We had a wonderful 3 weeks on the mountain top as we called it. We especially enjoyed the outdoor spaces. We had adult guests and 4 grandchildren...all enjoyed the farm. The adults really enjoyed the eggs, the fresh vegetables and the delicious chicken grown there. They give a new name to free range. The children enjoyed picking blueberries, fishing, boating, and swimming in the pond. There are several nice places to picnic. A lovely retreat. We are all planning to return. Thanks Janet and Jeff for a special vacation.

Owner response: We liked how you allowed time ahead of the family mass to get settled in and have time to enjoy the relaxation yourself first. Your grandkids really liked exploring the farm. Thanks for feeding the cows apples which they love!
A year later and still raving about this place!
A year later and still raving about this place!
A secluded location with a view, this house was a home away from home in which a family of five plus two friends could stay comfortably. We loved seeing and feeding the free range chickens. The one time the grill broke, Janet brought us a new grill within an hour! One morning we looked out the window and saw that the flag was up on the mailbox and there were a dozen fresh eggs from the chickens (via Janet). This was a peaceful and lovely setting, with lots of things to see and walks to take without even leaving the property.

Fabulous Farm Experience
Fabulous Farm Experience
Our stay at Cloud 9 was almost perfect- and the almost was the imperfect weather (rain)- Cloud 9 itself is 100% perfection. Janet is a marvelous hostess and staying here is like being in you own comfortable home. She has thought of everything! This was the best stocked house that we have ever rented. We enjoyed seeing a working farm and learning about all that goes on. Asheville and the surrounding towns are wonderful - beautiful art, fabulous crafts, delicious food (ask Janet for her recommendations) and of course the mountains that one wakes up to every morning, and the hot tub and stars at night. Can’t wait to return.

Owner response: You told me your favorite restaurants turned out to be Rezazs (Mediterranean) and Corner Kitchen (there is always a line) in Biltmore Village. Chorizo (Latin flair, specialty drinks from Spain and Argentina). What I like about your choices is that all these chefs use local sources whenever possible and very fresh ingredients. There is a new restaurant to be opened soon on Pack Square that promises to be outstanding. Come back and check it out!
A Wonderful, Relaxing Retreat
A Wonderful, Relaxing Retreat
My husband and I and our 19 month old son spent a long weekend at Cloud Nine Farm over Easter and we could not have had a more wonderful, relaxing weekend. We had plans to do several things in Asheville, but after arriving on the farm, we decided there was no reason to leave and spent almost our entire trip exploring the property and enjoying the scenery. My son loved feeding the chickens and the fish and is still talking about the cows and the tractors. Janet was so gracious and welcoming and so good to include us in the farm activities. We will definitely be back and just appreciate the warm hospitality.

Owner response: Families and the farm go together. The reason for this farm today stems from the retirement dream of the Peterson patriarch; live in the country, not far from a city with stewardship of the land to give your life purpose ...and call the place "Cloud 9."
We'll come back!
We'll come back!
Our family (boy, age 7 and girl, age 9) came here on Spring Break. We loved everything about the house, the farm, and the opportunities we had to do diverse and fun things. Janet was great with the kids letting them help with farm chores -- and they loved them! The house has all the creature comforts but in a beautiful setting that does inspire relaxation. We took in some awesome sites around Asheville -- all were within 15-20 minutes driving distance (read - nothing is far!). We'll take 200 acres any day over a cramped downtown hotel room.

Owner response: Thanks for getting right in the groove of farm life by saving your food scraps, coffee grounds and melon rinds for the chickens. It sure made the "Henny Pennys' happy. Did your son make it home with his pockets full of mica-speckled rocks? Also, your idea to take the kids rock climbing at Chimney Rock for $20 was a great idea for the birthday treat.
A bit of heaven

Upon arrival I was extremely impressed with the fact that the web-site listing description and photos were more accurate and up to date than any other place that we have ever stayed, anywhere. The house was very comfortable and lacked nothing. Everything that we could possibly have needed was provided for us. The farm fresh eggs every morning were a real treat and the blissful peace and quiet was well received. Our large German Shepherd joined us for the stay and there was plenty of room for him to play both inside and out. Janet, the property owner, was the perfect host; kind, considerate and most helpful with directing us to local attractions. We felt like part of her family by the time we had to depart. Being a retired military officer myself, I was very appreciative of the departing gift basket of eggs, honey and preserves which Janet presents to military retirees. She also offers a much welcomed discount to active duty members. Having come from a military family herself, she graciously shows her gratitude for those serving or having served this country. She's a very special person. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock and some beautiful water falls that Janet told us about. There is plenty to do and see in the area, or you can just relax on the farm, enjoy the animals, watch the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, or just sit back and melt into the fantastic mountain views. There truly is something for everyone, here and I highly recommend it to one and all. One stay and I'm sure that you will return just as we shall. "A little bit of heaven and a whole lot of heart".

