About Joe

My family have lived in Sausalito since 2011. We moved here from Brooklyn NY.

Joe purchased this house in 2011

Why Joe chose San Francisco Bay Area

Beautiful area with picturesque views overlooking the bay. Its an easy commute to San Francisco, and to points of interest around Marin and north.

What makes this house unique

Relax, and enjoy the great views, the quiet, and abundance of natural beauty that surrounds our house (and entire county) . And walking distance to good dining, the San Francisco Ferry, and the main street in Sausalito.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Staying at Bulkley Avenue was a very pleasant and positive experience for us. Loved the kitchen outfit, everything there to make life easy, especially the knives and saucepans.

Great location, easy walk down to Sausalito and great views from the house.

Wonderful Visit, Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely home from home. Very well located in Sausalito – near historic areas and close to San Francisco. A very comfy house. Beds were all superbly cosy and the house was immaculately clean on our arrival. Joe was a wonderful host and we had a superb easy check in too. The town center is an easy walk (about 5 minutes) and there is lots of great food places nearby as well, and Beautiful views throughout the house. Thank you so much for our wonderful stay.

A difficult review to write

  • 2 of 5

I would struggle to recommend this property in Sausalito. I do lots of online reviews, and don't especially enjoy writing those words. In fact, I don't write them often at all.

There were positives to the stay, including very helpful owners and a brilliant location. Having said that, I would be reluctant to book this property again.

Here's why I feel that way:

--it is not clean enough. Maybe I have high expectations, but food bits on the wall behind the stove, bits of paper and whatever that missed the rubbish bin and remained on the floor beside the fridge, dust on the dining room table, cobwebs on the mantlepiece, grimy windows both inside and out, stains on the fabric shower curtain. I could go on, but you get the idea. We paid a cleaning fee as part of our rental. I felt deeply let down by the condition of the property.

--it is cluttered. It was far too full of random extension cords that went nowhere, tubs of glue, pencils, stacks of magazines, including in the toilets, and looking the worse for wear.

--it feels worn. The sofa, cushions, have seen better days. The sheets had bleach marks in places. The carpet needed cleaning. The walls, especially in the bathrooms, cried out for a coat of paint. The balcony needed sweeping and the dead plants cleared away.

--the garbage bin situation was a challenge. I cleared out the non-recycling rubbish before we left, and found myself jamming it into an already full bin of what seemed unbagged waste. This was a very offputting moment. I left the paper and cans and plastics stacked for the cleaner to handle.

--there is little sound buffer between the rental property and the downstairs flat, where the owners were staying. In truth, this was probably more a problem for them than us.

There were positives:

--extremely helpful owners who were quick to reply to emails, assist with parking, laundry access, TV problems. I can not fault them here. We did flag up concerns about cleanliness as our stay neared an end, and they seemed genuinely surprised.

--a superior location. Sausalito is a beautiful community with wonderful shops and restaurants and easy access to San Francisco by car or the ferry. It provides quick access to the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin headlands, Muir Woods and wine country. And it is sunny when the city is still socked in by fog.

--a quiet neighbourhood. We felt safe and secure in this community. The neighbourhood was extremely peaceful. The views were beautiful.

Hope this is helpful.

Owner's Response: Dear Abby, I am so sorry the cleaning fell short during your stay. I really thrive to offer a spotless place and I am sorry that I did not catch the problem areas before you arrived. We had a substitute cleaning crew before you arrived because our regular team had a family emergency. We normally have a very strong crew that does an excellent job. Also – We'just had all the windows cleaned on both sides. We do have an active spider season late summer in Sausalito - the spider webs go up in a few minutes.. so while the cleaners should find them – they can be remade a short time later. We’ve also had the bathrooms repainted, and I’ve taken to heart your note about there being clutter with extensions and cables etc. and we’ve gotten that resolved. We've also repainted and refunished one of the upstairs bedrooms. I am sorry for the areas the place did not meet your expectations. I haven’t seen this review til now because you were the last rental of the season - and I am just now back on the vrbo site. I’ll contact you directly about refunding your cleaning deposit. I think that is only fair. All best to you and your family, Joe

Feels like home

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect accommodation for a group of teachers celebrating a retirement with friends and two teenagers. We couldn't have asked for better views or friendlier property owners. Located on a hill, (as is most of Sausalito) overlooking the bay, it was convenient for shopping, dining, running, biking and the ferry. It felt like home, comfortable, roomy, clean and big enough for individuals in a larger group to have their space. Muir Woods, Monterey, San Francisco and other Bay Area attractions were easy day-excursions. Parking the van was an issue at the house, but there was public parking a short walk away. Joe's dining suggestions were right on target. We loved our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone needing a home away from home.

Amazing hosts

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for a few days in April 2014 and Joe, the host, has been extremely helpful and accomodating!

The house is ideally located in Sausalito: in less than 5 minutes you can walk to the ferry terminal to go to SF and the views are spectacular from the living room, the bright kitchen and the living room.

Regarding the house itself, we thought it is actually nicer than the pictures. It has a very peaceful and airy atmosphere and you will feel very safe. Also, the kid's room is packed with toys and games, which can be very nice in case of a rainy day. Finally, if you like to cook, you will find everything you need!

Great Location, Easy Access to San Francisco

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for Thanksgiving 2013 as family from different parts of the west coast found this a convenient location. Owner works very hard to please. Location is a 2 minute walk from downtown Sausalito and an easy ferry trip to San Francisco (no car hassles!).

Home is cozy but has amenities that should please most every visitor.

The listing and the photos are accurate.

Great gathering area in the living room with the new television and the views of the bay! Ideal for a group of 4-6 but can accommodate more.

Great restaurants in the area (don't miss Fish) and many shops are sure to keep all entertained.

If there is anything you need I am sure the owner will work with you to make sure you enjoy your stay.
