Cloud 9- Mountain Views-Private Estate, Hot Tub, Specials Now
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Asheville
I DIDN'T buy this property, it is my family home to share with you. I refurbished the mountain top Cloud 9 Relaxation Home for groups up to 6-8 and built Heavenly Hideaway, a cozy cabin, for couples, too. Both have hot tubs on an open deck under the stars. Just 8 miles from I-40, you can be at the Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and the waterfalls of Dupont State Forest in minutes. Quiet and private.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Asheville is just 15 minutes away for great day excursions, especially to the Biltmore Estate, but vacation renters find that they never really have to leave the farm because there is enough to do right here; hiking, enjoying the valley pond area, picking blueberries in July,or just sitting on the huge deck (or in the hot-tub)over-looking the mountains and relaxing. The layout of Cloud 9 is very outside friendly with sliding glass doors in every room to open with natural light and get that fresh mountain air. Views, views, views! Come see for yourself!
2 acres of Blueberries in June, July and the first part of August. Renters pick for free!
Quick and easy stop if you want to "cocoon" at Cloud 9 Farm.
Located in the valley farm 1/2 miles away, not close to the house at all, don't worry. Purchase honey in season from Cloud 9 's pollination helpers.
5 miles away but on your way back from Asheville. Great wine selection, too. CVS Drugstore is next to it.
Just 11 miles away, the Biltmore Estate is an unbelieveable private "castle" estate...a must-see.
Dress up and go to see this historic 1911 Inn/ 4 star resort, sit on the sunset veranda for a meal or grab a rocking chair in front of the huge fireplace with your favorite drink. Act like you own the
My favorite micro-brewery pub and movie place. Shiva IPA beer rocks!
A psychodelic restaurant. Pretend you're back in the 70s and order a delish Calzone or pizza surrounded by brightly painted polka-dotted mushrooms.
Southern food...and talk about a hoppin' place with live music on a Saturday Night...whoooooeeee!
go to romanticasheville.com to see a video of this unique amateur event. You can bring your percussion instrument to join in, or dance, or just watch the freaky people like I do!
Micro brewing at it's best. Have you tried the Highland Gaelic Ales made here?
In the quaint Biltmore village with lots of unique gift shops to spend the day browsing. New Morning Gallery and Corner Kitchen are my favorites. Try the creamed grits!
Great movie showing all the cool places on the Blue Ridge Parkway so you can decide where to go. Huge computer graphic on the wall lets you travel the whole length of the Parkway.
Mountain crafts and demonstrations. It's my favorite place to take out-of-towners.
An elevator right through the verical shaft of rock leads you through the gift shop, of course, the a short walk up to the top of the chimney, stacked rocks with a flag pole. Still a little scary even
Book the lake tour with dinner on the boat. Or go to the beach on the lake. Better yet, have your own private beach at Perterson Pond right on Cloud 9 Farm.
Full of unique, crafty shops (knitters: the yarn shop is superb) and eclectic eating cubby holes. a great place to be on a rainy day because it's an historic 1920 indoor shopping "mall" building compl

Family Holiday Gathering

Cloud 9 was the perfect getaway location for our family gathering at Christmas time. We came from 3 states so it was very convenient for all of us, as well as being just a short distance to Asheville and all it has to offer. The charming 1960's home was comfortable and roomy, with beautiful views of the distant mountains. The surrounding farm provides a peaceful retreat, and if we had had more time it would have been a delight to explore. Janet, the owner, had decorated the house for the holiday so it was especially cheerful. Janet shared her story of the farm, and her pride of place and the dedicated efforts on the farm are reflected everywhere. We enjoyed the eggs from her colorful chickens (the girls) and in turn shared some of our kitchen scraps with them. We spent time in Asheville, touring the Biltmore House by candlelight,(a real treat!), and eating at various terrific restaurants. Also, a trip to the Craft Center just north on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a given whenever we are in the area. Cloud 9 is not far from many attractions that we hope to see on a future trip. I highly recommend the aptly named Cloud 9 for its home-like peace and amenities.
Owner response:We are glad you enjoyed the million dollar view from Cloud 9 along with the winter passive solar feature.(This home was written up in the newspaper for being ahead of it's time in the 1970s with it's solar amenities...SW facing, large floor to ceiling windows to capture the heat and light for the winter weather.) Hey, thanks for being ecologically minded by saving your food scraps for the chickens and recycling. When you are on a farm...it's easy to be "green."

Four adults and two dogs just shared an unforgetable memory of our lifetime. If possible we definitely would have stayed longer. Janet is the hostess at Cloud Nine but she could just as easily be the hostess of Biltmore itself. We would recommend a stay to anyone and truly believe you will leave with a smile on your face. Owner response:Wise words from Unknown sources seems to fit your feelings on Cloud 9: "Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have." and "The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others so." Thanks for your kind words!

My wife and I recently enjoyed our honeymoon at Cloud 9 on the way home from our destination wedding. What a great choice we made to stay here. From the moment we arrived to Janets property we saw how well kept and naturally decorated everything was. The cabin was secluded and comfortable. We have never been to a rental that was so ready to be lived in. Janet provided all the dishes and cookware we needed with many non-perishable items and papergoods. The house has every amenity you need, including huge flat screen tv with premium cable. The trails on the property were enjoyable, and we are still impressed with how well Janet maintains this relaxation haven. We will be back by ourselves and to bring the rest of the family. So dont think twice, Reserve this rental while you can. Thanks for everything Janet and it truelly was a pleasure meeting you. Dan and Sarah
Owner response:It's always such fun to meet happy, enthusiastic people such as you. I'm glad you felt Cloud 9 Relaxation Home, our 3 bedroom house, was a "cabin" because that means you thought it was cozy. We do have a Heavenly Hideaway Cabin # 118964 but since it was unavailable when you wanted it, Cloud 9 offers that feeling of being on top of the world, yet the quiet of hearing the falling leaves hit the ground (no highway noise)and having the outdoors at your toe tips. Note to readers: Dan and Sarah requested a honey tasting of the varietals NC offers from Beekeeper Janet. It's always a lot of fun when your tastebuds squeal in ecstasy with first-time tasting of the premier honey of the Appalachian Mountains...Sourwood and the buttery flavor of Tulip Poplar honey.

