Bethany purchased this condo in 1990
Our family invested in this property over twenty years ago, we have had many Summers filled with wonderful memories amid the Banyan trees and warm sands of Maui. We open our home to you in hopes that you too may create memorable moments in this beautiful spot.
Tucked away in the quiet tranquility of Honokowai,Papkea offers the most grounds per guest, yet provides easy access to all of the tourist destinations one could hope for. It is a true escape in paradiso!
"Our stay at the condo was wonderful. Gorgeous views, fabulous sunsets. The condo is very confortable, fully equiped, beautifully decorated!"
We had an amazing time at the Papakea Resort and I would definitely recommend it to others. The pros - fully stocked with everything you need, our view from our balcony was just amazing and the grounds were really well maintained. The location was perfect - a 10 minute walk to the best beach around. The cons - our room could have used some TLC. The lighting was very poor. I would also suggest putting some money into the bedding - that goes along way.
Overall, me and my family all enjoyed our time at Papakea and I would go back in a heartbeat.
Papakea Resort was awesome. Keep in mind when looking at pricing that the $17/day resort fee is not included and you will have to pay that when you get there to use the facility and to park. I do not recommend this property for families with young children! The loft is extremely dangerous as the bed is pushed right up against the pony wall. We could not even let my three year old up there for fear he might go over the short pony wall even after we moved the bed away. The photos gave me an impression that there was a bar to sit at. There is not. This was only an issue for me because I brought a high chair that I was going to use on the bar and could not use it on a glass table. The plants and walls were extremely dusty and there were plumbing issues. Another safety issue was the knives provided are all broken except one. We were not able to use the pull out bed because we couldn't find the sheets. This issue was taken care of in a few days but by the time we got the sheets we had already came up with another option. Many light bulbs were out. We could have changed them but who wants to do that while you are on vacation. Also didn't want people coming in and doing maintenance while we were there so we just left everything as it was. The floors and beds and bathrooms were clean and there were some extra things like shampoo and conditioner. Lots of tools, pots and pans in the kitchen for cooking but not much besides salt and pepper in the cabinets. There is no AC and that was fine. Lots of snorkel gear and 1 functioning boogie board, a broken stroller, cooler, beach towels, beach mats, and beach umbrellas. Bethany was nice and quick to respond. Papakea is so close to everything you don't really need to drive anywhere. Overall we had a good stay but I would not book this location again with small children.
We spent over a week in unit B408 and our stay was just perfect. The unit was stocked with everything we needed, from pots/pans and non-perishable spices in the kitchen, to plenty of bath and beach towels, to snorkel sets, umbrellas, boogie boards, mats, chairs, an ice-box for use on the beach...you name it, the unit had it already available and stashed away neatly to be used when needed. Location cannot be beat, both in terms of the awesome sunset view, to being within walking distance to a grocery store and plenty of restaurants. Different dining preferences could be easily accommodated due to proximity of all options. Magnificent beaches like Kaanapali and Kapalua were just a few minutes' drive away. Bethany was super accommodating to work with and even graciously offered a late checkout when she heard of the timing of our red-eye flight back home. We'll definitely come back on our next visit to Maui!
We really enjoyed the condo. It looked over the pool and ocean, had all the amenities we needed. It was nice to be able to walk to the stores and restaurants near by. Bethany was wonderful to work with and very accommodating!
Unit was ok, a little small but functional. We had a partial view of the ocean and could see the sunsets. Swimming pools were nice.
Negatives: At least one of the staff harassed us and treated us differently, even coming into our room to see if we hung towels of the balcony This is something we never did.
(We had a total five units of people coming to my son's wedding) Somehow the resort connected us as being together and we were watched carefully and corrected for little things like poor pool etiquette when we saw other do the same behaviors just before or after and were not corrected. This did not stop until my son, (who happens to be african american) complained and then the we were left alone.
One other minor complaint. Time to get a new tv switcher the works with the DVD to make it easier to operate.
This was my second stay at Papakea with my family. This time 5 other families went and stayed at this resort as well and the grounds were perfect for us grilling dinners together and hanging out in the covered area by the pool in the evenings. The condo had everything we needed, there is a blender too even though not listed on the kitchen info. The condo was stocked with plenty of bath and beach towels and I was happy there were beach chairs as well as a cooler and also snorkel sets. There is no beach front access but this did not matter to us as we drove to different beaches every day. Also the Kaanapali trail is just a short distance to walk to hop on which was good for morning walks. Highly recommend!
