In Hawaiian “Kiahuna” means “Special Place”. The Kiahuna Plantation is indeed a special place that invokes memories of Old Hawaii during the early plantation days. The ONLY beachfront condominium resort in Poipu, its 35-acre grounds feature expansive landscaped lawns with mature palm, banyan and plumeria trees, lush tropical gardens with fragrant flowers, lily and koi ponds, orchid gardens, a picturesque lagoon, and low-density bungalow-style vacation condos.

A short walk through the beautiful tropical grounds, or the historic Moir Gardens directly below our condo, and you'll be right at Poipu beach! The warm, turquoise water and crescent-shaped beach is protected by a reef, and is consistently rated as one of the top beaches in the US! The white sands of Poipu Beach are great for lounging, and the blue crystal water is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and surfing.

OUR KIAHUNA CONDO AMENITIES (Unit 326 / Bldg 39)

Our condo has been extensively remodeled. Upgrades include new kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite counters, two flat screens TVs, a DVD player, California King size mattress, iPod docking stereo, and great lanai furniture. We also upgraded the bathroom to include a new vanity with granite top, and replaced the original tub with a walk-in shower with slate tile and glass doors. While we updated the unit to today’s standards, we did leave the original Old Hawaii plantation charm throughout with the original mahogany wood interior accents.

All the Kiahuna Plantation condos are breeze-cooled with no A/C. The furnished 240 square foot lanai looks directly over the famous Moir Gardens. There's also a convenient double BBQ island right next to our building, so cook your dinner and walk down to the back or enjoy dinner on the lanai. Our condo offers great privacy, free WiFi, free parking, in-room safe, no resort fee, and is smoke-free.

KIAHUNA PLANTATION AMENITIES

The Kiahuna Plantation features free parking, a beach-side activity center where you can get complimentary chairs, $7 / day boogie boards, and a coin operated Laundromat. The Plantation Gardens Restaurant, which is down the path from our condo, offers cocktails and dinner with great views of the grounds.

OUR CONDO’S LOCATION IN THE COMPLEX

Our condo is located in Bldg. 39 on the second floor (9 easy steps up), and overlooks the Moir Gardens from the lanai. With the beautiful gardens behind our building rather than another building, the condo offers complete privacy. It is considered a 'Garden View Deluxe' unit, as it does not have a direct view of the ocean, but is closer to the beach than the 'Garden View' units and offers great views and privacy. Take one of the myriad of paths leading through the grounds, and you'll be on the Great Lawn or Poipu Beach in 4 - 5 minutes!

The Poipu Shopping Village is an easy stroll across Poipu Road. It features several restaurants including Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi, Puka Dog, and Keoki’s Paradise (our absolute favorite!) that features an open-air setting with a small lagoon, tiki torches and indoor waterfalls! You'll also find a small grocery store, Starbucks, and many shops for gifts, art, and clothing.

FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS CONDO?

Value! While we offer very competitive rates, our condo is far from a low-grade condo. It has been tastefully remodeled, and is walking distance to Poipu Beach, as well as the shops, restaurants and bars at the nearby Poipu Shopping Village. It also provides privacy and amazing views of the Moir Gardens.

DOES IT HAVE A VIEW OF THE OCEAN?

No. (Actually, there is a partial view of the ocean from the lanai, and it is close enough to hear the surf in the evening.) It has amazing views of the Moir Gardens directly below the lanai.

HOW FAR IS IT TO THE BEACH?

The beach is a pleasant 3 - 5 minute walk through the beautiful grounds of the Kiahuna Plantation. You'll enjoy exploring the various pathways to the beach!

DOES THE CONDO HAVE AIR CONDITIONING?

No. None of the Kiahuna Plantation condos offer air conditioning as the electrical grid in the buildings cannot support the power requirements for A/C. They are breeze cooled via the trade winds. There are also ceiling fans in each room and several free-standing fans.

DOES THE CONDO INCLUDE USE OF THE POOL & FITNESS CENTER?

Yes. All Kiahuna Plantation condos now include free membership for our guests at the Poipu Beach Athletic Center (PBAC) across the street. Reference www.PoipuClub.com for details about the athletic center.

WHAT CATEGORY CONDO IS THE CONDO?