This was a perfect place for us to stay with out 15, 13, and 9 year olds and 2 dogs. The 9 yo had a great time feeding chickens and cows, the 13 yo loved the big flat screen TV and WiFi, and the dogs had a blast swimmimg in the fishing pond and playing in the woods on the hike to Buzzard's Roost. The house was clean, well kept, and every time I needed something, it was there. It was also easy driving to Asheville, restaurants, and the movie theater. Thanks for a great, happy family weekend.
Owner response:The truth is, getting the kids outside, away from texting or gaming, is indeed a family miracle! Glad Cloud 9 could help.

We just enjoyed our second stay at Cloud 9. As a couple with two small dogs, the home was more space than we needed, but the view of the mountains and proximity to the fire pit (for us) and the yard area and view of the chickens (for the dogs) were big pluses. Not only is the farm a beautiful and expansive place to just hang out, the people and activities on the farm are as much of a draw. We enjoyed our participation in beekeeping, feeding the chickens and the fish, and having our own private (and rather strenuous!) hiking trail right on the property. Everything is well-kept, and Janet and Jeff could not be friendlier. This will continue to be our "go to" place in North Carolina!
Owner response:Dog children are quite welcome! Thanks for being so interested in my honey bee apiary. Besides looking the view from Cloud 9 hill and picking blueberries in July, observing the honey bees in their partitioned part of the cow pasture is my favorite place to be. This is my favorite quote from Shakespeare's Henry V: "For so work the honey-bees, Creatures that by a rule in nature teach The act of order to a peopled kingdom."

We just got home from an amazing stay at Cloud 9! It was 2 families each with one small child. The house is so clean, had plenty of room, and had everything you needed to fully use the kitchen. Janet is the kind of host that thinks of everything and makes such an effort to ensure the best visit possible. I have a crawling baby and she was able to go all over because it was clean and there was very little that she could get into. Janet also had a crib and highchair we put to use. The outside is even more wonderful! The deck is relaxing with a view that goes for miles! They have so many activities right on the property...feeding the chickens, collecting the eggs, feeding the cows, playing by the pond, feeding the fish, and miles of trails to hike. Janet includes a detailed book including maps about the area and local attractions. As I said, Janet has thought of everything! She loves her home and we are so thankful that we got a chance to enjoy it with her! We have found the perfect place for our vacations!
Owner response:It's always fun to see "discovery" on the face of a child for all things outdoors and watch the faces of the enthusiastic parents watching them! I'd be pleased to have you return.

My husband and I and our favorite friends had a wonderful vacation in Asheville. The house and property were beautiful. We also had great weather. The house is in a great location - secluded but yet near to Asheville. It was nice to have an entire house to ourselves. We could cook, watch TV, enjoy the hot tub, and our favorite - sitting on the deck and enjoying the views while sipping wine with our friends. The house is clean and spacious enough for a large group.

My husband and I have been vacationing in the Asheville area for over 15 years. This is the first time that a rental property has had everything on our wish list! Cloud 9 is perfection. We have two dogs that always travel with us and we could not have been happier with Janet's stunning property. How lucky for us that she decided to take her childhood home and open it to the public giving us an opportunity to enjoy it too. Our only regret is that we had just a week at Cloud 9. Not only is Cloud 9 the VERY BEST place we have ever rented, Janet herself adds to the whole experience, from the freshest eggs to the treasures from her garden, she makes Cloud 9 a truely unforgetable place. We will be back, often. Dianne,Jeff, Lola and Maddie Johnson
Owner response:Oh, so you liked the edible flowers I brought from the garden to decorate your salads? I've never had guests bring their own vacuum cleaner before and wipe the dog nose prints off the sliding glass window before leaving! Thanks for leaving the home in good shape.

What a great place to get together with friends. Clean comfortable house, deck with a view, we got to watch an amazing light show from the lightning in a thunder storm over the top of the mountains miles and miles away. Ashville is a fun city to tour, walk the streets, good food and we spent a full day at Biltmore (well worth it). The owners were very attentive, we learned a lot about their farming activities and worked along with them on some (our choice). Definately recommend this to all.
Owner response:This was your second visit to Cloud 9 bringing a different set of friends each time. Yes, 3 couples do make a fun get together especially with late night card games on the deck under the LED lined canopy. And, you made our chores light and fun by pitching in. Ahhhh, fresh air, sunshine, animals and farm life!

Our family had a great time at Cloud 9. We came as a family of 4 with 2 dogs and 2 grandparents. Janet was so helpful and friendly throughout our visit. Every day the kids got to feed the chickens and collect eggs. We loved feeding the cows...even got to help move them to a new pasture! My kids are still asking about Miss Janet and when they can see her again. Lots of great day trip adventures in the area. We went to Santaland, river rafting, Lake Lure, Biltmore Estate and Asheville throughout the week. Definitely recommend this for a new and different family vacation.
Owner response:You sure did a lot...so that's why you booked 10 days instead of a week! I witnessed a lot of family bonding time with digging for worms in the compost, fishing in the pond, wrangling the cows down the road as we moved them to the next pasture from the safety of your slowly moving SUV, feeding the chickens your table scraps and the family raft trip that you talked about for days after. Thanks for being so friendly to us as well.
