Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

This triplex house has everything you need and suits the vacationer or business traveler. The house clings onto the side of the mountain, on a dead-end road, giving one the feel of truly being in the mountains but only 1.5 miles from the center of downtown.

We designed and built the multi-family house in 1993, and the main unit served as our home for several years. This particular 1 bedroom unit is best suited for a couple or small family with a king bed and large sectional sofa for extra sleeping. It is equipped with comfortable furnishings and has a small patio to enjoy the mountain views.

We believe you will truly enjoy your 'repose' time dwelling in this clean, 'clutter free' apartment. It is bright and open, yet very comfortable, cozy and intimate. If you are looking for something sleek, unique, and close to everything, then this apartment will satisfy your vacation desires and help create a memorable stay here in scenic Asheville.

About Sherry Masters

I am a local architect and Asheville native and my wife Sherry is also a native of the area. Sherry has formerly worked as the manager/buyer for Grovewood Gallery for over 20-years and is heavily involved with promoting local arts and crafts. My firm concentrates primarily on healthcare design and other institutional work.

Sherry Masters purchased this apartment in 1993

Why Sherry Masters chose Kenilworth

We built this property as our primary home with rentals units as well and wanted to create a real sense of place on this challenging small, steep lot. The design is a simple vertical scheme with a relatively small footprint reflecting local vernacular yet the interiors are modern. This is an example of sustainable and sensitive design, yet ironically, this type of structure could not be built today given the current ordinance...

We have people who have lived in our units and still say 'we miss that place'. Architecture is about creating a setting for people, and if done well, should instill lasting memories.

What makes this apartment unique

Convenience to interstate, downtown, and Biltmore Village. Surrounded by nature and mountain views. This property offers open space to relax and unwind.

Very nice! Would stay again

While it is tucked in off a narrow lane, once you find this - the accommodations are lovely. Very clean and offers great space. We would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mona, we appreciate your visit! The navigation is a bit tricky, but we rarely have calls for help in finding the property - the map and directions we send are detailed. We are working on a video as well that shows the street intersections.

Perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful mountains in Asheville

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our five night stay in this unit. The apartment is well equipped and furnished very comfortably. It is in a great location and is a short drive to both downtown Asheville and Biltmore. It is very quiet and peaceful and has a great view of the mountains from both floors. The unit feels much larger than you would expect it to be from the pictures. Sherry was very helpful and quick to respond to all of our questions. We feel very fortunate to have discovered this VRBO and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Asheville area. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Asheville.

Wonderful Weekend Away

  • 5 of 5

This property is perfect for a long weekend or even a week spent vacationing in Asheville. We loved the views of the mountains and changing leaves (which can be seen from the bedroom, entire downstairs living room and kitchen, as well as the back patio). The apartment was very clean and tidy, but was also spacious and welcoming. It is a short 5 min Uber ride up the mountain from downtown, but is private and quiet. We will definitely keep this apartment in mind for future Asheville visits!

Beautiful... inside and out

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd visit to Asheville during the month of September (last year we lodged in a hotel... never again!) Sherry's home is just as beautiful as the pictures and it's CLEAN! The area is secluded and the roads are narrow. It took us a few minutes to actually locate the loft (made a wrong turn); called Sherry and she immediately answered and stayed on the phone as we navigated to the property and let ourselves in. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised... as I said, the home was clean, welcoming and the ENERGY felt good. The landscaping is well maintained and beautiful, as well. The mountain views from the bedroom and the shared living space... SPECTACULAR!!! The location is ideal, minutes away from downtown Asheville. We had friends stop through to sit out back and enjoy the view one evening - the only downside was parking (our loft has one parking space assigned - we weren't sure, if it was appropriate for them to park in the available space in front of the building); they parked in the available space for about an hour, and all was well. Thank you, Sherry for maintaining your home - allowing your guest to feel safe and welcomed. Next time we visit Asheville, we hope the loft is available. NOTE: We did see one baby bear scaling the mountainside as we navigated back to the loft one evening... AWESOME!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Teri! I hope we can accommodate you on a future visit! Thank you for your persistence in sending in a review - I know the link didn't work when you originally tried. One of our goals for future is to work even more on landscaping :) for the guests - and not the occasional bear. (they are awesome to see) We have such a low amount of traffic on our road that guests can safely park on the street - but you are right - sometimes there is a extra space available in front of the house. I'll start including that tip in my correspondence right before you arrive. We hope you have a good year ahead, and hope to see you in the new year! Sherry

Asheville is known for it's wonderful architecture, art galleries, great restaurants and hip shops. This eclectic city in the mountains is a perfect place to explore and to make as a home base while venturing the mountains of Western North Carolina. The city offers a variety of 'urban' activities while one can spend a lifetime exploring the Southern Appalachians. The highest peak, Mount Mitchell is less than an hours drive via the Blue Ridge Parkway. These lush mountains have attracted visitors for years including George Vanderbilt who set out to build his 'dream house' - The Biltmore, which is a must see for any first-time visitor to the area. One can spend days shopping downtown and eating at some of the best restaurants in the region which offer a wide variety of ethnic tastes. The many craft breweries have touted Asheville as 'Beer City' the past few years and and the art scene is nationally known. Asheville will indeed make a lasting impression.