There are 5 condo categories ranging from Ocean Front (closest to beach) to Garden View (farthest from beach). Ours is a "Garden View Deluxe" condo, which is not too far from the beach, offers great privacy as well as great views of the famous Moir Garden.

WHAT FLOOR IS THE CONDO ON?

Our condo is on the second floor of Building 39. However, since the first floor is below the parking lot level, there are only 9 steps to climb!

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN THE CONDO ACCOMMODATE?

Fire codes limit occupancy to a total of 4 persons, adults or children. It's ideally suited for a couple since there's a King size bed in the bedroom. However, the living room has a pullout sofa-sleeper that works out great for a child or two children. Four adults can share the condo, but it may be a bit crowded!

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS FOR LONGER STAYS?

CAN YOU HEAR ROAD NOISE FROM THE CONDO?

About 25% of the buildings that house the condos are located toward the back of the grounds along Poipu Road, including ours. With the bedroom shutters open you can hear some road noise. If you're a very light sleeper you may want to consider a condo closer to the beach; however, they are typically priced quite a bit higher. It hasn't generally been an issue as you can tell by reading our reviews.

WE HEAR THAT THESE CONDOS ARE OLD. HAS YOURS BEEN UPDATED?

Entering some of these condos is like going through a time warp to 1980, as many are still original! Ours has been extensively remodeled, but still maintains the old Hawaiian plantation charm.

About Rick Jackson

We discovered the Kiahuna Plantation while driving around the island on our honeymoon in 2002. We were already mesmerized by Kauai’s natural beauty, its friendly people, the rich culture, and the great climate. However, the Kiahuna Plantation left an indelible impression on us! We had discovered the jewel of Kauai with the most beautiful beach we had ever seen, the Great Lawn, the tall palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the manicured grounds with traditional beach house bungalows sprinkled throughout the 35-acre grounds.

We came back to Kauai for our 10th anniversary and stayed at the Kiahuna Plantation, and decided to make it a permanent part of our lives. The vision of our grandkids playing on this beach and experiencing Kauai was just too much to resist.

We sincerely hope that you create meaningful memories during your stay, and that you feel at home in our special little condo.

Kauai is very special to us since we started our married lives together there. The Kiahuna Plantation has also become an important place for us, and we look forward to spending time here with family and friends. While we have both traveled quite a bit and have also lived abroad, we still feel that Kauai has so much to offer. It has become our second home and we look forward to our visits to Kauai.

What makes this condo unique

Its location, an easy walk to the beach through the beautiful grounds, and the many amenities nearby make it an ideal location. It’s located directly in front of the historic Moir Garden, from where it’s a short walk to the on-site Plantation Restaurant & Bar. It has also been extensively remodeled. A convenient double BBQ island is directly next to our building. No need to use your car to go for coffee at Starbucks, a cocktail & dinner, or groceries, as it’s a short stroll across the street to the Poipu Shopping Village that features great restaurants and shopping.

Great base to explore southern Kauai

This is a nice condo near the well known and beautiful Poipu beach. We had a great time here exploring southern Kauai. This island is fantastic! Waimea canyon, na pali cruises, polihale beach, gillin beach, ... there are so many amazing things to do that are easily accessible from this location. We'd typically go explore something in the morning and then come back and go to Kiahuna (the nearest beach) or Poipu beach in the afternoon and then stay until sunset.

A few tips:

Kiahuna beach is easy to walk to but Poipu is a bit of a stretch if you have a bunch of stuff and are wearing flip flops. We drove to Poipu after our first visit. There is a big parking lot so parking isn't a problem.

We found bigger and better stocked grocery stores in Lihue than near the condo. So I'd recommend getting many of your groceries on your way from the airport.

The Kiahuna Plantation is indeed a fantastic location for venturing off to your daily adventures, and such a serene place to come back to. It sounds like the nearby beach that you were driving to was “Poipu Park Beach”, commonly referred to as “Brennecke Beach” for its Brennecke Beach Broiler restaurant. It is very brief drive to the Kiahuna Plantation, has ample parking, and is a particularly great beach for young kids. Yes, the Whaler’s General store across the street in the Poipu Shopping Village is convenient, but has tourist prices, so I don’t recommend it for all supplies. Marilyn and I generally buy our food and drinks in nearby Koloa at the Big Save grocery store, but there are many chain grocery stores (and Costco) in Lihue. Thanks again for staying with us! Warm and inviting Condo in Poipu

