"A Mellow Mixture of Comfort and Class, LOVED it!"

~ Peacefully posed on a beautiful bluff and overlooking an incredible valley and beyond, this stunning home with a hot tub is set in the center of eight private acres and is ideally located just outside the town of Mariposa, very near Yosemite National Park. This central location makes for EASY access into the two most popular entrances to Yosemite, both just a short and scenic drive from the house. Convenient, clean and comfortable, The Vineyard House is a destination, not just another place to stay.

The living room here is long and spacious and includes a sofa, love seat and armchair as well as children’s furniture and more. This ensemble surrounds the stone fireplace and behind it is the Piano.

In the corner of the room you’ll find the entertainment center with a flatscreen TV, complete with satellite service & extensive channels to choose from. There's a DVD/VCR player, stereo system w/iPod port, puzzles, board games, a bookcase full of interesting books and novels as well as a varied selection of movies.

At the opposite end of this room is the front entry and casual seating at the counter where you’ll find the computer center and phone. Beyond this area is the big, open kitchen with all new appliances, gas stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, extensive cooking utensils and new tile counter tops. Across this room is the delightful dining area that comfortably seats up to six, the open floor plan here allows for comfortable, uncrowded companionship and the views from this room are amazing.

Vineyard View is one of the very few that is obligingly set up for the kids. We make a real effort here to cater to families traveling with children and offer the use many baby/child items. The fenced yard, playground & swing are an uncommon find in a vacation rental home.

The large, Master bedroom is located in the back of the house and has an Eastern King bed, Flat Screen TV with SEPARATE SATELLITE RECEIVER, a vanity/sink, private sitting area and large windows overlooking the magnificent views of the grounds and beyond.

The second bedroom is also at the back of the house, opposite the Master bedroom and has a King bed, reading area and large windows with beautiful views. These two rooms share the big, luxurious hall bath that is all new, complete with a claw foot tub below a picture window, a corner shower and mosaic tile floor. Conveniently, this bathroom sits between the bedrooms (so no shared wall between them) and is accessible from the hallway so no traipsing though someone’s bedroom to get there.

In addition, there is a Queen-size Wall Bed in the living room (standard Sealy mattress, very comfortable); guests staying here have a door between this room and the hallway that offers total privacy from the other two bedrooms when closed. There is also a quaintly done bedroom in the large utility room where guests using the Wall-Bed can enjoy a private place for their personal belongings as well as their own full bath and a single bed for quiet afternoon naps.

~~ AND the OUTSIDE… ~~

You’ll find yourself in a magical place that will take your breath away. The area surrounding the home is flat, open and dotted with giant Oaks, Cedars and Pines, and the View, …well,… it’s incredible. Just 30 feet from the back of the house are a bench and garden swing to sit in while you enjoy the vast panorama of the valley, vineyard and beyond.

Right out the back door is the small, fenced yard, to one side is the children’s playground and to the other is the redwood table, great for outdoor dining. The firepit (seasonal) is next to this table.

Pass through the garden gate on out to the open area, this is where you’ll find the tree-swing, the spa as well as yet another table and chair combination. Full-size, well-kept and in one of the most incredible locations you’ll ever find, this hot tub is an amazing treat, the night sky is completely unobstructed and the stars from here are insane. Distant city lights twinkle and the quiet is remarkable, you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven and will never want to get out. ;-)

Why stay in Mariposa as opposed to 'IN' the park?? Check the LOCATION 'in Yosemite'! Fish Camp and Wawona require nearly the same travel time to Yosemite Valley as does Mariposa but Hwy 140 from Mariposa allows for faster travel year-round (it's 25-35 mph. 'inside' Yosemite, not so on Hwy 140), and FAR safer travel in the winter months (this Hwy being the ONLY 'All-Weather' highway, remaining open during all four seasons). PRIVACY is another reason, 'in Yosemite' also tends to mean 'in a development', check on NEIGHBOR PROXIMITY, expected NOISE levels and PARKING access, our Mariposa places are all PRIVATE, secluded, QUIET and have plenty of convenient parking. ACCESS TO TOWN, make sure you won't be wanting the convenience of being five to ten minutes from all that our quaint, historic town has to offer if you do decide to stay 'inside Yosemite', and be prepared to plan accordingly... access to town from Vineyard View is a snap! And finally, COST... We simply offer more, for less ;-).

