Why Tom Ellicott chose Highlands

We custom built this home in 2006 for the wonderful views and privacy. It's on 4 acres and you can't see or hear other homes. We also love that it's on the Cashier's side of town. That's the best location in Highlands.


The cabin is located 1/2 way between Highlands and Cashiers, but in Highlands. It's about 10 minutes to either town - east or west.

Warm and cozy in the mountains

A wonderful warm and cozy home in the mountains. We loved our stay in this well maintained home. A great location half way between Cashiers and Highlands, central to great hiking, restaurants and golf. We plan to return to enjoy the outdoor deck and screened porch again.

Very nice!

We enjoyed our week stay in this private yet conveniently located home. The thoughtful owners provided many conveniences, no rushing to the store for salt, paper towels, etc. The screened porches and decks were enjoyed--lots of outdoor spaces. The hot tub was an added plus on a cool rainy day! All in all, a very nice, clean and comfortable rental. The owner was very responsive. Thank you.

Great house

This is the best vacation home we have ever rented. We stayed at Whiteside Cabin for the second time and hope to come back in the future. The home is beautiful, comfortable, and well-appointed. While the steps are a little much for a toddler, we mostly stayed on the main level with our two-year-old and didn't have any problems. The location provides easy access to Highlands and Cashiers while being tucked away in a serene neighborhood. The living spaces and bedrooms are comfortable. The outdoor space is AMAZING--four separate outdoor spaces provide plenty of room for relaxing and enjoying nature. And the house is stocked with everything from a coffee grinder to shampoo, so you don't have to worry about traveling with all the odds and ends. We appreciate the home being dog-friendly so we could bring our Dachshund on vacation with us. We had a great time and look forward to returning!

Perfect Getaway

Perfect, perfect, perfect... The home was lovely, the setting was fabulous. Couldn't have asked for anything more. We met Tom, who was delightful. And the recommendations made for restaurants and things to do were spot on! The only disappointment we had was that the home was booked already for the entire month of July, so planning ahead is required if you want to stay at this wonderful location!

Perfect Getaway

Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed this lovely home and the thoughtful attention which has been put into everything in preparation for their guests. The home is generously appointed with everything you'll need for a comfortable visit to the mountains. The property management company was responsive and accommodating although we had no issues to report our entire visit.

As frequent VRBO travelers, we were very impressed with the "essentials" which were readily available had we forgotten them ourselves! Hairdryer, toilet paper, dish soap, paper towels, tin foil, salt & pepper....these are the littlest of things, but it's amazing how frequently we've found ourselves making a run to the store for something basic that no one thought to pack. And for those more inclined to wonder about the "comfort items" this home offered the best of those too. The bedding was luxurious, the towels and pillows plentiful and top quality, and I think we all had some of the best sleep we'd had in months on this getaway. The spa was extremely clean and well maintained and there just isn't a bad thing to say about the cleanliness or offerings of this property.

We took advantage of some of the suggested tourist activities on the homeowner's "fact sheet" about the area, and were not disappointed. The hiking was beautiful (despite being overcast most of our stay) and their suggestions were spot on.

If you are looking for an escape to the Highlands area, don't hesitate to book this home. The layout is nice offering privacy on 3 different levels, 2 common living areas and porches both screened in and open air out every door. A fabulous place if you're visiting this beautiful part of the country anytime of year! Thank you for the hospitality, we wouldn't hesitate to return!
