About Hoyt and Melinda McCurry

We have visited the mountains of Tennessee for ten years and decided this year that we wanted to buy a piece of our own. We were very lucky to find this cabin for sale and after one visit, we were sold. After an extensive search throughout Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the surrounding areas, we could not find a cabin that suited us as this one does. Bordering the creek and the National Park, this cabin has a very calming effect, hence the title to our ad: A Peaceful Creekside Cabin.

Hoyt and Melinda McCurry purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Hoyt and Melinda McCurry chose Cosby

Very affordable vacation spot that is on the quiet side of the Smokies, yet just ten minutes from the Gatlinburg line. The close proximity to Jack's Market means that you won't have to do without any last minute items.

What makes this cabin unique

The Creek and no mountain roads! There is also plenty of space to walk your dog.

GREAT EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 of 5

Just wrapped up a four night stay at "Almost Paradise" and it was everything we expected and more! The owners were very responsive from the time we submitted our request to wrapping things up the day we checked out. They made it so easy! The cabin was great! We enjoyed the jacuzzi, screened porch, wifi, kitchen...everything! The sound of the river was relaxing and we spent quite a bit of time drinking coffee and decompressing. During our vacation we enjoyed restaurants in Cosby, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, hikes to several waterfalls and Clingman's Dome and drives through Cade's Cove. We posted pictures of the cabin and the river to our FB pages and several friends wanted the contact info. We gladly passed it along with our stamp of approval. If you are looking for a great cabin in a great setting at a great price, this is it. We'll be back!

Owner's Response: That is exactly the goal we try to achieve when renting our cabin to our visitors: make everything simple! Planning activities and traveling to your vacation can be quite stressful. We try to make the booking process the easy part with all we have going on in our busy lives. It really makes a big difference from what our guests tell us. Thank you very much for the great review. Spring Break Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I went up to Cosby, Tennessee for Spring Break and some much needed relaxation. Everything was as expected. We have rented cabins before where literally no one else is around, so to have neighbors was a bit different. All in all you don’t even notice them and when we did see them they waved and were very cordial.

The only thing we noticed which was very minute to us but may be a big deal to others in the future was the attention to detail the cleaning company gives the cabin, i.e., beer bottles in the window upstairs and candy and food under the sofa downstairs. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would book again.

Thank you for opening your property up to us Mr. & Mrs. Hoyt; we wish you all the best!

Great cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed Dec 21-24th. We really loved the cabin. It's about 25 minutes outside of Gatlinburg, which was great for us - we wanted to be a little outside of town. The cabin was clean and spacious. We loved the wood burning fireplace and the peaceful roar of the creek. There were only a few things we didn't care for. First, there's no view from the cabin other than the creek. There are neighbors very close to the cabin on either side, and a large building behind the cabin. Not a huge deal for us, just something to be aware of if you're looking for seclusion. The one major problem was the small gravel road leading to the cabin. There are huge ruts in the road, and if your car sits lower to the ground like ours did, you will scrape the bottom of your car. We had to be extremely cautious, especially at night when it was harder to see. Still better than dealing with windy, scary mountain roads, but it does really need to be addressed by whoever is responsible for maintaining it. If you have a truck or SUV, you'd probably be ok. We also got a bit lost trying to find the cabin initially because of our GPS, but we got immediate, friendly assistance when we called the number provided. The owners were great with communicating throughout our booking, and if the gravel road to the cabin gets fixed, we'd definitely stay here again!

What an incredible experience. This was truly the epitome of a relaxing cabin experience!

  • 5 of 5

The perfect combination of being close to both gatlinburg and pigeon forge, and yet still maintains the peaceful quiet cabin in the mountains experience. I will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this to anyone. Thank you so much to the cabin owners for all the details they have put into making this an unforgettable experience for me and my family. Plus the stream running behind the cabins was incredible (not to mention the immaculate hot tub on the back deck)!

Dirty

  • 1 of 5

Well.. our cabin, “Almost Paradise” with Mountain Brook Cabins, was a bust, to say the least. It’s in a lovely location along a tiny creek in Cosby, so about 25 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and 40ish minutes from the strip in Pigeon Forge.

When we got here, we dropped our stuff and left to go get dinner and see Christmas lights. When we returned to go to bed, we opened the sofa bed for our kids only to find dirt, debris and dead bugs littering the mattress..it was gross. Then, the upstairs room was covered in cob webs.

I sent the owner a message and the response I received was simply “Leave what you’ve found un disturbed so that the housekeeper can document that for themselves. I will follow up.” ... no, “I apologize for the inconvenience” or anything of that sort.. very cold and not the attitude we usually get and expect from cabin owners.

So I texted the housekeeper this morning and told them what the issues were and that I’d like the cabin cleaned, including a clean mattress sheet and the cob webs removed from the bedroom (they were literally hanging over the bed on the walls). We get back to the cabin after the housekeeper visit to a bag of sheets on the same sofa mattress protector and the rest of the cabin ignored. Not to mention, we also discovered that the stovetop and utensils next to it are also covered in grease and the TV stand caked in dust.

It worries me that it’s so disgusting.. were the bed sheets cleaned after the last guest? The bathrooms? Was the hot tub sanitized?

My daughter has a dust mite allergy, and when I pay as much as I did for 3 nights in a cabin I expect it to be clean enough to not have to administer allergy meds. There are cob webs EVERYWHERE. Some with dead bugs swinging from them. I just can’t believe I paid as much as I did for it to be this disgusting.

I sent the owner another message following the housekeeper’s visit and got no response. I never got a “follow up” from the owner about the issue.

I didn’t ask for a refund or anything of that sort, and I’m not writing a bad review to receive one, but I am leaving my cabin this morning disappointed and will surely never book this cabin again or refer this cabin to anyone.

Owner's Response: Readers of this review, look at the these two reviews: one titled "Loved this cabin, quaint and clean", the other titled "What an incredible experience". These are the guests that stayed just prior to and just after this guest. My housekeeper confessed that she forgot to pull and check the sleeper sofa. She did go upstairs and removed the lone cobweb. What was most strange, this guest claims to have been unsatisfied with the cabin, but never requested to be relocated by VRBO which they were entitled to. They chose to stay in a cabin that they were so unhappy with and then ask for a refund?

Loved this cabin. Quaint and clean. Perfect distance from lots to do.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the cabin! The only negative was the big building right across the creek from the cabin and the camper parking lot. But there is still plenty of privacy with the shades pulled on the back porch where the jacuzzi sits. We love the fact that the jacuzzi is emptied and refilled after each guest leaves. The cabin had everything we needed and was very clean! Even a nice selection of movies to watch.