**4 hours from Los Angeles

**2.5 hours from the Greater SF Bay Area/San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose International Airports.

** 1 hour from Fresno International Airport

**35 minutes from Yosemite National Park (via Hwy 140, and the drive is magnificent)

**50 minutes to YOSEMITE VALLEY via the ARCH ROCK ENTRANCE, Hwy, 140

**1.25 hours to Badger Pass Ski Resort

**55 minutes from YOSEMITE'S south (Hwy 41) entrance, (GLACIER POINT, Wawona, GIANT SEQUOIAS etc.)

**10 minutes to town (Mariposa), 25 min. to Oakhurst, 35 min to Bass Lake

Just 8 miles from the town of Mariposa, Vineyard View is conveniently (and quietly!) located just five minutes off Highway 140, the beautiful “all weather highway” to Yosemite which winds through the scenic Merced River Canyon. While staying here you’re able to avoid both the crowds, and the traffic and yet Yosemite National Park is just 29 miles away. Located at 2900 ft in elevation, it's sure to get an occasional, yet manageable amount of snow without causing difficult access or travel.

The Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg is just 11 miles away and has small, sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing, hiking, and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting and kayaking.

You can easily enjoy Yosemite's south entrance from here too which is up Hwy. 41, outside of Oakhurst. Traveling that direction you’ll see things such as the world famous Mariposa Grove’s Giant Sequoias, Goat Meadow Winter Sports Area where you can let the kids play and sled in the snow, beautiful Bass Lake with it's water sports, beaches and restaurants and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad adventure, just to name a few.

About Kirsty

Jerry and I are both semi-retired professionals and consider ourselves extremely fortunate to live so close to Yosemite. We are local, managing owners who live a convenient 4 miles away from this home (we do not reside 'on-site' at either of our two rental properties, rest assured your stay with us will remain private). We have over 50 combined years living in the Yosemite area and are nearly always available for assistance without EVER being underfoot or intrusive.

We take our business of providing superior accommodations to our valued guests very seriously and are vigilant in our efforts to ensure your stay is an excellent one, just read our reviews to see how "we do vacation rentals right".

We do tend to book up well in advance so availability is continually changing, the availability calendar is updated immediately following every confirmed booking but can be as much as 24 hours off, based on pending reservations.

We hope to see you soon at Vineyard View!!

Kirsty purchased this house in 2005

Why Kirsty chose Mariposa

As you may have suspected by now, we are the owners of two of the vacation rental homes in the Mariposa area (see ID 45877), both are within 5 miles of one another. When we purchased this home in 2004, it had been 'let go' but we saw the potential it had and immediately fell in love with both its location, with that breathtaking view, and flat, Oak studded usable acreage as well as with the home's inherent, classic allure and convenient floor plan. The place just won our hearts and we knew that with a lot of creative, hard work it could once again become a masterpiece. And it has. Come and see for yourself!

**OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE** This home's driveway, unlike MANY in our rural mountain area, is located right off a quiet, paved country road, you won't be forced to navigate miles of steep, rough, un-paved, muddy/dusty, or rutted dirt roads to reach this getaway (something to seriously consider when making your vacation rental choice as you'll likely be making the drive many times). The gravel driveway allows for virtually any (all-wheel drive is always recommended in snow) vehicle to easily access the property year-round and the surrounding roads are quickly plowed in the case of occasional, Mariposa snowfall.

Extremely clean, convenient open floor plan, more amenities than most can imagine and reputable, experienced managing owners make this place an outstanding choice for one's getaway or vacation.

What makes this house unique

Although a short distance from Yosemite itself, staying at The Vineyard House (or our other vacation rental, SierraScape) provides visitors a combined element of peace, privacy and affordability that accommodations inside the park cannot.

If you’re looking to be conveniently close to Yosemite (AND a cute little town) but would prefer to not spend your vacation placed in an over-crowded development or conventional hotel then we may have JUST what you’re looking for!

A few of the more unique benefits you'll find here are the comfortable, high-quality mattresses we provide, the incredible view, the walking distance to a winery and being so close to town, yet well away from the highway.

