About The Owner

Scott and Kathie are from Sonoma County and have been coming to Northstar for decades. Scott is a firefighter/paramedic with the San Francisco Fire Department and Kathie has been an RN for years mostly working in Emergency Medicine. Kathie has skied Northstar since her teenage years. Scott and Kathie’s girls have been skiing Northstar beginning at about age 3 with the oldest now age 23. We have stayed in the ski trails condos over the years and finally decided to purchase one of our own. We hope you enjoy Northstar as much as we do and enjoy our home away from home.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2008

Why The Owner chose Truckee

We have enjoyed Northstar for years. When deciding to purchase a vacation property, we decided this was the place where we wanted to spend most of our time. Northstar offers so much for families of all ages and has always been a wonderful family oriented resort. Our girls have grown up learning to ski and board at Northstar and this is still their favorite resort.

What makes this condo unique

This ski in/ski out condo is a short walk to the village nestled within the quiet of pine trees yet with easy access to all of the amenities. Once you stay in Ski Trails, you will not want to stay anywhere else at Northstar. Access to the Recreation Center with pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, gym, saunas, arcade, and everything you need for the whole family, is an added bonus!

I love this condo!

  • 5 of 5

I was very pleasantly surprised at the number of things that this owner has done right, and how perfect this rental was for us. Directions were clear and parking was free and easy. The unit is clean, modern, has good lighting from a southern exposure, and it has everything you will need (even a great selection of kitchen spices). The appliances are new, Bosch dishwasher is quiet, ample cookware, beautiful granite and comfortable furnishings. The sofa bed is the most comfortable one I've ever laid on. The master bed is equally comfortable (and I'm extremely picky). The central air/heat works extremely well and quickly, and the fireplace also works at the flip of a switch. There is a propane Weber grill outside on the deck that looks too tiny, but it was quick to warm up and blew me away with how easy and efficient to use it was. The wifi works well and the TV/Netflix is so easy to operate that my kids had no problem navigating the remote controls. Also easy is the door access which is an electronic combination, which made it super convenient to have kids ski in and ski out for supplies and equipment without the worry of loosing a key. It was a little hard to access the adjacent ski trail, but once you climbed over the snow piles to get there, it was a 30 second ski ride to the gondola. The only negative is that I thought there was a washer/dryer inside the unit, but apparently it is a shared community facility. The unit is small, but appropriately sized for a family of four. The kitchen is definitely a 1-person-at-a-time tight space, but was never a problem for us. I recommend this condo highly and would definitely choose to stay in it again.

Lovely & comfortable condo

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed at this condo for our ski trip last week. The condo was clean, nicely updated, and so comfortable. It had everything we need and more, which made us feel right at home. We liked how everything was laid out and organized - which we can put away all our gears with ease. We are family of four and felt very comfortable staying! The location was great. Just a few steps from the slopes and close to the village. We also appreciated the lovely Christmas decorations. We've stayed at various condos at Northstar but this one was my favorite!

Hated It -

  • 1 of 5

One of the worst experiences we've ever had. Apparently the unit has no air conditioning. Or if it does, it doesn't work. It was 82 outside and 88 inside all day long ( and into the night). Miserable, nasty and hot! I set the thermostat as low as it would go but it only blew warm air

Also the bottom bath tub/shower is much higher than the floor in the bathroom. We are both over 65 and there was no grab bar. Neither of us could get out of the tub/shower without the other person standing there (and helping us out). Rather scary if you are not young and nimble. I was afraid to grab the towel bar as it seemed to be only loosely attached to the wall. The table outside on the deck was broken and unusable, so we couldn't even sit comfortably on the deck. We had great difficulty getting either TV to work, eventually calling for help to get instructions as to how to operate the rather complicated controls. We will never go back. Originally we had booked another unit that had a King sized bed. The manager requested that we switch since we were only staying for 2 nights and she had the chance to ret the king unit for a month. She did not offer any inducement to switch, which seemed unfair as switching was to her advantage but not to ours.

