This is a fabulous home perfectly suited if you're looking to escape to the hidden coastal gem of Cardiff by the Sea. With breathtaking OCEAN VIEWS, an amazing outdoor space for entertaining complete with gas BBQ island, outdoor fireplace and seating, and luxurious Jaccuzzi hot tub this home is perfect for you.
This home has new LG washer & dryer in the garage. The garage has been divided so that space for 1 car has been blocked to guests but You will have access to the washer/dryer regardless of length of stay.
Before I go further about the home's description, I wanted to address one of the most repeated questions that most out of towners seem to ask -- 'Are you walking distance to the beach?'
Here's what I tell folks from out of the area inquiring about walking to the beach... Simply, 'dont.' And here's why: In addition to Cardiff being somewhat of a charming coastal town, it is on a hill. Hills, are generally easy to walk down, but the homes that are 'walking distance to the beach' are a steep walk back up.
More importantly (and in my opin.) is that there's 3 'danger' issues w/ walking --
1) you have to cross over railroad tracks (along the pacific coast highway) so with pets or children or grandma/grandpa, it might be a bit leery/worrisome.
2) More than that, the Pacific Coast Hwy is a fast paced highway where cars can travel 40-50mph - that too can be troubling for a group made up of little people, furry people and older people.
3) And finally, regardless of where you stay, lugging coolers and blankets and towels and umbrellas, etc is a hassle especially in the warm summer months.
Thus, better to drive and park in a dedicated lot and save the hassle of the above.
All that being said, this home is just 1 mile from beach. It's literally a right turn, a stop sign and 2 stop lights down the hill.
The other nuance to being 'closer' to the beach is the homes are 'stacked' - where there's a) no yard and b) your neighbors home is literally less than 4-6' away from yours. It can feel a bit claustrophobic. The trade off however, is generally white water ocean views. In addition, the homes close to the beach are on streets that are more narrow (no true sidewalk) and thus at night walking can be dangerous as many are very poorly lit, in addition to being on a steep grade. Compare w/ the neighborhood where this home is located, the streets are well lit, have dedicated sidewalks on both sides and are 'flat'.
Back to the description. This home features an authentic Spanish stucco exterior (Santa Barbara finish) and Mediterranean tiled roof and all of the contemporary and modern furnishings inside for you to help you 'get away from it all'. In short, this home is fully loaded.
With magnificent views of the Pacific from the master bedroom, you are less than a mile away from the best beaches San Diego has to offer ... Cardiff Reef, Georges, Swamis and Pipes (to name just a few)...
This home has a full kitchen with all the amenities, granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher) gas cook top, oven and even a stainless steel pot filler. With recessed lighting and hardwood floors throughout, upgraded bathrooms, classic furniture and collectors pieces, in addition to one of the best backyards for entertaining in the entire area this home is complete from inside out.
While the inside of the home is wonderfully appointed, the backyard is this property's featured attraction according to past guests. As mentioned above, couch and lounge chair seating, dedicated teak outdoor dining table, natural gas fireplace, jacuzzi (maintained professionally on a weekly basis) and a natural gas bbq island make the backyard a truly exception extension of this home. A large modern umbrella provides shade during warm sunny days, and a trellis offers the same above the dining area. Two chaise lounge chairs are shaded by the overhang of the master bedroom deck, but there's plenty of room to move them into direct sunlight.
From the master suite enjoy sunset and ocean views. About the owner: This home's owner has lived in the San Diego area for more than 13 years, having attended graduate school in downtown SD. Having moved to Cardiff in 2003 where he first rented a beach bungalow and knew then he'd never leave. In his personal time he enjoys surfing local beaches and getting as much exercise outdoors as possible. He also was a recent finalist on the Emmy award winning show The Amazing Race (season 21) and continues world adventures in his free time.
Why the Owner Chose Cardiff by the Sea: As you will find the beach enclave of Cardiff is unlike most other towns you will come across. A mix of high end homes with that laid back beach feel is the best way to describe the ambiance.