Our guests seem to very much enjoy having a piano to play, the Ping Pong table and the tree swing as well as the assistance they receive from the use of the personalized, competent local information that's provided for them to refer to while planning their stay.

We often hear how enjoyable the night sky and sunsets here are too and of particular importance seem to be the non-toxic, earth-friendly environment and the abundant wildlife - Birds galore (including our resident Hawk, Ansell), deer in the yard on a daily basis, our shy Red Fox, the Wild Turkey flock and more.

And of course all the things for the children.... When they're happy, everyone's happy ;-)

Guestbook comments from the owner

Kirsty- I wanted to Thank You for all you did to make our first ever family vacation a very successful experience, even with the rainy weather. Vineyard View was a perfect match for our grandchildren. They really enjoyed playing in the back yard. Our last night there we had the pleasure of seeing seven deer- it was so thrilling for our three and a half year old grandson. The younger grand children enjoyed the experience as well. All in all it was a wonderful time for everyone. We had a beautiful day in Yosemite on Friday- Thanks again for everything!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It is very clean, secluded, and it has a great view to be enjoyed from the hot tub. Kirsty (the owner) is very accommodating and friendly. We had a great time, and look forward to staying here again. Highly recommended.

When can I move in?

  • 5 of 5

I have never enjoyed a vacation rental so much as I did this one. The Vineyard House was a Sierra foothill fantasy for my group.

We were two families: one couple, and another couple with a six year old boy. Our plan was to cook all our own meals, and this was a great place for that. The open kitchen/dining area was a wonderful space, made ever-so-cozy by a charming, small, gas furnace. Honestly, even though there is a fireplace in the living room, we never lit it, because we were completely satisfied by the warmth and ambience this little furnace provided. The six year old loved to get up in the morning and sit in the floor in front of it, staring into the gas logs and dancing flames. He also loved the tree swing, the huge yard, the rocks to climb on, the playmat rug, and that hot tub!

I've always wanted to sit under a star-lit, winter sky in a hot tub. This was bliss. Although we were there the last week of December, we had warm, sunny days of mostly upper 60s, and cool, clear nights in the 30s and 40s. Ambience was a theme here, and walking under the archway lit with little white lights made the trip out to the night time hot tub feel more like some fantastic, great escape.

Ambience truly was everywhere, and we all enjoyed the little treasures that met our eyes. I loved sipping my coffee on the back patio, just taking in the eclectic decorations all around. Morning hot tubs are fun, too!

We took a day trip to Yosemite, which was so easy and convenient from this location. We also enjoyed a visit into the town of Mariposa, but we were primarily there to enjoy one another, the house, and its surroundings.

If you're interested in a beautiful, cozy spot, with lots of windows to bring the out-of-doors in, and lots of doors to get you out into it, this house is a treat. We are usually in a truck camper somewhere in the woods, so this felt like pure luxury to us. We appreciated the easy-to-spot instructions/information located around the house, which helped to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

To the hosts: Thank you for thinking of all the details, and creating such a warm and welcoming space. I confess, I spent some time imagining what it would be like to actually live there. Let me know when I can move in!

Very well maintained with the utmost attention to detail. Spacious open plan for the kitchen, dining and living room makes the house feel larger. Well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a clean, modern hot tub. Great views, quiet and isolated.

Beautiful & relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We booked Vineyard View at quite short notice, having decided to alter our itinerary to take in Yosemite. Vineyard View has a great location on Triangle Road, around 6 miles from Marioposa, 15 miles from Oakhurst and 30 miles from El Portal and the easiest entrance to Yosemite.

We made the 40 minute journey to Yosemite twice, it's an easy and beautiful drive and Yosemite and the Merced Valley is jaw-dropping.

Kirsty and Jerry have done a great job with Vineyard View, blending a cottage feel & furniture with 21st century demands. The kitchen is very well arranged and everything you need, including washing powder, waste bags etc, is provided.

The gardens are extensive and attractive but it is the views west that are inspiring. In view down the valley is the Butterfly Creek vineyard, owned and run by the gregarious and slightly eccentric Bob Gerken and family. We spent a very happy hour or more listening to his entertaining tales and enjoying his wines, some of which made it back home to London. A must see.

All in all a great vacation spot and we will be sure to return one day
