About the host

Hosted by Danny Wyatt

Host profile image
The back to the land movement was the genesis of Myra’s Cottage. Ginny and Danny bought Owl Holler from Gilbert and Nita Stackhouse in 1978. Gilbert was the grandson of Amos Stackhouse who moved to Madison County after visiting Warm Springs (now Hot Springs) and falling in love with the mountains. Aiming to live simply, we embraced the mountain culture that honors the land. We learned to fix it, make do, or do without. We harvested Hemlock trees from our land and built our house. We planted trees and birthed a son. We developed organic, sustainable gardens. We continue to garden extensively and enjoy sharing vegetables, berries & flowers with our guests.

Why they chose this property

Danny’s mother, Myra, joined us in 1986. She had become a Canadian after a three day romance with Louis Hildebrandt, her second marriage, and they lived near Calgary until his unexpected death. Danny built her a house down the holler where she lived until 2009. Myra was an amazing woman and we honor her memory by sharing her cottage with you.

What makes this property unique

Wonderful solitude in the midst of Mother Nature. Secluded yet within 12 minutes of Hot Springs or Marshall. Scenic 1/4 mile walk to the waterfall on the property and a one mile hike to the French Broad River.
