About Vacasa, CA - San Diego County Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s familys summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Nice location; property needs work....

 • 3 of 5

About us and our visit: my wife and I and two teenaged boys stayed at the Yellow Cottage the full week prior to Thanksgiving. Some positives and negatives for your consideration -

On the positive side: location is near-perfect, with the bay only a block away on one side, and the Pacific Ocean less than a five minute walk the other direction. Both have miles-long bike paths great for walking, running, biking or skateboarding. We really enjoyed the walks and the views along these paths. The cottage is also walking distance from coffee shops, breakfast, and others small shops. Overall, great location. Having parking right there was a big plus, as parking is extremely sparse in this neighborhood. Close proximity to I-5, La Jolla (check out the tide pools!) and the bay.... The cottage was fairly clean and nice; access was easy with the lockbox; the local contact was very helpful and responsive when we had questions or issues, which we did....

On the negative side: it's surrounded by narrow alleyway-streets which are the only way in or out; occasional traffic could be noisy at times. Another noise factor was the neighbors... half the nights there, nearby guests were partying pretty loudly - I'd recommend bringing earplugs. The master bedroom is very nice with its own bath, but the second bedroom is tight, especially with twin beds, which were tight for 6 foot tall teenage boys. The kitchen is great to have for local meal prep, but the range was VERY hard to light and control the flame levels; the oven is extremely hard to start, and you have no idea what the temperature is. We nearly burned a pizza, not knowing if the oven was at 300 or 450. Not good. Ants. Yikes... pretty frequent, tiny ants most of the stay, which we had to wipe up numerous times. No ice maker in the freezer. The screen door to the patio is very rusty and in need of replacement. Finally, remember the "BO" part of VRBO? It's not, in this case. You're not renting from the owner, you're renting from an agency, with an additional fee, which was not initially clear. This was very frustrating and annoying.

Net:net - was it a nice place? You bet. Is it a nice neighborhood? No doubt... it's beautiful. With some minor maintenance updates, this place will rock. As is, it's not quite there now....

The Yellow Cottage - nice location, needs some serious TLC.....

 • 3 of 5

This place was, overall somewhat of a disappointment.... good location, though we had a few nights with partying neighbors who made it hard to get to sleep... not good if you have kids.... great, short walk to both the bay side and the ocean beach, which has a wonderful bike path always busy with bikers, runners, walkers, skaters, etc..... The Yellow Cottage itself? It's seen better days, to be sure.... rusty doors; sticking interior doors; range/oven that both seriously need to be updated - they don't work well and are hard to regulate and even light, and the oven is REALLY hard to light and there's no way to know what temperature you have it at.... all in all the owners need to put some $$$ into this place to bring it up to snuff.... it was also very disappointing and frustrating to go to VRBO and NOT be dealing with the owners.... what happened to the "BO" part of VRBO?

Owner's Response: We wish this guest had called about their concerns so we could do our best to address them during their stay. The owner has days set apart in December for repairs and painting that will address many of these issues. Thank you!

Very comfortable

 • 4 of 5

Smaller than I thought. Parking was small but our Durango fit, backing in worked best. But house was cozy, clean, comfortable and accommodating to our weekend getaway. :) We loved the big patio for BBQing. Staff was wonderful, easy to work with. We would stay there again.

We've rented a number of homes on Mission Beach and this is among the very, very best. Clean, convenient, cozy and comfy. Our LandCruiser had enough space in the parking spot, the neighborhood was extremely friendly, the location couldn't be better and Ana was exceptionally responsive. We are DEFINITELY returning!!!