We enjoyed our stay in Poi'pu and specifically in this condo. The condo itself is comfortable, great bed and plenty of space for a small family or couple. The view out of the lanai is of the famed Moir Gardens. There is a peek-a-boo ocean view past the Sheraton as well. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and it is a short lovely walk to the beach. Across the the main road is the a small shopping center with many restaurants for all tastes. The kitchen can accommodate making breakfast everyday, which helps the budget! Others have left behind sand toys, beach chairs, there are folding chairs for guests, and we left behind a full size 48 quart hard sided cooler to use as well. Lihue is 15 minutes away, as well as Port Allen, Waimea Canyon 20-30 minutes, North Shore 1+hours away. Loved staying here and highly recommend this condo!

We initially stocked the guest closet with a few necessities, but it has since been morphing. A few things have disappeared, but others appear unexpectedly based on the kindness of our guests. It’s great, but the only problem is I can’t answer exactly what’s there when asked! You’re right that the Kiahuna Plantation is a terrific location, and the South Shores area has been getting increasingly popular. Less rain than the north, beautiful beaches, gorgeous golf courses, close proximity to many popular attractions, and lots of natural beauty. So glad you enjoyed your stay! Much Aoha, Rick

Great area!!

This place is close to everything in the southern part of the island!! This condo had everything we needed, dishes, towels, etc. The bbq was not working unfortunately so we used the oven. Be prepared to pay the cleaning fee up front. (The owner did inform of us of this ahead of time). Plenty of space for 2. Thank you for sharing your place with us!!

Had a great time

Stayed for 8 days. First time to Kauai. Condo was nice, had everything we needed. The location of the building is close to the road, but the traffic didn't bother us--most of the roads are 35mph, so it's not like people can zoom noisily. On one hand, it was nice to be close to walk to the shopping center for dinner and souvenirs; but it was a little bit of a walk to the beach. Not a big deal for 2 30-something adults, but if we bring our young kids some day, I'd probably stay closer to the beach. We got lost our first few times and ended up at the other resort beach--beautiful walk through the property though! Boogie boards, umbrella, fins, hats, etc in the condo. No ac, but lots of fans, so we stayed comfortable at night.

The beach hut was great,providing towels and "local" places to go for activities and dinner. We didn't BBQ like we planned, but the grill is right outside the building. 30 mins from the airport--if you get in early enough, stop at the Walmart for provisions.

Only "surprise" was an extra $35 for a mid-week cleaning, but it was nice to have fresh towels.

Surf board rental: go to Nukamoi's at Poipu. Boards are so-so, but the guys are great, happy to tell you about surf spots, you can trade boards, and they only charge you for the days you have the board. Da Crack has great burritos at good prices. Olympic cafe has great wraps. We did a helicopter tour with Island Helicopters and a catamaran to Napali coast with Capt Andy--both were fabulous and I would highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! It sounds like you had an amazing Kauai vacation. Yes, about 25% of the condos at the Kiahuna Plantation are at the back of the complex along Poipu Road. The disadvantage is that you can hear some road noise if you have the bedroom shutters open but, as you pointed out, it hasn’t generally been an issue. The advantage is that our condo is obviously cheaper than those closer to the beach. Guests can also walk across the street to the Starbucks, the grocery store, and the restaurants / bars across Poipu Road. There are also no condos across from ours, which affords our guests great privacy and awesome views of the Moir Gardens, as well as a partial view of the ocean. There are indeed lots of ways to walk through the 35-acre Kiahuna Plantation to access the beach, and it can be fun getting lost! However, the most direct path is simply through the Moir Gardens directly below our condo, which only takes about 4 or 5 minutes. The gardens are also beautiful! I’m glad you got to experience the Napali coast and even a helicopter ride. As you know, there’s so much more to see and experience on Kauai - but that can be on your next trip! Warm regards, Rick

We really enjoyed our stay at Kiahuna 326!! Very nicely appointed with an open floor plan,well appointed, relaxing view of Moir gardens and even a slice of ocean view. The unit is well maintained.

Very pleasant and responsive staff.

Walking distance to Poipu Shopping Village , Kukui'ula Shopping Center, and lovely Kiahuna Beach.

This was our 5th visit to Kauai, and we would rate this as one of our favorite accommodations!
