About George La Rue

Hi Everyone, ALOHA! We are George and Sandy proud parents of 6 sons and 3 sweet granddaughters. Sandy retired as a school psychologist and George as a university professor. We welcome you to our Big Island vacation home where you can enjoy our local area for its beaches, body surfing, swimming, dancing, hiking, and biking.

George La Rue purchased this house in 2011

Why George La Rue chose Waikoloa Village

Sandy has connections with Hawaii from growing up in a military family on Oahu. We honeymooned and made family vacations on the different islands for years before we decided to retire on the Big Island. We like to be active and involved in our community. Our neighborhood is a well-established, thriving, and beautiful community with many active clubs and ways to volunteer as well as nearby services and shopping. You can feel how friendly and respectful neighbors are and know that it is safe to walk, jog, bike and relax here. It feels like we are part of something bigger than just ourselves. Simply feels like we belong and we will spend the rest of our lives here.

What makes this house unique

We love our house because of the panoramic ocean and mountain views! The cooling trade winds and sunny skies make swimming outdoors and relaxing around the pool comfortable. We enjoy sitting underneath the night skies watching the moon and the stars. We appreciate life so much more every day by enjoying our Hawaiian home.

Wonderful Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have now visited George and Sandy's place twice now. This is the perfect place to enjoy your Big Island Adventures. The house has one of the greatest views on the planet. It is very peaceful and private here and this allows you to enjoy your vacation with zero worries! The pool and deck area is amazing and it will be hard to leave here. The only thing that could draw you away from this house is to see and experience all of the adventures the Big Island has to offer. This home makes it feel like you can live here if just for a short period of time. George and Sandy are great and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need to feel at home.

Owner's Response: Aloha and Mahalo, Wow, thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and lengthy review. We think you appreciate life so much and it shows because both times that you stayed with us, you have also made it very pleasantly memorable for us. Our feedback from the condition you left the house was nothing short of outstanding! Our house cleaners and property manager are more than happy to clean and serve for us after your stay. You left everything ship-shape, and better than what is expected! Please do return for more BI adventures as you really seem to enjoy yourselves here. The island energy speaks to you and does you good! We hope you will again consider staying with us on your next family Hawaiian vacation. THANK YOU very much, Until then, Best to you, George & Sandy

Paradise in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We choose George and Sandy’s private piece of paradise to celebrate our wedding anniversary and are thankful that they allowed us to stay! The property is fantastic and located in a quiet neighborhood. The house is very large and it was wonderful to have a pool to enjoy by ourselves. We found the kitchen to be well stocked and were able to find everything that we needed to prepare our meals. The views are truly amazing and we found ourselves on the lanai watching the sunset each evening in total awe. We have visited the Big Island numerous times having done most of the tourist things so we knew this would be an ideal location and that it was. We do have a very things that we enjoy on each visit to the Big Island such as visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and eat at the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi to name a couple. Thank you again and we plan on returning!

Owner's Response: Having special occasions to celebrate is a great reason to choose our vacation home. Certainly the privacy of having your own pool really makes it very nice. Our neighbors really are terrific, respectful and responsible. We really enjoy cooking so hope our guests get to cook if they want on vacation, which not everyone likes to do! Having more outdoor time on vacation is what makes life so enjoyable and relaxing. Yes, I agree that the Volcano National Park is a favorite. I will have to check out the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi, sounds interesting already! You were perfect guests, and we appreciate you - hope you do return to us, Mahalo/ Aloha!

Perfect Island Get Away

  • 5 of 5

This was my families first time to the Big Island of Hawaii although we have been to other Hawaiian Islands many times. This was the perfect place to be on the Big Island! The view from this home is AMAZING!! We could have stayed at the property the entire time enjoying the view, the privacy and the pool and had a great vacation without seeing anything else! The house was the perfect distance from all of the resort areas but still very close to some of the best beaches on the entire island. The grocery store nearby was very reasonable for shopping for all of your grocery needs and helped us same a lot of money. The house was very private and quiet. It was easy to forget you even had neighbors. Perfect for families looking for quiet alone time! We explored all over the island and had an amazing time but we always looked forward to coming home and watching the gorgeous view of the sunset from this property!!