Owner's Response: I manage the vacation rentals for this beautifully decorated condo and was SO surprised to read this guest's review on the condo. Please allow me to address the items of contention. There is no A/C in the Ski Trails units or any condos at Northstar (that I know of) except for the new Village condos. I live in Tahoe and no one I know here has A/C, not even my friend who owns his own HVAC company. The temperature during this guest’s stay was in the 80s during the day but was down to low 40s at night, so his claim it was 88 at night is rather far-fetched. I did not advertise it on the listing nor tell him the condo had A/C. The tub is an inch or two above standard without any previous complaints. Unless the bathrooms have been fully remodeled, all of these unit’s bathtubs are slightly elevated. The guest also called me because he was having trouble turning on the cable box, and I walked him through it over the phone. The guest requested another condo but a previous inquiry had already been placed for that unit with a king bed, so I offered him this condo and explained it had a queen bed. I only manage updated and remodeled condos in Ski Trails and the Village so they are all comparable residences. The reservation was made in April for an August arrival, so with all due respect to this guest, he had plenty of time to find another option. I went by the condo before this guest arrived to make sure the condo was in order and to leave a note regarding the outside table which had a broken slat on top but was still usable. He arrived early and I told him I would text him when the condo was ready. I apologized for any inconvenience about the table as we were just waiting on a replacement....I have lots of extra items for our condos at Lake Tahoe Mountain Vacations; although an outdoor table was not an item I had on hand. The owner of this condo promptly replaced the table just after this guest left as the damage had just occurred prior to his arrival. The family who owns this condo is constantly upgrading it and putting in nice fixtures and furnishings. If you see the other reviews, they are all 5 stars. This condo has brand new carpeting, tile, barstools, kitchen and outdoor tables, amongst other upgrades like 2 TVs and a Comfort Sleep pullout couch. The owners of this condo make sure it is adequately updated and comfortable for guests. Lake Tahoe Mountain Vacations is proud to have this condo among its portfolio to provide lodging for our Northstar guests.

Clean, updated, great location, and so comfortable

  • 5 of 5

I can't believe it's been 5 months since we stayed here but I just had to write a positive review for this condo and the owner. This place is so clean and updated, especially for the Ski Trails condos, which can sometimes be old and in need of updates. This one shows lots of renovations and updates, and was so clean that I didn't feel like I had to sanitize anything when we arrived. The location is great for skiing, which is why we were there, because it's a few steps from the Village Express run which gets you directly down to the village and the gondola. It is also really easy walking access to the ski school, so dropping off the kids in the morning doesn't mean getting up at the crack of dawn. The unit is also really comfortable. The beds were great, even the sofa bed pull out in the living room. We noticed how comfortable it was - just like sleeping on an actual bed - that we looked at the brand name of it. It's American Leather, and for those of you who know, it's a top of the line sleeper sofa that runs in the thousands of dollars. After sleeping on it, we decided we want one in our own home for guests. And I also have to mention that there is a lot of storage space here. The bench in the hallway is where we put all of our ski gear and some luggage, so the rest of the unit was free of our clutter and stuff. The owner/manager (it's been so long that I forget her name) is also so flexible and accommodating. We had to contact her a couple of times and she was very responsive. We forgot to return the rec card when we checked out, and she was very laid back about it and let us return it at the end of the day. I like dealing with people who are accommodating and flexible towards guests. We definitely plan on staying here again. I hope it's available, since after reading this review more people may want to book it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! I manage this condo for the owners who have paid great attention to detail so our guests can be comfortable and relaxed during their stay. And I agree, the sleeper sofa is just like sleeping on a very nice mattress, it is called Comfort Sleep. Hope to have you back soon, Beth

Cozy, charming and clean

  • 5 of 5

My son and I stayed here this weekend, and it was exactly as described. Everything was very easy, and the condo was cozy and clean. My 10-year-old loved the location, and so did I ... it was close to the Village and a stone's throw from the ski trails. We loved that it was also not RIGHT on the ski trail, as the snow cats are noisy at night and we didn't hear them at all. Perfect for a little getaway with your kid(s) and/or partner. We'll definitely come back!
