Guestbook comments from the owner

I don't know when one of my "spur of the moment" trips has ever turned out so smoothly. I attribute it all to my hosts.

First, your vacation condo was available; second, it is so perfectly stocked! Kitchen items, beach items, and what a comfortable place to hang. The bed is very comfortable. Thank you for the high end sheets, towels, dinner dishes and silverware.

You have thought of everything and you should know that it hasn't gone unnoticed. Your perseverance is looking for the perfect view, location, and atmosphere completely paid off!

Restaurants, bakeries, shops, and the Coconut Marketplace are all within walking distance. You're steps away from the half-mile long Wailua Beach, which encompasses Wailua Bay and Wailua River State Park. There's a long, paved beach walk/bike trail right in front of the complex. You can walk along the beach to the north, to a keiki (children's) pool, and a sacred heiau (ancient Hawaiian temple). Only 5 minutes away from Lydgate Park, with protected snorkeling ponds and a fantastic playground. Wailua Bay View is all about the 'bay view'! And although you can swim in Wailua Bay, it is known for swells and riptides. Not for novices! That's why the local surfers and bodyboarders love it, and they are fun to watch!

Relaxing and enjoying this perfectly located condo at the end of each day

VRBO Bear stayed here

Dec 27, 2013

New Year’s in Kauai is just what the Bear family ordered for our winter getaway! This bear couple was spoiled on their 20th Anniversary with this perfectly located Condo in Wailua, on the Coconut Coast. It was the perfect location for us to do everything we wanted in Kauai. The condo is situated at the end of the complex – away from street noise – and close to the fabulous beach and ocean view. Right when we arrived, we headed straight to the balcony to take in the sounds and view that is Kauai. The condo was well stocked with everything we needed for the beach as well as a clean and organized kitchen. And, they had air conditioning in the bedroom if it was too hot. But we didn’t need it. There were plenty of windows to open to catch the ocean breezes! The location of our condo was perfect. We had easy access to multiple grocery stores and restaurants. But, we were far enough from town that we didn’t feel like we couldn’t get away from everything. The owners were also very attentive and surprised us with some snacks, coffee and a bottle of wine waiting for our arrival! It seems to me that the owners really care about their home! They recently remodeled their bathroom into a mini oasis! The large shower head and openness of the space was very relaxing. They provided us plenty of towels and supplies for our visit. One of our favorite evenings was walking over to Waialua Bay (about a 2 minute walk) with our beach chairs in hand, a tasty beverage, sitting close to the water and watching the stars. It was dark and peaceful in the evening. We brought a flashlight with us to find our way. After sitting and chatting for a while, we decided to look at what was around us with our flash lights. To our surprise, there were about 10 tiny crabs frozen by our light – staring at us. Then they quickly zipped back into the water or into their homes in the sand. It was a magical evening for all of us. I really enjoy going on bike rides and it is very easy to go biking in Kauai. There was a bike path (called the Ke Ala Hele Makalae 7 mile trail) that starts directly across from our condo – which becomes a dedicated path in Kapa’a after 2 miles. Papa Bear LOVES to roller skate, so Mama Bear got a Bike (with room for me!) and we took that path at least 3 times on our visit. It goes all the way to Kuna Bay where we got to play in the waves and watch the surfers. I’m glad we brought towels and sunscreen! During our visit, we got to head to the North Shore and visit the remote area of Wainiha and Tunnels Beach to go snorkeling. The waves were too high at the Tunnels Beach (in the Winter the water is more rough in the North), so we decided to check-out the Kalalau Trail – which is an 11 mile trail that goes all the way over to the Na Pali Coast. Our family loves to snorkel – so we were looking forward to the location. But, the trail was very beautiful and in the lush jungle. The trail was a little much for my little legs to handle, so we only made it a ½ mile in – but I’m glad I went that far and got to enjoy the views! A few days later we headed to the South end of the Island to snorkel at Poipu Beach. There were a lot more people down there, but the snorkeling was great! We also snorkeled near our condo at Lydgate Park. It was a sheltered swimming area that had a few fish to see. There were lots of families there and I felt much safer and protected from the higher waves! At the end of every day, it was nice to get back to our comfortable condo. We could cook what we wanted and barbeque by the pool. We made Hawaiian Ribs one night – they took 3 hours to cook – so I got to swim in the beautiful pool and warm my fur in the sun! Another night we picked up some giant Kauai farm raised shrimp on our way back from Waimea in Hanapepe. They were so good! And a bargain too! We cooked those by the pool as well. It is always sad when it is time to go home. But, we had a relaxing and enjoyable time at this condo in Wailua. The location, amenities and scenery made this one of the most memorable vacations we have had in a long time. I will definitely tell my friends about this magical trip. Thank you for accepting the Bear into your home in Kauai.

