounded ridiculous. "What about the Hotel shuttle service? "WELL, YOU ARE NOT ELIGABLE FOR THE SHUTTLE AS YOU HAVE BOOKED PRIVATELY." Really?! Shocking! the shuttle left empty heading to the airport. "Can we pay?" NO. YOU simply are not allowed to take the shuttle as YOU are not guests of KBR. Appearantly as we booked through a private company we were not allowed many amenities offered and consequently spent 2 weeks feeling like SECOND CLASS citizens. When 4 guests had signed up for the "Lei Making Class" I was also refused inclusion and the same when a snorkling course was offered.

Another problem for us was the beach. Lovely to look at but "DO NOT SWIM" MAN-O-WAR IN AREA!" STRONG RIPTIDE IN AREA!!! And if you are willing to risk a few stings, you'll be hard pressesd to make it far enough out past the giant coral 'breakwater' that cuts you off. Not friendly at all! No-one swam at KBR.

Kauai Beach Resort is too remote for todays travellers many of who prefer a more green and ecological environment. Surely, you do not want to promote highways clogged to the nines with excess traffic (as the roads were the 3 days we did rent cars at $100.00/day after parking fees) Bicycles and shuttles and Public Transport are the ways of the future and hopefully this beautiful little island will be saved from the great old fashioned 'American Dream' of jammed up freeways such as Maui and Oahu.

So, as the saying goes.... "If something looks too good to be true it probably is!"

As one lady pointed out to me when I voiced my concerns "many people are spending $300.00/night to stay here." Perhaps, the KBR people should not allow the private renters to advertise the beautiful surroundings that imply you are going to be engulfed in luxury and convenience or at least, let you know up-front that you are not one of "THE CHOSSEN FEW!"

Owner's Response: This guest paid 1/2 to 1/3 the rate that other people book through the hotel paid. Even after the parking or renting a car, is a better deal for them. If they would like to pay the hotel rate to us, we will pay for all the extras they mention, but they will lose money on the deal.

Got what I paid for

  • 3 of 5

Resort is conveniently located close to the airport, and is 1-1.5 hours from both ends of the island highway making it the perfect home base if you are planning to see as much of the island as possible. The room itself is clean and comfortable, although it was humid during my entire stay with no way to ventilate save to open the door. My biggest complaint would be the lack of soundproofing. Doors slammed all night long in the hall and I could hear every word my neighbours (next to and above me) were saying - sometimes as if they were in my room with me...! Overall though, it is fairly priced.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Kauai beach resort. It's nicely located on the island making it easy to do day trips anywhere and come back for a comfortable night sleep at the resort. The pools, bar and restaurant are nice and a fun place to hang out at night when you don't feel like driving anywhere. We recommend it.

Better than I expected!

  • 4 of 5

The resort was better than I expected. The staff, the facilities, and the location were all great. We greatly enjoyed the musicians they invited to perform. The one thing I would ask the owner to improve on would be the bed mattress - a bit old and stiff for me. Note, though, that this isn't what I would call a condo as there is no kitchen. We will go back!

Condo 1121

  • 3 of 5

We had a nice stay at this room...would not call it a condo but a nice room and clean. Enjoyed the stay and the use of the resort. Definitely need a car as it's need to get to town or going north to south but nice it's on the eastern side and easy to go either way. Looks over the lagoon and not much to see other than the chickens who kept us company...rather liked them and miss em already. Bed was comfy and mostly quiet but a couple of days ..upstairs could be heard thumping around. I would recommenced this room to anyone on a budget and just needing a place to in an out...resort is nice and grounds are kept well..pools are also a nice addition to the stay. Sarah was great at answering my questions and making sure everything was right..Thanks for you help and we enjoyed our stay.