Owner's Response: We can really tell from your review how much you enjoyed your vacation! Thank you for selecting to stay with us for your first BI visit; and, that it went so well! We appreciate that you and your wife needed to schedule your vacation very far in advance in order to coordinate your job responsibilities with your kids' school breaks. It is tough to be able to re-book reservations when plans change. We are so glad it all worked out for everyone!. It is because of families such as yourselves that we love sharing our home. Everything you expressed really touched our hearts and we look forward to the possibility that you will choose to return someday soon! Mahalo!

Large well spaced home, plenty of room to relax and enjoy. Three very large bedrooms, each with their own large bathrooms, all with double sinks and showers. One had a tub and shower. The kitchen has enough room for 4-5 people to be cooking and preparing meals at once. The living room has enough seating for 8 with a tabled sitting area as well. The lanais extend the length of the house adding to living space. There were times when we had trouble finding each other, it is that big.

We especially enjoyed the pool. Our family consisted of 3 adult couples and 9 month old baby. We never were in each other's way, there was always areas for privacy. The home is well maintained. There are all the necessities you need. The views are breath taking.

It was so hard to leave. We could not say enough great things about it.

Claudia the manager was very friendly and helpful, though our only contact was by phone.

The owners answered many questions and concerns we had promptly via email while we were booking and before our arrival.

My husband golfed 7 times at the nearby course, there is a pass that allows for a special rate. There is a shopping centre nearby that had groceries, gas, restaurant, and outdoor food court, etc. We found this most handy. The beaches nearby are all nice. We like the 3 beaches at the Mauna Lani resort the best. There are petroglyphs nearby that are worth seeing. There are walking paths at the King and Queens resort which we often went to in the evening. We went to the volcano, Kona, Manta Ray night dive, helicopter tour, Wild Ocean Adventure, Hilo, Wiamea, etc.

Overall our experience was truly enjoyable and we hope to be able to return. We would recommend this home to anyone. Our only regret was that we only stayed for 2 weeks.

Owner's Response: Aloha/Mahalo Deb, thank you wholeheartedly as you blessed us with your kind words about your recent vacation with us. We certainly enjoyed your outstanding review that highlighted how much you enjoyed the swimming pool. Carol maintains the pool so that it is sparkling and clean in spite of the winds at times. We are also glad we could accommodate 6 adults very nicely for socializing time as well as for privacy and even with a baby! George and I both high-fived on your comment *There were times when we had trouble finding each other, it is that big.* We are grateful that you found the house floor plan spacious, good for fixing meals together as well as relaxing on the lanais. We are so glad you found the location and amenities such a good fit for your adventures. We certainly appreciate your gratitude towards our property manager who does her best to make guests feel welcome and comfortable, and still protect their privacy. We especially like that you made frequent use of our Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Golf Course! Your Hawaiian vacation sounds like the one we wish for everyone! Your review also shows exceptional planning on your part to include so many great adventures in only 2 weeks time! Lots of activities are such a reward in and by themselves, but being able to unwind and enjoy relaxing at the house together afterwards is what sets us apart from your other lodging options in the area. Hope you can return some day to the Big Island and we would love you to choose to stay with us again! Mahalo! George and Sandy

Exactly as advertised!

We've rented through VRBO many times and have never been disappointed but this house was the best yet! The view on the lanai is AMAZING! The amount of living space outside is like having another room. We really enjoyed getting up in the morning and visiting while sitting on the lanai drinking our coffee. One thing we were pleasantly surprised with was how quiet it was. It is in a neighborhood and we expected the typical neighborhood hum but it was actually as if there were no neighbors at all. The drive down to the beach area (on the road we called "Goat Road") is short and staying in the house away from the touristy beach area was well worth the drive. The home is very large and spacious. Kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed to cook our dinners at home. There are so many areas to eat that we would change dinner locations every night because we wanted to use the whole house! The other thing that some of us enjoyed was the baby geckos in the house. At least I think they were babies or just very small geckos. We had them in the bathrooms and one in the kitchen in a basket that hung out for awhile. So cute! If I had to say something that would make it even better would be to have more beach items such as beach chairs and floaties to take to the beach. But, that's very minor compared to what you get for the price! Also, the owners and managers are excellent to work with! We left on a Monday and received our deposit in the mail by that Friday! You can't get any quicker than that! We would definitely rent this house again if we return to this island.
