About Debbie Munholand
We live in Sarasota, just about 45 minute from the island. We live the hectic life and were looking for a place on the water that we could take our family, totally away from the hustle and bustle of running our family business. We spent almost every weekend on the island when our daughter was young. It was very special to us, because there were no distractions and we could simply 'be a family'. We shelled, snorkeled, boated and fished during the day and at night we played cards, boardgames or watched a movie that we had been wanting to see. It 'forced' us to be a family. Some of the best memories of our lives are from weekends on Little Gasparilla Island. We would not change a thing. Our daughter is now grown with children of her own, and she relishes taking her family there to relive her childhood memories. We invite you and your family to begin a tradition of just simply 'being a family' together in our family's island paradise.
Debbie Munholand purchased this Townhome in 1991
Why Debbie Munholand chose Placida
Hideaway Bay Beach Club is unique in that we maintain our own private ferry to and from the island. ALL the other residents on the island must provide their own transportation to and from the island. This was a BIG plus for us. There are only a handful of boat access islands left in FL, that only allow golf cart traffic. We saw it as a 'laid back' type of old Florida that is so very rare these days. Flip flops, shorts, bathing suits, straw hats is the style of the day.... everyday. There's nothing hoity-toity about our little island.

No Stress Trip
This had to be simplest trip I have ever planned. The owner is THE best communicator, and all experiences were exactly as described.
The unit and the island are beautiful!
Thank you so very much! This made my day! I hope you have a lot of good memories from you visit... would love to have you all back again... ANYTIME!!!
Unit was great, lots of books, movies, outdoor toys and enough space for everyone. Debbie was fast and helpful with any questions we had. Beach is a short walk and not crowded. Exactly the right place to go and relax.
Thank you so much... It really makes me happy when my guests can just "relax." Please come again.
Absolutely wonderful stay! The accommodations were excellent for our family. The kids loved the spiral staircase & their bunk bed! Looking forward to visiting again.
Great beach, not crowded
The condo was very close to the beach. It had everything we needed at the condo from beach chairs, plenty of towels, kitchen supplies, spices, and more. We found a 512 shark teeth, over 60 Sandollar‘s, and many other treasures on our five night stay. We saw dolphins swimming in the gulf and one morning when my kids went out early to snorkel they had a manatee within 2 feet of them.
One thing to note is the bedroom upstairs does not have a door to close it off. You can’t see up there and it has a spiral staircase leading up but it is still something to note.
The golf cart was lots of fun and quite handy when getting around the island. A couple helpful things that we didn’t find out until the end were if you’re wanting souvenir T-shirts you can go to the fire hall and buy some there. There are also some at Eldreds marina which is not far off the island. Check the times for low tide and go to the south end of the island to find lots of treasures that have been washed up. :-) Also, be sure to keep an eye on the wind conditions because if the winds get over 25 mph the ferry will not run.
Overall we had a great time.
Thanks for your kind words. You were perfect guests. Thanks for the tip about low tide at the south end... I've got to try that! We hope you are able to return one day...
We love it at LGI. Everyone is sooooo nice and it is super quite and beautiful. The unit we stayed in was everything we needed - plenty of room for us. The beach is not crowded and is easy to walk and look for shells and pretty homes. We enjoyed touring the island on the golf car. We would definitely return to get away from all the hustle and bustle of life. There was a retired group on the island who have been there for months and it’s probsbly an annual ritual - makes me want to have that as my “why” and goal.
We loved our visit to Little Gasparilla Island. I was worried about having to take all of our food over, but it ended up being so easy. The ferry had large carts to load all of our bags. Parking in the lot was a breeze. Debbie's place had everything we could have needed. If you're looking for peace and quiet and slowing down a bit, this is a great place to do that. We had three main activities: sitting on the beach, walking the beach and riding around on the golf cart. Everyone on the island was so friendly. And Debbie was very responsive to my questions. Her place is so cute and comfy. We loved our stay and highly recommend it.
Thank you for being perfect guests. We hope that you will return someday.
Spend your vacation on a boat access ONLY island. No bridges, cars, malls...(no commercial interest) distinctly different, by design. No high-rises, OLD FLORIDA... the last of it's kind. Catch our private Ferry to shuttle you across the ICW to the pristine Little Gasparilla Island. ( Named for the legendary...Jose' Gaspar the infamous pirate) This island is for those that want to 'GET AWAY FROM IT ALL' This 7 mile island is known worldwide for the spectacular shells that wash up daily. Enjoy your day walking on the beach, basking in the sun, taking a golf cart ride around the island to see the eclectic historic homes and beach cottages. Make friends with all of the critters that call the island home.... Osprey, Gopher tortoise, Great Blue Heron, beach crabs, sand pipers, and just off shore, the world's best Tarpon fishing as well as Red Fish and Snook. At night walk on the beach to witness the magnificent Loggerhead Turtles laying their eggs.
At the end of the day relax on the screened lani to watch the most beautiful sunsets on Florida's west coast. Our unit is the CLOSEST rental to the beach in all of Hideaway Bay Beach Club with island decor just recently redecorated in 2012.
A short ride (5 minutes ) back to the mainland on our Ferry will bring you within a half mile of the causeway to the luxurious island of Boca Grande, a popular vacation spot for the rich and famous. (former presidents, movie stars, recording artist (Rock & country), film producers, Corporate moguls ... you never know who you will see) Fine dining, shopping and sightseeing await you there.
Paradise, heaven on earth, island life, Hideaway Bay... by any name, it is a vacation you will want to return to as soon as you are able.
For more information I recommend this article and video. Our condo is seen on the golf cart tour around the 8 minute mark
