'Cottage in the Forest'

This beautiful little cottage is tucked into a small forest, with a view of the Hanalei Mountains. Where you will awaken each morning to the symphony of sounds and sights of a peaceful rural mountain setting.

Our three and a half Acre Property is located at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Enjoy the endlessly fascinating interaction and play of the resident birds and animals. Chickens, Ducks, Peacocks, Goats, Dogs, Cats and Horses, all co-exist on our property and provide hours of entertainment.

All this is only a five minute drive to beautiful Kalihiwai Bay, where Kalihiwai River enters the ocean. It is our favorite beach, great for boogie boarding and surfing. Also a five minute drive takes you to Anini Beach, a very long beach with a double reef, where you can spend your days: Wind Surfing, Kayaking, Sailing or just enjoying the Ocean environment. Anini also has a large Beach Park.

You will be only 15 minutes from the world famous Hanalei Bay and the Princeville Resort, where you will find the 27 hole Makai Golf Course, and the Princeville Shopping Center. There are two Horse Riding Stables very near by, and the North Shore boasts many hiking trails.

The accommodations are light, airy and beautifully furnished. The claw foot tub in the bathroom is especially charming and looks out a corner picture window on to a private garden.

We love it here and love sharing the unique charm and quiet country atmosphere. Best of all, we are only minutes from some of the best beaches in the world.

Private & Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Susan has done a great job making sure this place has everything you will need for an easy stay. The cottage sits on a property shared with a house and guest house, but the walls of tropical growth obscure everything else on the property from view. It was great to know that if we needed anything—tips about the area, help with cottage questions, etc., we just had to make a call or walk next door. Don't like to wake to the cacophony of island fowl (roosters@4am)? The cottage has complimentary earplugs. Clothes get a little wrinkly in your suitcase? No worries, a dryer, the humidity or the iron/ironing board will take care of it. All included. Fast WiFi was a surprise for how remote the cottage is. We tried to unplug on our trip as much as we could, but it sure came in handy in a pinch since cell service was iffy. Lots of great beaches within minutes. Beach towels, beach chairs, snorkel equipment all on tap. The price was fair and it was all ours. Total privacy, from the gated drive to the outdoor shower. The kitchen is decked out if you don't want to eat out for every meal. And I HAVE to mention the lighting. Wow. Every light and fan is fully dimmable & adjustable. You can set the cottage up for whatever mood strikes you. We loved it so much, we took some notes for when we build our own cottage some day.

Susan's cottage is exactly as described. It is a quant, quiet location that provides privacy and comfort for guests. The unit was clean and nicely decorated during our visit and we would happily stay here again. Mahalo, Andrew & Jessica

Awesome Experience at the Cottage in the Jungle!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great experience at Susan's "cottage in the jungle" for our honeymoon. Its location is quite convenient for North Shore activity (being close to Princeville and not too far from Hanalei).

The cottage itself is very well decorated and gives an authentic Hawaiian experience. The grounds were very nice with all the different animals about (Milk the goat, peacocks, dogs, chickens, tropical birds, geckos, etc). The cottage doesn't have A/C which was totally fine because there are plenty of fans provided and it never got very hot inside with the breeze rolling through. The bed is very comfortable and we slept great every night! The outdoor shower was cool too! There is also snorkeling gear and 2 boogie boards we were able to take advantage of and use.

Susan was very accommodating on our last day when we were traveling home and helped us out in a big way. She made us feel very welcome and was there to answer any questions we had. Overall I would recommend staying at her property on the North Shore!

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Rented this property for a week and loved every minute of it. The peaceful, quiet nights gazing at millions of stars. Waking to the sounds of nature and the beautiful flowers and birds that live around the cottage. The time spent feeding the chickens and hanging out with Milk the goat and the friendly neighborhood cats are quite charming also. Close to several nice beaches and many good restaurants on the north shore. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Truly magical

  • 5 of 5

Hospitable, beautiful, easy, fun, magical. This place is a gem. It made our vacation so special. We stayed at a resort for three days and then here for three days and staying here is just such a quiet, fun experience.

Generally, it has everything you want in a house rental, plus everything you might've forgotten. It is closely located next to different fun areas to visit: our favorites, Princeville and Hanalei Bay. There are so many different animals at the cottage- peacocks, horses, dogs, a goat, chickens. The outdoor shower and indoor bathtub are really fun. Even the drive on the street to the property is beautiful. They provide everything we found ourselves needing- coolers, cooking appliances, towels. The flowers and plant life surround the cottage, creating privacy.

A few concerns I had going in- mosquitos and no air conditioning. I am sensitive when it comes to both and I ended up with two mosquito bites the entire time on the property. The lack of air conditioning wasn't an issue at all. Don't let either of these stop you from visiting.

Can't wait to return to this well-run and special spot. <3