Condo was beautiful. Great view. Actually saw whales from the lanai! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

Location of condo made it convenient to get to the entire island. North coast drive was beautiful. South and west drives were equally as great. Went up to Waimea canyon and Kokee state park. Weather as not as cooperative. Had mostly cloudy, windy and rainy days. Last day was finally sunny! Even with the not so sunny weather, we enjoyed our stay on Kauai, it's truly a beautiful paradise! The condo was great, had everything we needed. Loved the shower in the bathroom!! Thanks for a great vacation!

Relaxing Beach Front Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Crystal and Jim's place and it was as advertised. The unit, from the Lanai, looks directly out on the beach and water which was a very relaxing way to wake up to a beautiful sunrise and sip our morning coffee. The unit is well stocked and very comfortable and is a great location. We used the BBQ facilities of the facility and they were well maintained and clean. The Property Manager came by and she was very personable and helpful. Kapa'a is a great location on Kauai to go in either direction to see the island in all its glory. We look forward to coming back soon and staying here once again.

February 2018 Stay

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with our 2 night stay at Oceanfront Kauai Condo. The communication with both Crystal and the housekeeper were prompt and accurate. There were issues with the sliding glass door and Crystal advised me before we even arrived that a new patio door had been ordered. I felt that was very conscientious and with the very strong winds during our stay that are out of the owner's control, totally understandable. The housekeeper was there when we arrived and she fully explained the situation and showed us around. The condo was spotless; the view beautiful from the patio amazing! The bed was very comfortable. The location is very close to the Wailua River if you are planning to do the kayak/hike to waterfall excursion. The kitchen is well stocked even though we really didn't cook much since we were only there 2 days, but appreciated the complimentary coffee. Also, there were many beach items that were in fantastic shape (chairs, cooler, snorkel gear, etc.) available to borrow, but since the weather didn't cooperate, we didn't use. It was very nice that the owner offers however. Condo was pretty quiet, but you do hear some street noise in the bedroom since it faces the street. My only complaint is the heavy traffic in this area. There is a side street that you can take to the North past the condo, but to go south toward Lihue, you have to go North and turn back south fighting heavy traffic. We experienced this any time we were in Kaapa - morning, early afternoon, late afternoon - busy at all times and stop and go on the very busy highway. This is certainly no fault of the owner and hopefully the city and Kauai are looking into solutions to this issue. I highly recommend this condo and would stay if ever in the area again. Thank you Crystal for being such a wonderful host!

Owner's Response: Aloha Lois, thanks for the review, and thanks for choosing our condo. We're glad you were so happy with it, and loved the view, the comfortable bed, and the fact that our wonderful cleaners had left it spotless for you! Since purchasing this sweet little condo in 2012, we've had the bathroom completely remodeled, added those sound-dampening bedroom windows you must have noticed, and will soon be replacing the entire wall of windows and sliding doors on the lanai side of the living room. Thanks for your patience about that, we've found that projects take longer on an island. We're committed to continually refurbishing and upgrading, and our twice yearly visits help us do just that. I'm sorry your two day visit was impacted by the weather, I know you wanted to kayak and hike. That green, lush terrain must be watered! Your visit was also during peak tourist season for Hawaii, you'll find crowds during the winter on each island, especially in crowded resort areas like Poipu and Princeville. I invite you back during a less crowded, less rainy time of year, and I bet you'll love it even more. Wishing you much Aloha, Crystal and Jim

Wonderful Oceanfront Condo!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this beautiful condo! It had everything we needed to make us feel at home. The Hamms were so easy to work with and great at quickly answering our questions. Marvis was so nice and gave us great ideas for around the island. We had most of our meals in the condo but found the Brick Oven Pizza place behind the resort. It's a very relaxed place with great pizza. We spent many days hiking - Sleeping Giant, Waimea Canyon and kayaking the Wailua River then hiking in to the Secret Falls. We found a great ice cream store, Tropical Dreams, near Safeway. Also, you have to try a shave ice at Hee Fat General Store! So good! We loved sitting on the lanai and watching the waves roll in. There was a nice trade wind so we only used the air conditioner a couple of times. We hope to be able to visit again, there are so many more hikes we'd love to do.

Comfortable condo with beautiful view!

  • 4 of 5

Overall we really enjoyed the Oceanfront Kauai condo. The view was beautiful and listening to the waves was awesome! The location is convenient to restaurants, farmer's markets, shopping and traveling to both the north side and south side of the island. The condo was very clean, decorated nicely and more than enough space for two people. There was every convenience including Internet, cable TV, books, puzzles and games. The one downside is that the bedroom is the only air conditioned room. It got rather humid in the other living areas.

The hosts really tried to think of everything and are readily available to answer any questions you may have. They were much appreciated and accommodating hosts! We recommend this property!

Owner's Response: Aloha Susan. Thank you for the review, and for recommending our condo. While we would love to have AC in the living room as well, it is not possible due to our complex's rules. We have multiple fans, and flow-thru windows to take advantage of the trades. On our listing we clearly state the AC is bedroom only. We feel the oceanfront location and value we offer, make it a good choice. We'd love to host you again, and we're happy that late check out came in handy! Mahalo nui loa, Crystal and Jim
