About Jim or Carman Taylor
This is part of the home place with the family farm. I grew up here and left to go to college and worked in Atlanta. Moving back home after retiring to quiet and simple life. I have updated cottage .. The porch gives you the most outstanding sunsets you have every witnessed and when the moon is out the view above the river looks like diamonds glistening.
Jim or Carman Taylor purchased this Cottage in 1997
Why Jim or Carman Taylor chose Smithbridge
This is part of the farm home place. I have an organic garden and fruit trees. The cottage has a paved driveway and very quiet. The Little Tennessee River below the cottage was once home of the Cherokee Indian Village. We still find pottery and arrows and tools from rocks.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage has a Little Tennessee River view that is very quiet. The River is one of the few that runs North. Bring your fishing pole to try your luck at a great catch .There 4 private waterfall on the property, several walking and log mountain trails to follow. The private streams have lots of minerals as ruby and specks of gold to pan. The afternoon sunset are of different colors and changes very fast with each view more beautiful.

There is only one word to describe the cottage and that is PERFECT, from the time you walk in the door to find a wonderful pound cake and a card welcoming you to the cottage along with a list of favorite places to eat. We were celebrating our anniversary, Jim and Carman had a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge. We could not have asked for a more peaceful relaxing perfect place to stay. Thank you Jim and Carman for sharing your perfect cottage with us. We will be back for another stay.
Good location, great views, perfect for 2!
The cottage was easy to get to, very comfortable, loved the hike to the waterfalls, loved sitting on the front porch enjoying the view. Would consider staying again.

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION- CANT WAIT TO RETURN
If ever there was a PERFECT getaway.. this would be it. We celebrated my 50th birthday by planing a last minute trip to NC. It was our first vacation together, and due to life priorities, my first time away from my children in over 18 YEARS. This cottage was not to disappoint. Carman and Jim are the nicest people and made our stay effortless. The cottage has everything we needed, and wanted. We truthfully, never left once we got settled in with groceries, and necessities. The property has everything we could have spent days looking for and dollars paying for. Hiking trails, streams, panning for gold and copper, waterfalls, fishing, relaxing, napping, marathon movie watching, cooking a yummy dinner and sitting on the front porch listening to the soft sound of our chosen music playing while the Tennessee river runs right down In front of the cottage ... it was perfection in and of itself. The fire pit going in the evening, the rain on the tin roof in the afternoon for our power nap, and the spectacular swings that have a different view from each one were just a few of the amenities that come with staying at this property. There isn’t a more reasonably priced, bang for our buck, property anywhere...Carman and Jim were most helpful. From directions to the smallest detail, they were a call or text away, though NEVER intrusive. The sweetest bday card, slices if heavenly homemade cake were on the counter waiting when we arrived. I promise you, this property is nothing short of perfect for a couples long weekend getaway or small family’s vacation. Thank you Carman and Jim for making my 50th birthday the most memorable bday yet!! We are so grateful for your hospitality and cant wait to come back, truthfully, we would have preferred to never leave! We are pulling out our planning calendars this week to book again SOON. Save our spot on the front porch, we can hardly wait to return. Sydney and Phil
Good for the soul!
Carman and Jim are gracious hosts and personify Southern hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I was enchanted by this cottage. Fresh flowers, lemon pound cake and a handwritten note welcomed me. I sat on the porch and immediately felt at home and peaceful. The views are as described but even better when seen in person. The cottage is so comfortable and filled with little touches that mean so much.
During my five-night stay, I wanted for nothing. The kitchen was stocked with everything (pots and pans, utensils and dishes) I needed for cooking my own meals. There are books, maps, guides galore. Little notes from Carman are sprinkled throughout the cottage. I even received a personalized restaurant guide which listed their favorite places to eat.
The cottage is one lot over from their home. The trees block the view of other homes and I felt as if I was the only one on the street. This location offers privacy and independence, but not total isolation. The driveway is paved and, while steep, is very doable in a passenger car. The gravel road leading to the property is well maintained. There are two towns nearby which offer restaurants and shopping. Leaving paradise to shop was hard to do though!
Their property has trails and waterfalls which I hiked and photographed. The property is full of rhododendrons larger than I have ever seen before. The waterfalls were small but beautiful. Exploring the trails was a daily favorite for me. The owners' dog, Ava, would accompany me on my walks and she is a very alert companion (as well as sweet).
I cannot recommend this cottage enough. Romantic for a couple, cozy and welcoming for a single and mountain views that change with the weather. Every window has a view! Sitting on the porch was one of my favorite things to do during my stay. Swings with hidden faces, notes tucked in drawers, hidden falls to be discovered and so much more await.
The cottage was immaculate and the love the owners have for this place is evident. I would highly recommend this cottage and the pleasure of meeting the owners to anyone. Staying here was so good for my soul.
Perfect for a couples get away.
The owners are extremely helpful. We took their restaurant recommendation and ate at Wile Thyme, it was fantastic. Close to the hiking we wanted to do. We had a camp fire each evening and enjoyed the sunsets. I'd go back next weekend if I could!
