Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

This triplex house has everything you need and suits the vacationer or business traveler. The house clings onto the side of the mountain, on a dead-end road, giving one the feel of truly being in the mountains but only 1.5 miles from the center of downtown.

We designed and built the multi-family house in 1993, and the main unit served as our home for several years. This particular 1 bedroom unit is best suited for a couple or small family with a king bed and large sectional sofa for extra sleeping. It is equipped with comfortable furnishings and has a small patio to enjoy the mountain views.

We believe you will truly enjoy your 'repose' time dwelling in this clean, 'clutter free' apartment. It is bright and open, yet very comfortable, cozy and intimate. If you are looking for something sleek, unique, and close to everything, then this apartment will satisfy your vacation desires and help create a memorable stay here in scenic Asheville.

About Sherry Masters

I am a local architect and Asheville native and my wife Sherry is also a native of the area. Sherry has formerly worked as the manager/buyer for Grovewood Gallery for over 20-years and is heavily involved with promoting local arts and crafts. My firm concentrates primarily on healthcare design and other institutional work.

Sherry Masters purchased this apartment in 1993

Why Sherry Masters chose Asheville

We built this property as our primary home with rentals units as well and wanted to create a real sense of place on this challenging small, steep lot. The design is a simple vertical scheme with a relatively small footprint reflecting local vernacular yet the interiors are modern. This is an example of sustainable and sensitive design, yet ironically, this type of structure could not be built today given the current ordinance...

We have people who have lived in our units and still say 'we miss that place'. Architecture is about creating a setting for people, and if done well, should instill lasting memories.

What makes this apartment unique

Convenience to interstate, downtown, and Biltmore Village. Surrounded by nature and mountain views. This property offers open space to relax and unwind.

Excellent Location and Host

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this lovely apartment for almost a week during a recent visit to Asheville. It is well maintained, nicely decorated, and in an excellent location. Not far from downtown and interstate access but offers the seclusion of the mountains.

Everything was so comfortable. It was a wonderful retreat after a day of sight seeing. Beats a hotel any day! Sherry Masters is an excellent host and we enjoyed chatting with her. My husband loves the location so much he does not want to share it with anyone :). We will definitely be returning and enjoying the wonderful hospitality.

Great getaway space for a couple

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many places in the Asheville area, and this property is certainly our favorite. When you look at the pictures for some properties and compare it to the reality when you arrive, disappointment can result – but not for this loft. The pictures accurately reflect the warm and cozy feel of this modern mountain getaway. The biggest problem with downtown Asheville is parking, but here you have a reserved space. There are several ways down the mountain, one of which takes you to quirky downtown and the others take you to the chain restaurants and stores east of Tunnel Road in just minutes. There are several grocery stores close to the loft, including an Ingles and Whole Foods. The loft itself is well designed and equipped, with many necessary items in the cabinets and refrigerator. The mountain views from the back windows and sliders are great, and the fireflies at night were a treat. Our hosts, Mark and Sherry, were warm and charming in person, and always extremely responsive to our questions. We are looking forward to our next visit. In closing, I will tell you only two things to watch out for: the timber front step can be slippery when wet (so that’s why there’s a grab rail there, duh!) and watch out for the mama bear and her cubs when walking in the neighborhood!

Great condo close to downtown

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 days and it was very enjoyable. The condo is nicely furnished and very quiet. You are close to the city, 5 minute drive, yet you would never know it. There is easy access to the interstate also if you want to do some sight seeing. The owners were also very responsive our questions and concerns.

It is very up to date and well maintained, which all adds to the experience. Right now we are planning to be in Asheville next summer. This is where we will stay again. It will be like going home.

Terrific!

  • 4 of 5

Sherry was lovely. The setting felt private in nature yet just 10 or 15 min. To downtown Asheville. Contemporary open concept so best for a couple or single.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Judy, We hope your trip home was good, and sorry the flights were so late coming into Asheville - I know you'd have gotten to do more/see more if that hadn't happened! Maybe you can come back another time!

Asheville is known for it's wonderful architecture, art galleries, great restaurants and hip shops. This eclectic city in the mountains is a perfect place to explore and to make as a home base while venturing the mountains of Western North Carolina. The city offers a variety of 'urban' activities while one can spend a lifetime exploring the Southern Appalachians. The highest peak, Mount Mitchell is less than an hours drive via the Blue Ridge Parkway. These lush mountains have attracted visitors for years including George Vanderbilt who set out to build his 'dream house' - The Biltmore, which is a must see for any first-time visitor to the area. One can spend days shopping downtown and eating at some of the best restaurants in the region which offer a wide variety of ethnic tastes. The many craft breweries have touted Asheville as 'Beer City' the past few years and and the art scene is nationally known. Asheville will indeed make a lasting impression.
