In the heart of the French Broad River Gorge, Myra's Cottage is tucked in a mountain cove we call Owl Holler and borders Pisgah National Forest. Located near historic Stackhouse and just a mile above a main whitewater access point for the French Broad River, Myra’s Cottage offers serene comfort for retreat, recreation and renewal. Resting in a meadow surrounded by forested ridges and two creeks, the cottage provides privacy in a beautiful mountain setting. The cottage has access to many trails that are located on the surrounding 100 acre property including a mile hike to the knoll for exceptional views of Bluff Mountain.
The modern cottage includes two bedrooms (queen & double), fully equipped kitchen, dining nook, living room with sleeper sofa, bathroom with tub/shower, carport and a large screened porch that overlooks Barney’s Branch. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, ceiling fans, wood stove, window air conditioner, central heat, wireless internet, TV with DVD/VHS player and video library, and all necessary linens ensure convenience and comfort. The Ping Pong table on the porch challenges you to relive your summer camp days or offers an opportunity to learn a new sport.
Myra’s Cottage is located strategically for quick access to all major attractions. 31 miles (40-45 minutes) from Asheville, 10 miles from Marshall, 8 miles from Hot Springs, 4 miles from Appalachian Trail, 1 mile from French Broad River. About Danny Wyatt
The back to the land movement was the genesis of Myra’s Cottage. Ginny and Danny bought Owl Holler from Gilbert and Nita Stackhouse in 1978. Gilbert was the grandson of Amos Stackhouse who moved to Madison County after visiting Warm Springs (now Hot Springs) and falling in love with the mountains. Aiming to live simply, we embraced the mountain culture that honors the land. We learned to fix it, make do, or do without. We harvested Hemlock trees from our land and built our house. We planted trees and birthed a son. We developed organic, sustainable gardens. We continue to garden extensively and enjoy sharing vegetables, berries & flowers with our guests.

Why Danny Wyatt chose Marshall
Danny’s mother, Myra, joined us in 1986. She had become a Canadian after a three day romance with Louis Hildebrandt, her second marriage, and they lived near Calgary until his unexpected death. Danny built her a house down the holler where she lived until 2009. Myra was an amazing woman and we honor her memory by sharing her cottage with you.
What makes this Cottage unique
Wonderful solitude in the midst of Mother Nature. Secluded yet within 12 minutes of Hot Springs or Marshall. Great one mile hikes to either the French Broad River or the knoll with spectacular views of Bluff Mountain and the Spring Creek watershed.

Great cottage and property, even better hosts/owners.
Beautiful location! Beautiful property! Perfect cottage! And extremely helpful property owner!
I have rented a lot of cabins and cottages in my many years but I have never rented one as well appointed as Myra's Cottage. Everything you need is there including a welcome basket of fruit and chocolate. The extensive property is beautiful - and be sure and take the short hike to the beautiful waterfalls. My daughter and I had a great time playing ping pong on the screened porch. The owner couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, providing maps of a variety of beautiful walks and hikes. You can't go wrong with this cottage!

We LOVE this quiet, beautiful, private, romantic home away from home.
We're already looking forward to going back to Myra's Cottage for the 3rd time. If you're searching for tranquility, look no further. Hikes, a waterfall, gorgeous scenery, wood stove with plenty of wood, and the best part, no cars, no disturbances! The cottage is perfectly clean and has everything one would need for a weekend stay. Listening to the flowing creek while relaxing on the screened in porch is a favorite!
Amazingly charming place, perfect for paddlers
Danny was a good and gracious host, and his cabin (cottage) is exquisitely furnished and in a very beautiful and convenient location! It is especially convenient if you want to paddle the French Broad river as it is on the take-out road (Stackhouse)! We kayaked the river on a chilly fall day and enjoyed the hot showers and comfortable beds at this property afterward. The leaves around were beautiful! Highly recommend, we will definitely be back.
Peaceful Mountain Getaway
My husband and I had such an amazing stay at the cottage. The home had all of the basics that were needed for our visit. The cottage was set in the middle of the woods in such a peaceful, beautiful setting. There were deer in the yard at night. The sound of the creek that ran next to the home was so peaceful. We loved sitting on the porch for breakfast just so we could listen to the sound of the water. It truly is an amazing place to stay at if you are trying to get away from everything and just relax. We enjoyed the Hot Springs Spa, which was only a 10 minute drive away. The owners live right up the driveway and called as soon as we got there to see if we needed anything.
Excellent place to unplug. Kids enjoyed the stream on the property. Enjoyed fire pit. Covered deck is an excellent place to meditate. The owner was extremely helpful and accommodating. Our expectations were exceeded & we will definitely book again. The home was stocked with everything we needed.
Near historic Marshall, where you can explore the local shops downtown, including a coffee shop, artist studios, and local craft shops. Also near the town of Hot Springs, which was voted the "Best Mountain Town" in 2013 by Outdoor Magazine. Hot Springs has multiple restaurants, outdoor outfitters, numerous festivals, and a spa.
