Nice Oasis!

  • 4 of 5

House was clean, and the backyard looked like we were tucked away in a secluded forest. The kitchen was very well-stocked with cookware, appliances, utensils, coffee and spices. The beds were comfortable and warm. The bathrooms were stocked with soap, shampoo & conditioner, insect repellant, no body lotion. The fireplace in the living room was wonderful especially when we woke up one morning to 46 degrees....brrrr! The water filter system makes a few funky noises for a short while early in the morning, otherwise the house is very quiet.

House is 5 minutes away from Volcano National Park, so we went in & out a couple of times. It was convenient to drive in to see the glow of the volcano at night without having to drive far in the dark. Unfortunately, the evening was cloudy, otherwise the night sky can be spectacular! We enjoyed the visit to the art gallery next to the Visitor's Center, where there's lots of stuff by local artists.

The Farmers Market in Volcano Village was fun with produce, local crafts and ready-to-eat food. It opens 6:30 - 10:00am.

We had a great time in the house & wish we could've stayed longer!

lovely home and convenient location

  • 5 of 5

Very nice space that worked well for our family of 5 adults and one toddler. We got soaked hiking in Volcano National Park one morning and it was great to be able to go "home" and get dry clothes before heading out again. The gas fireplace made for a very cozy atmosphere, especially since it rained a lot while we were visiting. We were disappointed there was no lava flowing, but it was still a fascinating place to visit. It's easy, quick, (and very cool) to drive back into the park from the house at night to see the glowing/bubbling crater from the Jaggar Museum.

Recommendation: buy groceries in Hilo, prices in Volcano are REALLY high, even by Hawaiian standards. Also, we had a very tasty lunch from the Thai food truck in Volcano, which is parked next to the community center (with picnic tables, restrooms, and a playground.) We also loved the black sand beach 20 miles South, and saw 5 turtles there.

Comfortable, clean, good location

  • 5 of 5

We appreciate the very prompt response from owners (or managers) of the property when we had a couple of questions before our stay and their follow up at the end of the stay. Everything was as presented online.

Wish we could have had a 11:00 AM checkout time instead of 10:00 AM. I know it had to be cleaned for the guests arriving that same day, but 10:00 AM is a little early when you can't check-in until 3:00 PM. One other small need to replace the large frying pan. It has a very rounded, warped bottom and is difficult to use.

Overall, though, a very good few days away from Kona. Mele Kalikimaka

Very comfortable, well stocked home.

We spent a few days exploring Volcano National Park and would highly recommend staying in Volcano to anyone else who is considering visiting the Park. It's just minutes away, very convenient. This home was very well maintained and very well stocked, and very comfortable. Lovely grounds also. We stopped in Hilo to do a little shopping before arriving in Volcano as groceries are limited there. We did eat dinner at a couple of the local restaurants and found the food to be fine. We especially enjoyed the Thai restaurant. We spent 3 nights at this property and actually wished we had spent longer. We could have used another day in the Park and would have liked to explore the southeast part of the island a bit more. Staying at this property was very convenient for night viewing of the volcano. We would highly recommend this property, and would love to stay here again should we visit the big island in the future.
