This historic property, our Guest House, has been tastefully and comfortably restored. It was built over 100 years ago. It is located on its own cove with your own private island accessible at low tide. The sun porch that stretches the full width of the house offers an incredible view of the cove, only a few feet away. Houses cannot be built this close to the water any longer. Numerous wildlife has been observed from the sun porch, including a pair of Bald Eagles, Osprey, ducks, and Loons. The house has a fully equipped kitchen with eat-in-area. The living room has a Franklin Stove, allowing the creation of a cozy setting on those sometimes cool Maine evenings. The two bedrooms upstairs offer a nice retreat. This house is ideal for a couple or a small family. The setting is very private and very beautiful. The rock garden blooms summer long with a variety of flowers. The lawn allows one to easily beach a canoe or a kayak. We have just added a screened porch which adds a chance to observe the outdoors in comfort. Hiking trails maintained by the Vinalhaven Land Trust are a close walk away.Crockett's Cove offers boaters wonderful surprises, such as reversing falls, Whitmore Pond, and other small islands to explore or stop for lunch..It is an easy drive to town or to the landing for North Haven Island. This is the guest house for the main house (the Cottage). If our guest house does not work for you, take a look at the Cottage at VRBO 857705. We also charter a 20'-0" sailboat.

About John H.Williams
Our family has been vacationing on Vinalhaven for many years. We stay in the Cottage located a few hundred yards from our guest house. A meadow separates the two houses. They each have their own view of Crockett's Cove. The guest house is a fisherman's cottage that we restored, adding modern features but retaining the character of the house.

Sweet house, beautiful cove
Crocketts Cove is one of VH's treasures. The house is lovely, the porch is perfect and nothing beats a paddle around the cove or watching the sunset (or eclipse this summer) over Penobscott Bay from Tip Toe.
We really enjoyed our stay! So quiet and peaceful. Will coordinate our next visit better to the tides so that we'll be able to swim in the ocean somewhere but not at the cottage. Dream on - It would be so nice to have a dock at the cottage so we could swim in the beautiful cove at high tide. The cove was always was very inviting for swimming. We did not have a chance to swim in the quarries. We took an A+ canoe trip to the head of the cove one beautiful afternoon.
Next time we will bring more food for home cooked meals. Although we had a spectacular dinner at Salt, the other restaurants in town weren't very good. One day, a fair young lad named Will took us over to North Haven on a rainy Friday where the restaurant was understaffed and only serving lobster rolls and chowder. That experience was underwhelming. On the other hand, we thoroughly enjoyed our nature walks on as many of the Land Trust preserves we could get to in the one week we were there.
The cottage is beautifully maintained. It has an over abundance of furniture and could do with some paring down. We each bumped our heads hard, but only once, going upstairs, and we are not tall people. The upstairs bedrooms were low on head room, and we used the second bedroom as our dressing room. It would be uncomfortable for 4 adults, but it was perfect for the two of us.
The kitchen was organized and contained everything a good cook needed. I put the stick matches into a Ziploc bag knowing it would keep they dry and usable for longer.
I brought my Honda sedan for a vehicle. We did not know we would be driving on so many dirt roads (which were all well maintained.) Wish we had an SUV for porting canoes/kayak to other areas.
Thank you so much, John and Susan Williams for the most wonderful vacation!!
Wonderful, relaxing, perfect vacation
We have stayed at this property before, and loved it just as much (maybe even more, if that's possible!) this past year. Sitting out on the new deck/porch and just watching the wildlife in the cove (or the sunrise) was a highlight, as was going out in the canoe. The house is very comfortable and well-equipped, and John is a very responsive host. We had everything we needed for a fantastic week on the island, and hope to return again very soon! Thank you so much John & family!
We had a wonderful time at this cottage. John, the owner, was very considerate and prompt in answering our questions (mostly about the ferry). The house sits right near a nest where we watched osprey come and go to feed their young. We took frequent rides in the canoe and waded through the mud at low tide. It could not have been a more perfect vacation.
The house itself is small but was clean and there were plenty of dishes, utensils etc for an extended stay. I agree with past reviewers that the house has too much furniture and could do with a bit of modernizing of whatever is left behind, but this did not take away from its charm our our enjoyment.
Just as promised nice clean small cottage in a beautiful quiet location on the water
Great location nice small cottage with character
Neat tidy cottage right on Crockett's Cove.
I may be a little prejudiced because this used to be my grandparents home back in the 40's and 50's. My parents would bring us here every summer for a week or so. The house has been beautifully restored and looks almost exactly the way I remembered it. It's actually a lot better now because when we used to visit in the 50's there was a generator for electricity and the water supply was a hand pump at the kitchen sink and now there's hot & cold running water and municipal electricity. We had a great time hiking, kayaking, and bicycling all over the island. Lot's of wildlife at the house; rabbits, ospreys, and one morning there was a 8-10 point whitetail deer on the lawn right outside the window. I would definitley recommend this to anyone. It's quiet and relaxing on a dead end road with lots of privacy. John, the owner called during our visit to see how we were doing and we had a great discussion about some of the history of the house. We hope to go bach there again next summer.