Owner response: Fozzie, dog, was well behaved even letting the chickens free range on their 2 hour release from the pen. Hey, we love our military. Next time you come, we have some family WWII stories and we'd like to hear your 'Nam ones you are willing to share. You are quite welcome.
Pre-Chrsitams Cloud Nine Vacation
Pre-Chrsitams Cloud Nine Vacation
I stayed at Cloud Nine with my parents, my sister and my 6 year old daughter right before Christmas in 2012. We enjoyed the farm as much as we enjoyed our visit to the Biltmore house and Asheville. Janet made sure my family and me were delighted delighted with everything and we were. Our three days and three nights were not enough. I wish we could have stayed longer. We loved the hot tub and thank you for letting my daughter feed the cows and chickens. See you next year!

I took my fiancee there for his 50th birthday. It was perfect!! We did absolutly nothing and enjoyed every minute of it. What a beautiful way to enjoy the nature. The peace and quiet was just what we had hoped for. We had farm fresh eggs and what a delightful way to start the day :). I can't thank her enough for her kindness and offering up such a beautiful place. We will be back and I am looking forward to doing NOTHING again.....

A farm/retreat for all!!
I can not gush over Cloud 9 enough! We stayed almost a month, during a relocation to the area, and could not be more appreciative. Every amenity was available; the location is tranquil, yet convenient; the house is comfortable and well appointed; and Janet and Jeff couldn't be more wonderful. The walking trails were enjoyable and peaceful, with lots to sniff for our canine family member. Wild turkeys make surprise appearances every few days and the white squirrel is a special treat to see. And of course the chickens and cows are fun to feed and visit. Then there are the sunsets and night skies.... heavenly indeed. The stars twinkle in the trees. The sky is brilliantly painted every evening, with a front row view on the decks. Beauty beyond words. Regardless of age or interest, there is something to enjoy. My elderly mother was able to get around easily since the house is one level with access to the fantastic deck. We will use Cloud 9 for any large groups, or a quiet get-a-way - since they have something for either large or intimate gatherings. Check it out for yourself, it could not have been more perfect for our family.

Owner response: You saw the elusive white squirrel? He's been the ghost squirrel...now you see him...now you don't! I'm offering a reward to the first renter who snags a photo. Free marshmallows for your family at the bon fire on Cloud 9.
We were looking for relaxation with views and boy did we get it. There is a beautiful view from every room. It was quiet and dark at night and sunny everywhere in the day. The house stays naturally warm in the winter because of its wisely chosen southern exposure. It was also very easy and quick to get to Asheville and Black Mountain. We never felt like it was a burden to run to town. The house is neat as a pin and although the owner lives in the house next door, and is a friendly outgoing woman , our privacy was totally respected. There is a GREAT local organic style restaurant just down the street that compares with some of the better farm to table restaurants in Asheville. This property has a lot to offer.

Owner response: I know the restaurant you are talking about. It is called "The Local Joint" which, when you say it in a sentence is kind of like the "Who's on First" Abbott and Costello routine...What restaurant do you recommend for local, eclectic food?...the local joint...I know but what is the name? ...the local joint...Yeah, we'll go there but how will we find it?...the local joint. No really, The Local Joint is run by a young family, Chris and Stephanie, who really care about the community and who even use our Cloud 9 eggs when we have surplus. You can find them at 1185 B Charlotte Hwy, Fairview, North Carolina.

About the owner: Janet here, your hostess, and conservation farmer/manager/owner (with lots of help)of one little valley of Fairview, North Carolina. Our sing along slogan is 'Beds, Berries, Trees, Beef and Honey Bees and don't forget the chickens' which says it all about what you can find on Cloud 9 Farm. These are my many interests and passions which I invite you to share with me as you step back in time for a visit to a simpler way of life on Cloud 9 Farm.
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
I DIDN'T buy this property, it is my family home to share with you. I refurbished the mountain top Cloud 9 Relaxation Home for families up to 6 and built Heavenly Hideaway, a cozy cabin, for couples, too. Both have hot tubs on an open deck under the stars. Just 8 miles from I-40, you can be at the Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and the waterfalls of Dupont State Forest in minutes. Quiet and private.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Asheville is just 15 minutes away for great day excursions, especially to the Biltmore Estate, but vacation renters find that they never really have to leave the farm because there is enough to do right here; hiking, enjoying the valley pond area, picking blueberries in July,or just sitting on the huge deck (or in the hot-tub) over-looking the mountains and relaxing. The layout of Cloud 9 is very outside-friendly with sliding glass doors in every room to open with natural light and get that fresh mountain air. Views, views, views! Come see for yourself!
